Earlier in the day, I stepped inside here, took the temperature, and immediately realized that the readership was in desperate need of a Hillary-fix. I remember that around this time last year I did some kind of retrospective of the year thus far. Since today was a slow Hillary-news day, and there were no new pictures, today is as good as any for a semi-annual smart-diplomacy review.
Many of these pictures are favorites. Some are significant. For whatever reason I saved them, I noticed in collecting the slideshow that we see some cutting-edge fashion on the exquisite Secretary of State. She may not have influenced everybody, but I can say that I have nine new chiffon and/or ruffled tops in my closet. They make me feel carefree and happy. Looking at the pretty SOS wearing this style, I think she looks feminine, fancy-free, and absolutely gorgeous!

Wow, absolutely gorgeous!!! Thanks for doing this.

Whew! Facebook is burning up tonight. People pretty much know what Obama is going to do. We need a steel spine not overcooked spaghetti! There is anger out there!

Well, even I’m sitting here pining for another option and that’s a rather new thing as we all know. How many more ways can he sell out those who put him in office?

Even you? Your generation should be the most furious! You are the ones who will be working until you are eighty even if you choose not to. Even if they raise the retirement age to 70, you will have to do something to make ends meet. The government will be happy to supplement your measly “entitlement” (that you paid into all of your working life) by giving you park maintenance duty or something. EVEN YOU?
You should not be pining. You should be infuriated!

Well, I and my other more politically minded friends are, but many people my age are just trying to keep from going insane and/or bankrupt.

Well, this is not helping them. He collapsed on student loans, too. And he missed his chance to do a Rooseveltian thing last year after the oil spill. He could have created a new CCC with rebates for tuition. I can’t believe young people are not out on the streets. There is no investment in youth. None.

Because both parties seem to have concluded that the under 35 crowd is just about useless. Republicans have historically been the party of “Hey you damn kids, get off my lawn!” but Democrats stopped caring a while ago, too. Under 35’s generally aren’t CEOs (Mark Zuckerberg is a very well known exception, I know.) They generally aren’t big donors. They generally have little to no power or influence of any kind, ergo they are useless and can be kicked to the curb with the rest of the formerly cool issues like pay equity and such until they need envelope stuffers and someone to get the coffees.
I’m sorry, but nobody gives a flying fruit snack about anyone under 35 unless they happen to be Mark Zuckerberg or someone like him and I don’t see that changing any time soon. I am resigned to the fact that, but the time politicians start caring about me in any way, they will have already screwed my generation over about nine different ways.

Preach it, sister! But there is one who knows what “investment in the future” means and has not ceased working for the future inasmuch as she has been able. She is worth supporting. Not everyone has kicked your generation to the curb. HRC and WJC are invested. .

Bill Clinton is the only political figure to really take an interest in young people between their time as education statistic and their entry into the “Average Joe” (n. A working person of the age where many have school age children, a modest house, a morgage, and so on. Refered to my older relatives as having finally settled down.) stage which every politician courts to no end. In his post-presidency he seems to have taken the under 35 crew on as sort of a pet project along with a few small countries and a handful of global causes. Now Secretary Clinton never had the same zeal for under 35s as her husband does, but maybe she’ll take more of an interest when she is retired and looking for a pet project.

How can you say that? This is just from Wednesday, but I could go back through this blog and find many other examples.
I am also partially guilty for not publishing everything the State Department releases such as this one from yesterday. There are just so many hours in my day.

That these programs address international populations is a function of her position, but I take real exception to your comment that she has never shown zeal for this population. Everything she says and does is about the kind of country and world young people will inherit. She is clearly at her happiest among young people and students.

I said that she has not shown the same zeal as her husband has in regard to under 35s, but that’s like saying that I don’t show the same literary and theatrical ability as Shakespeare. It’s not that she is doing too little, but that he does so much. She has a position which keeps her well away from domestic policy and therefore has little connection to any US issues at the current time.

Not all of that was supposed to be italicized. Sorry.

Well, her position is something I pointed out.
Comparing these two is like comparing apples to oranges. They have very different styles. Her record stands for itself. I had, in my Youtube collection, her very competent and impassioned presentation before the Senate on student financial aid. It was very impressive and argues my point. The Senate has washed all of those videos now that she no longer holds that post. Unfortunately, the day she made that excellent presentation, the media preferred, motivated by WaPo’s Robyn Givhan, to focus on her cleavage instead of her message.
She has always stood for young people. Maybe the media has not always framed it that way or even bothered to report it. That does not change the fact.

CSPAN should have her Senate work archived. I remember hearing that the speech she had given that day was about education but all I remember was everyone talking about her breasts.
I have always seen her as the candidate of the older woman – my mother’s candidate ( which she definitely is, by the way) – but she has always been an advocate for children as well and I guess that extends to those between 22 and 35.

Over her 40 years in public service, that would include some people approaching retirement age now.

I can understand why Hillary saves her cutest clothes for her overseas visits. The foreign media are the ones who are paying attention to her work. The msm is too busy with Casey Anthony to report any real news. (And before anyone jumps on me, yes it’s tragic that Caylee died. But Casey’s trial should never have gotten the kind of national media coverage that it has.)

I agree with you on the Anthony trial media circus.
I also see your point about the wardrobe. Unless she is making a big speech or participating in a huge event, our media does not give her much camera time. Look at Wednesday – only seven pictures. (But that was a cute jacket!)
