This is not the first case I know of in which they have intervened quietly in this manner.
Former President, Secretary of State help James Gandolfini’s family

James Gandolfini died too young, RIP. Picture copyright by Emiley Schweich / PR Photos.
Actor James Gandolfinis body will return to the USA from Italy on Monday after his family receive help from Bill and Hillary Clinton. The former US President and former Secretary of State have expedited the body transfer between the two countries.
Gandolfini family spokesman Michael Kobold gave a press statement thanking the Clintons for their assistance in speeding up the process that otherwise could have taken seven to 10 days.
Still, how was it that the Clintons got in a position to expedite the transfer?

It seems they have been in that position for a long time. I guess being a POTUS, FLOTUS, U.S. Senator, and SOS provides you with numbers to call and strings to pull in certain situations. I don’t think they abuse it at all, but, when it is a bad enough situation and they are asked, they help. He had a 13-year-old son with him on this trip who found his dad almost dead and called for help. I can imagine Hillary’s heart breaking for that child, his experience, and for his mother who certainly must have wanted him home and this part of his life to come to closure sooner rather than drawing it out.

I wonder how people know they have a situation where the Clintons could be helpful and then know how to reach them.

When you have gone through all the possible ranks with no satisfaction, you find a way to get through. Hillary was instrumental in getting Sean Goldman home.

Good question. But I remember during the 2008 campaign a guy was telling the story of how his family needed help during Hurricane Katrina. He was a Republican and he had been trying for days to get help. He had been calling every politician he could, every agency. He needed to evacuate his family and he called Hillary’s Senate office in NY. He said she was the only politician in the country to respond to his call and that she helped make arrangements to evacuate his family. He told this story at a town hall meeting. I don’t remember all the details or have a link. I just know that he was very thankful. I was also thinking, if you really needed help, you would call the Clinton’s because if they knew about your plight, surely they would do anything they could to help you.

What a nice story, I had never heard it before. Although it doesn’t surprise me that her office responded. Both Clintons have helped many people and continue to do so to this day.

Hillary always tries her hardest to help. OT, but I needed to get it off my chest this Edward Snowden situation makes me go hmm. Anyone remember when Bradley Manning leaked that info on DOS cables oh everyone thought the world was ending and it was all Hillarys fault. Remember when the Chinese dissident situation it was oh how’s Hillary gonna handle this it’s a dipolmatic nightmare. So John Kerry is the head of the state department what’s his take on snowden how come no one is on his case he is in the middle east.? Could be just me but it makes me go hmmm.

I feel very ambivalent about Kerry. I feel bad for the guy who wanted this job all his life, and then has to follow the spectacular Hillary Clinton. I also think he is getting far more ( and better) media coverage than Hillary ever got at State. All that said, he, of course, is finally getting sucked into this since it appears that Snowden did not get on that plane loaded with journalists headed for Havana. He is probably still in Russia, and now the post-Clinton DOS that was promised not to expect the same relationship as under her needs to work with a recalcitrant foreign ministry in Moscow. Meanwhile, these are a different kind of leak than Manning’s. These are not communications and we have no idea what is on the hard drives of those four laptops and on the numerous flash drives he is carrying or with whom he might have shared that content. Who has any doubt that he is trading info for safe passage and escape? This is very serious and a big security threat.

I agree this is very serious, but tried to crucify Hillary for manning and Kerry is just now making statements today on Snowden.

Typical “blame the victim” comportment. When he leaked those emails, Manning was reputed to have said “Hillary Clinton will have a heart attack.” Nice. Then she was the one who had to go on an apology tour.
It appears that Snowden is still in Russia, and Kerry actually has some cards he can play there. That’s probably the only reason he is suddenly involved.

You really think that he’s getting better coverage? Most of the time I’m not even aware that he’s out of the country. The guy is so blah.
