A U.S. delegation headed by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton attended the funeral of former Czech President Vaclav Havel at Prague’s St. Vitus Cathedral today. The delegation included former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright who served in Clinton’s cabinet at the time Havel, the leader of the “Velvet Revolution” that brought down communist rule in Czechoslovakia, was president. It appears, although I cannot be certain, that Secretary Clinton was wearing a velvet coat. It has been noted in these pages over the years that Mme. Secretary uses her wardrobe as part of her diplomacy much the way her predecessor, Secretary Albright used brooches.

The pictures are great.
lovely. prague in mourning.
hill has her headband back!
And quite a headband it is! Very unusual!
It almost looks like a tiara.
Yes!
Yeah, unusual is the word. What was that thing on her head? It looked to be made out of metal.
Havel had it made for her. A little further downthread Hillary Lover has an excerpt that tells the story of the headband.
i don’t think its supposed to be a traditional headband. it might be one of those unusual veil type things (don’t know the word for it) that someone wears in mourning at a funeral. i may be wrong though
Like a mantilla? Jackie wore those to mass sometimes. Small ones. She wore a full-sized traditional one at JFK’s funeral.
I just watched news on Czech tv channel. Hillary said the headband was a gift from president Havel. He designed it and she received it during one of her visits in Prague.
Oh wow!!!! What a great story! Thank you for sharing this. The funeral was not covered on our evening news – not by the channel that employs Chelsea Clinton. *fuming*
…
Recently widowed, Havel invited Madeleine and me to his private home for dinner, rather than dining at the official presidential quarters in the Prague Castle. When my car pulled up, he was waiting on the sidewalk with a bouquet of flowers and a small gift, a sculpted headband made out of aluminum by one of his artist friends.

Thank you for the explanation.
she looks great. guess she couldn’t flirt with David Cameron since Bill was with her.
He sticks very close to her so she can’t.
