A year ago, the internet was all abuzz about the pending wedding of Chelsea Victoria Clinton to Marc Mezvinsky. We knew the site was Rhinebeck, N.Y. People were arriving, and in Hillary-Hood we wondered about the gowns, the hair, and whether we would get to see any good pictures. Cable news and networks had teams covering the arrivals and the doings around Rhinebeck. There was much excitement in the air, and rumors were flying about who was or was not on the guest list. Everything was very secret. The first glimpse we got of the Clintons that day came in the evening when Bill and Hillary Clinton showed up at a reception given in their honor the night before the wedding. We did not see the bride or groom that night.
So, here we are a year later, and all the drama on cable news today is over the negotiations on Capitol Hill to save the country from default on its debt, so that looking for the national debt advice. It seems almost unreal that our great country could be on the verge of economic disaster – unnecessary, avoidable disaster, at that. The leadership vacuum has never been more obvious. Once again the president got on Saturday morning TV and read us a laundry list of the terrible things that will happen if the bad Republicans do not fall into line. Well, I think we all have known what is on that list for weeks and did not need yet another George W. Bush style speech from Barack Obama to remind us. Both of these presidents use the same rhetoric: statement of the obvious. I could have given that speech without the teleprompter! Where is the speech about what he is going to do to save us from the disaster? Why is this White House so afraid of the 14th Amendment?
To assuage my anxiety and yours I offer this lovely slideshow of two great leaders who are afraid of nothing. Neither of these two people would hesitate to take the reins of leadership in this crisis. So, in the words of the eloquent Sarah Palin, “How’s that hopey changey thing workin’ out for ya?”
Enjoy the show! The SOS could not have looked more glamorous! Just exquisite! She is beautiful enough to be a movie star, but I have a better job in mind for her.
You two make a lovely couple , nice dress by the way. Hillary2012
see you in the white house ,soon I hope ,

Absolutely adorable. Go for it Amanda! When I was your age I wrote to presidents, but a woman president was out of the question then. Not anymore, thanks to Hillary. Let’s see what is in the cards for 2012. Anything can happen, including Hillary running for president again.

There would be a challenge to his use of the 14th amendment in the SCOTUS and, since the court is majority conservative, they would probably rule against him. Then the impeachment proceedings begin. With a Supreme Court ruling against him, Obama an all his Cabinet could be removed from office by the end of the year leaving the Sprinkler of the House, John Boenher and god knows who else in charge. Also, since a President who was removed from office is banned from running for any office again and there is no other Democratic candidate in the mix, there would be no Democrat ready to challenge the Republican nominee in 2012. I think that’s why he’s nervous about the 14th amendment – it’s a very, very big gamble. Even bigger than taking our social safety net apart and hoping to be re-elected in time to fix it.
As for the Dubya-esque speeches, I don’t know what the strategery is with that and I don’t see it helping with our nuculer-grade economic problems.

Barney Frank said it this morning. They are talking seriously about the 14th. It’s not just me. It’s coming from the Hill. Bill Clinton said almost two weeks ago that this is what he would have done, and I think he knows the make-up of the court. He said he would “…let them take me to court.”
So it’s a dire predictions duel – all the bad things that will happen if the Tea Party wins v. removing Obama from office? Is there somebody IN the Oval Office? Like I said in 2007 – he’s an empty suit. He even managed to alienate his Twitter followers yesterday by over-spamming them. Lost 33,000 followers. Oh, yeah, but he’s so cool! I have never seen such incompetence.

No, it isn’t just you. It’s a growing number of House and Senate Democrats, some in the punditry and blogosphere, and many of the “little people” – including me – but I can understand why he’s hesitant. If he does use the 14th amendment, it will be in the last few minutes of the last hour. It will give him a little more to stand on in court.
As far as I’m concerned, a Tea-merica wins whether they remove this administration from office, or merely force every economic so far to the right it falls off the edge of reason. I wonder how many Constitutional amendments we’ll need to get us through to 2012?

Some in the blogosphere are saying that he can use section 3 against the Tea Party – that they represent insurrection. I was only thinking section 4, but it may be possible to prosecute them under section 3.. The Reps regard themselves as temps who came to DC only to do one thing. The core are very dangerous and have been from the start. I think they picked up some honestly disgruntled people from both parties along the way, but I am not sure even the politicians who have joined them and run under their banner understand who the core people are and what they believe. I started to be aware of them when they freaked over Janet Napolitano’s memo on homegrown terrorists – do you remember that?

Yes, when someone can take that personally, I think it says something pretty clear. So does having to buy their votes with the promise of changing the Constitution. All of their “take the country back” stuff makes me wince, too. I’m a citizen, which means it’s also my country and I’d rather not “go back” to anywhere.

He does. She can’t get involved in domestic policy. The best she could do would be to give her Squire a bull horn and leave the country on a very conviniently timed bit of diplomatic travel while he explains why these cuts are terrible to anyone who will listen. If he could come up with a non-14th amendment solution to the debt crisis too, that would be lovely. (I think invoking the amendment is our fifteen-minutes-to-midnight solution right now.)

15-minutes-to-midnight for a spineless, inept, neophyte second-rate junior Senator turned “The Hope of the World” and dragged over the finish line by Pelosi, Reid, and that foul-mouthed Brazile who sends me atrocious emails.
A courageous POTUS would have ended this with the 14th two weeks ago! He is not going to do it. If he were, he would have long ago. He is a miserable excuse for a leader of a cub scout pack, the heck with “The Leader of the Free World.”

A courageous POTUS wouldn’t have gotten into this situation in the first place. If Hillary had been elected in 2008, there wouldn’t BE a Tea Party. There would be right-wing nutjobs aplenty and they’d be making a ruckus, but it wouldn’t be like this.

Hi everyone
FranSC you got that right the illegitimate POTUS is showing how overwhelmed he is. He has shown all of us how un-prepared he really is. But of course we all knew that. He won’t be the next POTUS. The nightmare is almost over.

They said both countries pick bad leaders. In Obama’s case it’s not just bad. There is no leader. As Gertrude Stein said, “There’s no there there.”
