There was a “missing Hillary” frenzy on Twitter tonight of people saying this was the first time in 20 years that HRC was not in attendance at SOTU. Even on Facebook, this poignant photo was shared far and wide.

Actually, this was not the first time she missed SOTU. In 2010 she was in London for a conference on Afghanistan, and from there went on to Paris. Here is her schedule for January 27, 2010, the night of SOTU.
Secretary Clinton’s Schedule for January 27, 2010

ON FOREIGN TRAVEL Secretary Clinton attends a Meeting on Yemen Hosted by the Government of the United Kingdom and holds Bilateral Meetings in London, England.

I remember that she wasn’t at the SOU in 2010. The SOU is not the same without her being in attendance. I’m glad that other people noticed her absence and missed her too.
I saw that you remembered. We are in a tiny club. Even journalists did not remember or look it up. But yes, there was a “missing Hillary pity-party” tonight. Awwwwwwwwwwww……
I’m sure she was watching at home.
Yes, looking cute in pjs. And with WJC talking to the TV set.
haha, a cup of tea in each their hands..
nice pic.
Probably both of them were talking to the TV set as if it were some odd combination of the superbowl and showtime at the Apollo.
Mom4Hill said downthread that she could picture them doing the Really! Really? sketch Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers used to do on SNL.
I wasn’t interested in watching it withouit Hillary being in attendance. Her presence was the only thing that made the whole thing bearable in previous years.
You didn’t miss anything. We still don’t know the State of the Union. I think some southern states still want to secede, but that did not come up. Boehner spent the time looking like he wanted to ask Scotty to beam him up.
I’m in the South – there’s always a lunatic fringe, but that “secede” thing pretty much has gone away. Boehner looked nervous and Rubio was completely idiotic. If that’s the best they can do, I almost feel bad for the GOP. I could almost picture Hillary and Bill watching Rubio and doing their own version of “Really?” (the SNL sketch with Seth & Amy doing the news).
Rubio was pathetic.
AGREED. He has zero presence. His words are not impactful… and he is in extreme mode in his statements.
I figured that I wasn’t going to miss anything. Obama bloviating, the Democrats jumping up and clapping on cue, the Republicans doing the exact opposite by sitting on their hands, etc.
Blah…………
The jumping up and down part was a big reason why I was glad our girl didn’t have to be there last night. Not that I don’t miss her, but I never liked seeing her in that particular context.
I hear you…………
I didn’t bother to watch either, but I did read that it looks like marco rubio did a paul ryan at the debate with joe and got real thirsty, when he gave his gop response.
You know, we have seen Hillary sip water during speeches probably hundreds of times, but she does it so gracefully and daintily that it almost seems choreographed into the speech and you hardly notice. Rubio’s problem was that he did it so awkwardly, and it was so noticeable. He seemed nervous.
Some pundit (I forget who) wrote that Rubio won’t run if Hillary runs. He’s afraid of her. He would rather wait and run when she’s done. He has plenty of time.
Rubio doesn’t and won’t have enough experience. We have already been down that road. Last night he looked like he was afraid of his own shadow.
