There’s a gala tonight at the Kennedy Center honoring the elder Bush. The Squire of State will be attending, so I would assume he’s spending the afternoon with a certain lady who’s in need of her glow.

I hope she attends with him! Evening gown pictures!

😉 It would be great!

I think she’d probably prefer going to bed early, but then again Bush the elder isn’t a young man any more, so I doubt this is going to be a ‘party like a rock star’ event. Maybe she will go along.

I hope that she escorts her Squire. They are one good looking couple.
I love the outfit and the beautiful necklace she wore in that pic.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
Carter, Mrs. Carter, random empty chair, Clinton, Bush, Mrs. Bush, Dubya, Mrs. Dubya. Was a certain former first lady photoshopped out? Major photo let down here in DiscourseLand.

Where’s Hillary? Didn’t she attend? Bummer!!!

It’s images like this that keep the whole “the Clinton don’t like each other anymore” rumor alive and kicking. Come on, Hillary, put a gown on, turn your BlackBerry on silent, and go do the former first lady thing.

She probably had to run to the lobby to take a call from Obama. Press briefing today, Mark Toner said she was on the phone with him a few times today.

I don’t know how reliable this bit of DC gossip is, but it highlights another possible reason for her absence, and you aren’t going to like it.
Bush, 86, will be accompanied Monday by former first lady Barbara Bush. First ladies Rosalynn Carter and Laura Bush will also attend with their respective spouses. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is traveling.
(I told you you wouldn’t like it.)

Well, whatever she was doing today, it was kept quiet. Maybe she was traveling. She has a major event tomorrow at 2 in DC. Given all that’s going on, nothing would surprise me. Bear in mind, the State Dept. has said she is “traveling” when she is in NY! She was in NY on Sunday. She could well have stayed back to talk to some UN people. They would call that “traveling.”

Ok. I had visions of waking up tomorrow to find that she’d flown off to sure up the coalition (a highly presidential image), but for her sake I hope she’s home, in her PJs, curled up on the sofa with a good movie and a pint of Ben & Jerry’s.

I would hope that, by now, she is. When she has “no public appointments” I take it very literally. She often does have appointments, but they are not public. She may have been through a rough day. Hope she’s home and comfy!

It’s too bad that she doesn’t have a certain someone there with her gently rubbing the tension from her shoulders, but that would be too perfect to be anything but fiction. The Squire of State is partying.

Hi ladies! Word around the “internets” is our girl is being called a “hero” for her leadership with Libya. BO ends up with everyone ticked off at him. And knock me over with a feather, tonight Hannity ends his show with a rather sincere “I’d feel more confident if Hillary were the president”. Even he couldn’t believe he said it. Wow. If she is MIA on the social scene, it makes me think she is TCOB! Probably talking BO down from the ledge, too. Bill did not want it to be said that they snubbed the event so he’s being a good soldier. Leadership abhors a vacuum–I think this is the way retirement dreams will meet the cold water.

Hannity! I am blown away! I just put the re-run on. Must hear this with my own ears!

I think you’re deglecting one element often overlooked when the subject is your girl – her heart. Personally, I don’t think she was expecting to be treated as badly as she was in 08. I think she was genuinely wounded by some of those comments and is understandably wary of getting back into the political fray. She wasn’t broken, but I think she came closer than she let on.
With all of that in mind, the praise in the media (and a good amount of gentle prodding from Bill) might get her to consider something other than retirement, but it will take some time.

I think we know our girl.

I’ll take your word for it, but as one outside the Hillarealm, I think a few more gushing words and Bill’s encouragement couldn’t hurt. I think she has one of those two things already. (BTW, I just realized how dirty “gentle prodding from Bill” sounds. 😳 Sorry! I meant encouragement not a Secretarial Debriefing.)

Hadn’t taken it that way. I think when she talks about her plans in the media she is talking about Plan B or C. She isn’t lying. That’s how Clinton-code works. It IS a plan, but it isn’t Plan A. She doesn’t need any prodding. She is fed up! She is near the end of her rope with Obama.

