Announcing a series of upcoming policy speeches, Hillary Clinton accepted the American Bar Association‘s highest honor today, the ABA Medal, and spoke to the annual meeting about the importance of the Voting Rights Act. She reminisced about early projects in which she participated as a young lawyer registering voters in Texas and tallying the number of school age children actually attending school in New Bedford Massachusetts.

Hillary Clinton Speaks on Voting Rights at American Bar Association in San Francisco
Monday, Aug 12, 2013
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged Washington to strive to protect voting rights in a speech Monday afternoon in San Francisco.
In remarks to the American Bar Association, which was honoring her, Clinton warned against the damage she said could be wrought by the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the landmark Voting Rights Act.
That ruling struck down the formula for determining which counties and states must get pre-clearance from the federal government before changing their voting rules. “By invalidating pre-clearance, the Supreme Court has shifted the burden back onto citizens alleging discrimination,” Clinton said.
I watched part of it live and when she mentioned the “greatest hits” of voting rights infringements playing out in North Carolina right now, my heart skipped a beat. We need some serious help in the Tarheel state…we need some Hillary attention! Now, if she would just address the horrible things that are happening in education in this state, I would be in heaven.

I just listened it from the link. A very good speech. I hope that the lawyers in attendance take heed.

Okay, speaking of fighting for Hillary…don’t you just want to duct tape Anthony Weiner’s mouth (and hands so he can’t text something stupid, too)?

Either he outed a secret or he’s just rambling crap but he’s just an idiot who needs to go away.

I think he is just rambling, but you can never have enough duct tape. Mostly I need it to tape my own fingers (not for that reason), but clearly we need the “club pack” of duct tape for him.

He needs to do two things: drop out of the race and keep his mouth shut. He’s done enough damage to his wife.

This man is an idiot.

Actually, he isn’t. I watched the debate tonight and he didn’t do a bad job at all – especially in contrast to Quinn. She was pathetic. DeBlasio and Thompson did well, also.

Mayb not in some aspects, but I cant help but think that a man who calls some of his aides(interns) Monica, can’t say a simple no comment on any role his wife may have in an unannounced 2016 campaign and who can’t tell the truth about when he stopped his text affairs when he runs for mayor an idiot.

Poor judgment, an impulsive nature (not good in a NYC mayor), and an odd sense of humor (which his wife likes). The correct response to Ben Smith would have been “What campaign?” He was the only candidate who, when asked about a minimum wage job he had held mentioned four and then pointed out that adult heads of families in NYC now try to support families on those jobs, and I have to give him that. Is he annoying? Yes. Should everyone shut up and listen to what these candidates are saying about the issues, yes. They spent way too much time on the subject of Weiner before they ever got off the ground on the issues last night, and, of course that is because of Weiner, but once they got into the issues, he had some good solid positions that the eventual winner would do well to examine. De Blasio is now ahead in the Quinnipiac poll. When Weiner drops out (and he will or he will lose the primary) it would be smart of De Blasio to hire Weiner (quietly) in some advisory capacity. Weiner can do that and until he re-entered the race, I think he was advising some campaigns.

I love how Hillary can always pull up important past positions she held and tasks she completed and her history in the subject of each award she receives.
Her accomplishments are vast. They are trying to dismiss her and they are trying to keep her accolades under wraps and prevent her story from being told. Her light will shine. They cannot put her in the corner.
And, YEP, Weiner needs duck tape on his mouth and on his hands. Poor Huma. She is way too good for that man.

I just watched the speech and I have to thank you for linking to it and sharing it with us. Amazing woman – and I say that as somebody who should be used to her by now. She still makes me tear up and makes me think and makes me want to put my boots on the ground in her army – (with the Patton thread in mind).

Totally agree!I’m already enlisted on her army.
I can’t stand A. Weiner, I never liked him, he’s really a stupid disgusting man.
If Huma wants to stay with him, that’s up to her; but I don’t like him close to Hillary!
