On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States of America, I am delighted to send best wishes and congratulations to the people of Pakistan as you mark 63 years of independence.
Fatimah Jinnah once said that the story of Pakistan is a story of “the ideals of equality, fraternity, and social and economic justice.” Since gaining independence in 1947, the people of Pakistan have been writing that story, one day at a time. Together, you have overcome significant challenges. In just the past few weeks, Pakistanis and partners from many countries have worked to protect people and homes from the floods that swept through so many areas. The damage is serious, but I know Pakistan will rebuild.
And the Pakistani people will continue to write the story that began 63 years ago. As you do, please know that the people of the United States are committed to standing by you. We admire what you have accomplished since Independence. And we seek to support you as you build upon the ideals that inspired your nation from the start.
So on this occasion, let us reaffirm the partnership our nations share, the strong bonds that connect our people—bonds of family, friendship, history, and common purpose. And let us recommit to making the founding ideals of Pakistan – ideals of equality, fraternity, and social and economic justice – making them real. They helped give rise to Pakistan’s creation, they stand today as goals that we all hold dear, and they provide encouragement as you continue to build a strong, prosperous, progressive, stable, secure nation for the future. Here’s to the democracy of Pakistan and to the people who deserve all that you can build together, knowing that we and others will be there with you on this journey.

Her suit matches the State Department again.

Jewelry, too – with the gilt frame. 🙂

Why do I think she plans this?

I am SURE she does! It’s the same way she plans the flag colors. She plans for the environment. I don’t have it online, but when she went to Indonesia last year she wore her electric blue (which is always awesome) and ended up speaking in front of a huge gold fan that had the same color in it. I am sure she actually gets pictures from the embassies if the venues and plans the wardrobes for her trips accordingly.

Well, sounds like somebody’s a control-freak. That’s one of the things about her I’m not too crazy about. Loosen up, Madame Secretary!

I don’t think it’s that. I think she is aware that these pics are everywhere, and she has a keen aesthetic sense. And I truly do appreciate that she does this. Makes for beautiful pics.

The pictures are lovely. I guess there are worse things than over-thinking your appearance a little. When this is the alternative…
I prefer Secretary Clinton’s approach.

Yeah, she really has a way of lighting up the surroundings … and making the interactions interesting!

I think interacting with Dubya that day must’ve been interesting. How do you look at the President of the United States and keep a straight face when his fly’s down?

I don’t see any straight faces!

Best face – yep, Putin’s. 😀
On an unrelated note, I love how we can go from talking about Hillary’s suit to discussing Dubya’s fly.

I like the guy bent completely over looking at the floor. Hillary’s suit to w’s fly: the sublime to the ridiculous.
In his defense, I saw him in Haiti with Jenna this week, and he’s doing good work. He and Laura raised two nice, lovely girls. I enjoy Jenna’s reports on Today.

I never thought Dubys was evil. I just thought he wasn’t the brightest crayon in the box. I think there were people in his administration (Cheney, Rummy, Asscroft) who were scary, but not him. He’s just goofy.

I agree. I never thought he was evil, and I was incensed that that reporter got away with lobbing TWO shoes at him. I hope these agents do a better job of protecting our girl.

If somebody throws shoes at Hillary, she’ll throw them back. She’s got some chutzpah! I do hope they take good care of her though. I fear flying shoes far less than I fear flying bricks, like the one someone threw at Silvio Berlusconi a while back and it hit him in the face. it was a glancing blow, but still a glancing blow from a brick is serious business.

It’s not really flying shoes I fear either. I want her safe.

I know, but no one can keep her from going off to wherever she feels her presence will make a difference for US interests and I doubt her first concern is for her own safety. That’s the job of whomever is the head of State Dept. security, an individual who, I’m sure, has more grey hairs now than they did when Hillary first moved in.

I’m sure, but so far they have done a yeoman’s job! Both State Security and Secret Service.

OMG! LOL! 😆
Ok, I meant Dubya, not Dubys and Ashcroft instead of Asscroft, but I prefer the first one. Hahaha, oh Freud.