S4H, I agree. I also think in this way she forces the Dem party’s hand: I’m not going after the presidency, so, put up or shut up! They really should publicly beg her to save the party from BO.

An intriguing tidbit. Nancy Pelosi, not a Clinton BFF by a long shot, went with (actually might have lead ) a congressional delegation this weekend. The destinations were Afghanistan and Italy. There was very little fanfare and, had it not be for her being ill in Rome, I don’t think anyone would’ve noticed but it’s and interesting move from someone who is nothing if not an incredibly shrewd and adept politician. While in Italy, she met with the Italian Minister of Defense and then we magically start hearing more about their involvement in the no-fly zone. She also visited with troops in Afghanistan. In short, she’s taking a turn in a hawkish direction and that is not usually her territory. I think she’s sensing the democrats searching for someone strong. If this mood has caused her to take a more hawkish posture, something must be up. I just thought it was interesting. I don’t know Clinton Code, but I do understand Pelosi Political Strategy and this is interesting, especially since all this happened when Obama was out of the country. I’m going to enjoy watching her this election season, I think.

Oh dear, that makes me think Pelosi smells a primary challenge in the air and she thinks she can beat out Hillary again. Good luck, Nance, I think you’re riding the down escalator while Hill is on her way up!

I don’t think so. She’s got to repair her image at the moment. San Francisco is not exactly lacking in liberal politicians and she’s not getting any younger. If she’s tacking in Hillary’s direction it’s because she’s sensing that that’s the way the political prevailing winds are blowing. She doesn’t have enough political muscle now to make too much of a difference in other elections. This is a personal career survival move, I think.

I can’t STAND that @#%&*$# woman!!!!!
She twisted many a super delegate’s arm during the primaries on Obama’s behalf. After Obama clinched the nomination she said in public over and over that Hillary would be a bad choice for VP. She was the Speaker of the Hosue and should not have talked that way about a fellow member of her party. As Speaker, at least in public, she should have remained neutral.
Also, she never once spoke against the sexism that Hillary had to endure during the primaries. She only mentioned it months later when it didn’t matter anymore.
If there was anything to rejoice about when the Democrats lost the House in 2010 was to see Nancy dethroned. Served her right!!!

I think she was speaking the truth about Hillary as VP. Many assumed that an Obama/Clinton ticket was a foregone conclusion and I don’t think that would’ve worked well at all. If the rumors that he views her with suspision are true when she’s across town at Foggy Bottom, imagine what it would be like if she were across the street! She kept saying that he needed to be able to make his own choice just like Hillary would’ve needed to do had she won. She wasn’t saying Hillary couldn’t do the job, just that she might not be Obama’s choice and that that should be ok. She was, in my opinion, correct. I was saying that same thing at the time.
She wasn’t going to be neutral. At the time, she was one of the biggest fundraisers in the democratic party. She picked her candidate and. got all the power that came with that endorsement at the time. She chose the candidate that was more liberal because that’s in line with her thinking and because she recognized that either of them could win, so she could go with her personal choice. She reads the political signs rather well, just like she’s doing now in her effort to repair her standing and avoid being thrown under the bus by a party that’s cooled to her and a president who is no longer helped by her.
She didn’t say anything about the sexism in that race, but she never says anything about about the sexism that she faces, so the fact that she didn’t come out crusading against it didn’t surprise me.
It probably says a lot about me and/or what politics is like where I live, but I understand Nancy Pelosi’s politics a lot more than I do the more Clintonian variety and am one of the ten people on the planet who doesn’t think she’s the definition of pure evil. She makes sense and watching her is usually pretty telling. Her statements on Libya are in lockstep… with Hillary. I think that’s more significant than some conservatives wishing Hillary was president.

My father thinks she’s sick of this administration, too. To quote Papa Discourse, “I think she’s tired of being forced to look foolish by association.”

