I have long said that Bill Clinton is a lucky guy because he got not only the smartest girl in the class, but the most beautiful and compassionate as well. Apparently, his prom queen is also the most popular! Not just the most popular girl, the most popular person! Lucky Bill, because, Mr. President, she loves you. And the nation loves her! (They love you, too. You know that, right?)
This little excursion into the media has nothing to do with a Hillary run, and a great deal to do with the work our Mme. Secretary does which we track as closely as possible here. Her poll numbers simply continue to rise like a helium balloon. I heard recently that there is a helium shortage. I think that could be because all of the helium is attached to the person known as Hillary Rodham Clinton. For three long years plus many of us have been chanting “Rise, Hillary, rise!” Well ladies, and gents, Hillary has long been rising. She is now at 69% approval. If she goes much higher, she just might float right through that glass ceiling … whether she intends to or not!

… Hillary Clinton Remains America’s Most Popular National Figure
Zeke Miller| Sep. 27, 2011, 12:32 PM
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s approval rating is at an all-time high — even better than when she was the nation’s First Lady — with 69 percent of Americans holding a favorable view of her, compared to 26 percent who do not.
Clinton’s popularity eclipses even First Lady Michelle Obama, who has a 65 percent favorability rating.
Top of the charts … our girl!

I wonder, though, IS FLOTUS a “political position?” It’s not an elected position and not really an “office.”

It has become one in the past three or so decades. Nancy Reagan and your girl played a large role in that shift.

Well, if we are going to take their issues into consideration, Eleanor Roosevelt was the pioneer, but still, it is neither an elected position nor an “office.” It is a position.

its still a political position. you’re sleeping next to “the leader of the free world,” – you’ve obviously got a say in certain things no matter how insignificant. and you’re campaigning for him to be president again and for many others in Senate/Congress. its a very political position

Eleanor Roosevelt, though never elected to office, paved the way for women in politics and I apologize for not mentioning her. The fact that a politically active First Lady and the appointment of one woman to a Cabinet position could make the idea of women in power not near as implausible as it had been prior to the Roosevelt administration show what a powerful statement non-elected women, with First Ladies chief among them, make to our nation. Marian Anderson singing God Bless America on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial was an event put together by Mrs. Roosevelt and it was quite a thing to see in World War II era America – a black woman singing a song written by a Russian-Jewish immigrant about love for America at the feet of the Great Emancipator on Easter Sunday in 1939. If that isn’t brilliant strategizing and a show of leadership on issues both foreign and domestic, I don’t know what is.

Marian Anderson, Eleanor, and that event are the reasons why the women in my family eschew the DAR for which we eminently qualify – because so did Anderson, and she was rejected.

Hard work and continued efforts in what Hillary believes in is why people like her. The most effective Sec. of State in our life time. I can just imagine what she would be like as our President. Simply amazing.

What people see now is what we, her supporters, have seen for years. Hillary is not only very bright and caring; she is also a much disciplined hard worker. When she starts a new position, whether it is as senator or SOS, she employs the same technique. She lays low and learns everything she can about her new job. She has more stamina than staffers half her age and can go longer than anyone else. CNN recently did a report on the State Dept.’s temporary move to the Waldorf Astoria for the UNGA. Someone mentioned that during the UNGA Hillary on average held between 10 to 14 meetings per day, more than any other SOS ever.
The State Dept. under her tenure has been run more smoothly than in many years and the employees just love her. Unlike other SOS, she pops in at the various agencies’ offices and tries to eat in the cafeteria at least once a month so that the staff can see her in person. She doesn’t just stay in the rarified air of the 7th floor.
Hillary would have been a great president. Damn the Democratic Party’s shortsightedness!!!

It’s not any better from this angle. Bill wants to be president again so badly.

It won’t be Bill. So many times she said: “He’s not standing here right now.” If it is anybody, it will be Hillary. She has her own mind, experience, CV, , and agenda. He just wants her to have that chance. (I do too.) This will not be another WJC presidency. It belongs to Hillary, the ablest person of my generation.

I know that a Hillary Clinton presidency would never have been a Bill Clinton presidency by proxy. One almost wonders whether he would be able to let go of his foundation enough to join her in DC. I mean he wants the job right now, as in he’s standing on that stage barely repressing the urge to yell, “You’re doing the whole domestic policy thing wrong! Move over and let me show you how it’s done.”

That’s exactly what it looks like he’s thinking! Bill did have to step away from the foundation a bit in order for Hillary to be confirmed – he limited his role which is probably why Chelsea took on a greater role. I don’t think he would be hanging around the WH much. It probably would be pretty much the way it is now with Chappaqua being the “weekend White House.”
