I am sharing this article for two reasons. First, it states accurately and articulately my personal position on the statements I have been seeing and hearing since the attack in Benghazi three weeks ago from people were not even on the continent of Africa at the time. If so many people *know* so much, perhaps the government is better off hiring psychics to inform them than sending in the FBI, CIA, and ARB.
Second, Ms. Kemper alludes to the uncommon tsunami of ill-will and incivility that appears to be sweeping the electorate. It stuns me to hear and read some recent remarks from people who claim to have supported Hillary Clinton in 2008. I see comments that resemble nothing of the tone of Hillary’s campaign and everything negative in the way the Obama campaigners approached some of us: the shouting, the anger, and the insults.
It is high time for everyone to step back – out of each other’s faces, take a deep breath, and think and reflect for a moment. It is inappropriate to use the tragedy in Benghazi in any political way. There is no place for rudeness in discussions.
This country has been here for 236 years. Neither of these candidates is the best we have but neither is Satan either. Neither is going to take this country down. Make your choice, but if it differs from mine that does not mean that I am less informed, less intelligent, less American than you are. I simply see things differently. Your vote – and mine – are precious. Let’s be a little more respectful of each other. Take a deep breath – and turn off your caps lock.

Dishonoring Ambassador Stevens and his colleagues
By Kathy Kemper
As a proud, patriotic American, I am embarrassed by the calls that are being made for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice to resign. Not even a month after the murder of our ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and three other Americans, many are politicizing their deaths rather than honoring their service — hardly the behavior that one would or should expect from the citizens of the nation that leads the free world.
Thank you, Still! I agree with what the article says, too. I am disappointed in so-called Hillary supporters who have turned against her based on a handful of far right wing media reports that contain biased and limited information. Let’s wait until the facts come out!

It is disappointing. Suppose she had been POTUS? I guess they would have turned on her in that case too – with little information. I heard misinformation on CNN last night. Ambassadors live in the embassy compounds not at consulates. Stevens might have been staying temporarily in the Benghazi compound, but that was not where he lived. My first question when I heard what happened was “What was he doing at the consulate?” I really have to question the legitimacy of the “journal” they “found.”

Im letting it go in one ear and out the other ear.. It’s just plan silly. So the ambassador felt so threatened, he was still going on runs? I see Issa is once again eager to lead the charge by golly he’s got her this time(heavy scarcasim) Take heart this 2 shall pass and they can give it up Hillary an’t resigning 3 months before the end of her term.

I agree with you guys. I’m sure that no comment from former supporters, right wing political hacks, or voters from either party can possibly cause Hillary more personal pain than she clearly feels about the death of the ambassador and the others. The look on her face at the service said it all. That look didn’t come from fear or worry about political impact on her career or future political aspirations. It came from being stricken and heart sick about the death of these Americans. Period.
As you said, Jen and Still, it is certainly sad to see these attacks on Hillary, especially by people who know the kind of person Hillary is, who know that she is more competent and compassionate than anyone serving this country. I’m honestly not surprised at the right wing. They have certainly never been willing to give a Clinton an even break. I am, however, surprised and sickened by the former Hillary supporters who are so quick to condemn her.
Thank you Still 4 Hill for writing about this issue. It needed to be said.

I’m glad Kathy Kemper wrote what she did, She said what I could not get properly organized myself. When I am angry, it takes me awhile to get my message together, but she did it for me!

and there’s no way i believe the state department turned down requests for greater security for stevens.
as for the “journal,” i saw someone on CNN who was a good friend of Stevens, someone in whom he undoubtedly would have confided, and he never said a word to this person about fearing for his safety.

Aside from the adorable kid in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (maybe I have that backwards) does anybody know ANYbody who keeps a handwritten journal – or handwritten anything any more? Seriously? I can hardly write by hand any more.

and if he did keep a journal, what you say in a journal isn’t the kind of stuff you share with other people. it’s private, which is the point of having one. so if stevens said in the journal he was concerned about safety, he probably wouldn’t have shared that. he would’ve figured that was the risk he was taking by being an ambassador in an unstable country.

Good point. I want to know who actually “found” that journal. I have some serious misgivings about some of these CNN folks.
Today Mme. Secretary is working behind closed doors getting to the bottom of all this.

It’ll be a relief to see some light shed on this. Of course, as you said, it’s being politicized by the right, and anytime a tragedy such as this is used for political gain, it’s not likely that those using it are terribly concerned with accuracy. Regardless, maybe once the facts come out, the Hillary supporters who are blasting her about this will have a second thought or two.

Maybe. There’s a time element too. The longer it takes, the more time the falsehoods (inventions by people who were not present) lie out there.