Discourse, I do think you’re right about how hurtful all the hate must’ve been to Hillary. I thought to myself once, she’s tough and it doesn’t bother her. Then, after Biden said something nice about her being just as or more qualified to be VP, I noticed the next photo of them showed her giving him an extra warm smile and hug. After that I felt, yeah, she cares. It says to me she puts herself out there for love of people and America with no illusions. So unlike BO.

I noticed her steely facade crack a few times during the primaries. Just for a second, you’d see a hint of emotion. I couldn’t believe the race was brutal enough to hurt her.

I just read an article from politico from one of Obama’s former friends who says that he is not exactly loyal.

There are a lot of people under that bus. Ask Caroline Kennedy. Don’t you think she expected to be named ambassador to someplace Catholic and nice? Or the UK where her grandfather was ambassador? See what she got for supporting him and saying he was like her dad (SO NOT!) … a big , fat, nothing! Not a loyal cell in him!

I am the last one on earth (if you know me well enough) to imply that she is a woman of steel. I always liked and admired her, but when I saw the treatment she received during the primaries, and how she stood up to it, it was the little girl inside her that moved me – brought out the “Mama PUMA.” Nobody’s daughter should be treated that way. I know a lot of that hurt, and she kept her game face on. I certainly would not blame her not to want to face that again.
But in that same soft heart of hers is a deep love for this country. If she has lost patience with Obama it is because his dilly-dallying hurts Americans, and she loves this country. If her people want/need her to run, tired as she might be, I can see her answering that call.

I still get poed at Obama’s your likeable enough and his punjab comment.

Hillary’s steely demeanor is a facade, she’s far more sensitive that she lets on. When Bill was running for reelection in 1996 Time magazine made a comparison of Elizabeth Dole and Hillary. They said that Elizabeth’s demeanor was that of the velvet glove in an iron fist, while Hillary’s was the iron glove in the velvet fist.
Hillary presents a hard facade to protect herself. There’s a wall that only those she trusts can break. She has been burned so many times by the media and other people that she tends to be guarded and doesn’t trust too easily. When she’s at ease she is warm, funny and intensely human. She deserved far better than the betrayal of so many within her party.

This is just an ongoing heartache, yes? I keep wondering who those people are seeing when they look at Hillary. It’s beyond rational.

To see the way that Hillary was treated by the media and by some members of her party broke my heart. I was a lifelong Democrat up to that point, but switched to Independent in 2008. I don’t have any regrets.

I got to know her as NY senator and during her presidential campaign. She’s one hell of a woman!! Nobody will ever convince me that she wouldn’t have been a far better president than the person we ended up with in the WH.
Oh, well……..

Not “oh well” at all considering recent events and how strong and “leader-like” she’s looked at a time when people are starting to sense a desire among democrats for strong leader. More like “oh wait”.

I heard Hannity say it at the end of his show and I almost fell off the bed in shock. Cal Thomas who was also there agreed with him.
They are not the only ones, many conservatives have said the same thing. They may not agree with Hillary’s politics, but would rather have her as president than Obama. They agree with James Carville’s famous comment during the primaries about Obama’s lack of ‘nads.

My father’s a conservative and has been saying all along that if it had to be a democrat in 08, he wishes it had been Hillary. That’s one of my issues with her. My father and I are political opposites. We shouldn’t be agreeing on candidates. It makes it seem like a trap.

Maybe it is sincere, Discourse. There are people from both sides who love America and know that Hillary does, too.

I know my father is sincere but it just rattles my little world. There are certain things in life that are constant. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Starbucks coffee is over-priced. My father and I argue about politics. That is just how things are. If he and I start agreeing about politics, we won’t talk and I’ll have to find someone else to argue with. 🙂

You should be happy to agree with your dad on this point. During the primaries she won the reluctant respect of many conservatives because she did not bow down to media pressure, and that of some within the party, that kept telling her to drop out of the race. That’s around the time that I started listening on and off to conservative radio and was surprised to hear how many hosts and callers would use terms such as: spunky, gutsy, brave, etc. to describe Hillary. They may not have agreed with her politics, but they grew to respect her.
