Since her speech at the Council on Foreign Relations yesterday morning, Hillary, or her words, have been under many microscopes. Friends and readers have been sharing articles focusing on small parts of the speech.
1. She mentioned the debt! (Yes, her purview. It comes up when she is doing diplomacy with foreign leaders.)
2. She pissed off Mexico! (She told the truth. Some regions there are at risk with cartels taking on paramilitary forces.)
3. She foreshadowed trouble in Sudan! (Yup, well….)
There is more. I will not drive this car into anybody’s ditch, if you catch my meaning.
On the other hand, several good buddies shared this lovely review, which I encourage everyone to read. Hillary’s Home Run of a Speech by Tunku Varadaraja, The Daily Beast.
Bottom line, from the moment State announced the speech, we had to know that her paragraphs and video would be snipped and clipped, her sentences would be parsed, her lexicon analyzed. What impressed me most about this speech was its comprehensiveness, coherence, and consistency (my three pillars of a great Hillary speech). Taking this speech and even the ensuing Q & A apart does it an injustice. The beauty and message is in the whole, not in its parts, like a lovely mosaic.
That said, although out of the public eye today, she has been in focus through one or another lens, so I thought I would share this slideshow.
Sometimes we see her on a jumbotron, sometimes in a video or camera screen, sometimes it is a reflection, and in some cases she is merely interestingly framed. I have been collecting these for awhile. Here is Hillary through or in a glass brightly!

Check this out… it’s like clockwork…

do you think it’s more O playing good cop because Mexico is pissed? the MSM goes for the Obama-Clinton rift storyline basically on cue after Hillary has a really good press day.

Well, Frank James (what an unfortunate name) may want to frame them as “growing.” I don’t buy that. The strains, I am sure, were always there. I think our girl is feeling her oats. Beware the Nuclear Cookie: Shoots Off Mind-Lightning That Knocks Grown Men On Their Butts!

That good cop/bad cop idea crossed my mind yesterday, before he made the statement you linked to, and it was not in conjunction with the Mexico statement. It was more amorphous – like I said in the post – the whole of the speech and Q & A had her tough edge on them (but were delivered with a feminine softness – she has that talent).
But in this specific instance I cannot help but remember that when she was in Colombia, Bill was there with her. They visited the National Palace together even though there were no pics of them together there. There is more to this than meets the eye, methinks.

hmm. I guess I’m just not convinced it’s as big as the MSM is making it sound.

I think it’s much BIGGER than they know.

The truth hurts sometimes Mexico. They should learn from Columbia before MORE of their officials get shot. Seems like everyday some sheriff or mayor in mexico is getting killed.

And that was what drew the comparison – that the violence is becoming more intense (car bombs, ect…). She wasn’t critiquing the Mexican government.

She wasn’t. She was very supportive of Calderon. I can understand Mexico perhaps misunderstanding English, but Obama also misunderstood.

If Mexico is offended because Hillary told the truth, then that’s just too bad. Their problems are spilling over into our country. This isn’t something that’s happening on the other side of the globe that we can ignore. And what about Americans who have family in Mexico? How can they not be worried about their loved ones?

Agreed, Jen! And a more even-handed assessment of the situation you won’t hear, this side of the facts, from the SOS. There was no reasonable reason for the objection by either Mexico or BO. I don’t like to characterize this lovely woman in such a way, but, she really has more balls than any of them.

For women the opposing organ is heart. Hillary has heart. A huge, beautiful heart that obliterates all opposition. What captured and has held me for many years is Hillary’s beautiful heart. That is what motivates her battle. She doesn’t need cajones. Not at all. She has heart. She has MY heart.

“• Some deficit hawkery from Hillary Clinton. Would love to hear the counterfactual about how different her Presidency would have gone.” David Dayen, 9 Sep 2010, at http://news.firedoglake.com/
What Secretary Clinton said about the deficit is in no way similar to what the Prez is doing; e.g., she didn’t appoint a Catfood Commission to slash Social Security.
Just another example of how her words are unfairly and dishonestly sliced and diced and prove nothing about how her Presidency would have gone.
But then, no one can accuse FDL of ever being pro-Hillary. Quite the opposite.
