It’s a heck of a commute! The SOS will be wheels up on Sunday, at UNHRC on Monday, and on the Hill on Tuesday. Here are her words about her meeting in Geneva.
Special Session of the Human Rights Council on the Situation in Libya
Press Statement
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of StateWashington, DCFebruary 25, 2011
The United States welcomes today’s action by the UN Human Rights Council condemning human rights violations and violence committed by the Libyan government against its own people, and we strongly support the Council’s establishment of an independent commission of inquiry to investigate these violations with a view towards ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. The Council also recommended suspending Libya’s membership and our Mission at the United Nations in New York is working with partners in the General Assembly to build support for a resolution to do so.
These steps underscore the international community’s profound concern about the abuses in Libya, and we urge all nations to speak with one voice in support of universal human rights. That includes an immediate end to Libyan government violence against the Libyan people and support for the universal rights of peaceful assembly, free speech, and self-determination. The Libyan people should be able to determine their own destiny.
Today’s vote must be followed by sustained commitment and consistent action, and I will discuss this challenge with my colleagues at the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday.
No rest for the Secretary of State. Another rough, sleepless weekend for Secretary Clinton.

Hopefully she will sleep on her plane coming home. I recall the article in Harper’s Bazaar said she can sleep on departure and arrivals. That said, let us all wish her well and pray for a safe trip. God Speed Madame Secretary.

But Harpers also said that she will sometimes work through entire flights. She is smack in the middle of history right now, and she’s very aware of it. While looking for something else, I encountered this post from almost exactly two years ago.

Remember all that talk about how she and her strength were being eclipsed by the super-envoys, the Rice/Power team, and how it was anathema that we were rejoining UNHRC? Well, with two years hindsight, the reason for “going back into the arena” (as she put it at the time) becomes clear. So many objected to Libya’s membership. Well, now we are there to request Libya’s suspension. This is history. No sitting SOS has ever addressed the council. She will find a time to get some rest, but this won’t be the time.

Bill must be so proud. He seems to enjoy the fact that she’s one of the most powerful people in the country. (To put it mildly. Who else has ever made the phrase “Goodbye, Madame Secretary,” sound naughty? 😉 ) He must love watching her make history.

I think the naughtier would be
Bill: “Good morning Madame Secretary”
Hillary: “Morning Mr. President. How did you sleep”
Bill: “Wonderful, you?”
Hillary: “I feel very well “rested” *wink* thank you”

“Glad to hear that because you a have a thorough debriefing scheduled before you leave for Geneva.”
I’m leaving that there. You have imaginations, this is a family-friendly zone, and I don’t want to think too hard about Clintonian bedroom behavior.

hahaha. ya we’ll leave it there until she shows up with the *glow* she often has when/after she’s with him.

She will need her special *glow* considering her busy schedule in upcoming days.

The way things around the world are going, there might not be any “resting” for quite some time. With that much pent up … energy, she’s going to need a few days worth of “rest” to get her glowing again.

Sneaking suspicion she will have it. I know she is working (from home) with Bubba cheering her on. He’s her biggest supporter and fan!

🙂 Once upon a time, my colleagues at a previous job and I used to gang up for these games. One Georgetown grad, one Syracuse, and one Seton Hall. Me? Well, Columbia isn’t much of a basketball school. I just tagged along.
Was going to say before clicking on the link that Terry McAuliffe was with him. The article doesn’t say so, but I think he was.

Bill looks so pale. He’s lost his “glow” too. I don’t know whether his is “rest”-induced or has some other some other cause though.

He looks pretty healthy to me. Of course an extra glow is always welcome!

He looks healthy, just colorless. Then again what should I expect. It’s February.
