At a sold out event studded with powerhouse names, Hillary Clinton took the stage this afternoon to outline her latest Clinton Foundation initiative entitled “No Ceilings.” Originally announced at the Clinton Global Initiative in September, the project is intended to examine the progress of women in all sectors of society since Hillary’s landmark speech as First Lady in Beijing in 1996. Results are expected by 2016 for the 20th anniversary of that address. She presented the rationale and details at the 10th Pennsylvania Conference for Women held today at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
As at the State Department, she was preceded on the stage today by Madeleine Albright who was interviewed in the morning keynote by Karen Tumulty. New to Twitter, Madeleine tweeted a few photos (as did Ms. Tumulty). One twitpic she shared showed the “pinwomen” she sported on her jacket, a play on the hashtag for the event, #pennwomen. As many know, Secretary Albright was noted for her variety of brooches during her days at State.

Introduced by former PA governor and friend, Ed Rendell, Hillary enumerated the many ceilings standing in the way of women’s full participation in society in her afternoon keynote, a challenge she routinely refers to as the unfinished work of the 21st century, and alluded as well to recent cuts to social safety networks here in the US as the removal of the floor beneath the feet of struggling women – especially single moms.
Speaking, as has become her signature style, sans podium, notes, and teleprompter, she ended her remarks by exhorting the audience of more than 7,000 to “get cracking.”
Not to be outdone by Twitter newbie, Madeleine, Hillary also tweeted out a message.

Great project!! It looks like the event was very well attended. I also love the pics and her new jacket. I want the “pin women” that Madeleine is wearing, I wonder where she got them.

They look to me like the kind of things people might have given her as gifts – knowing her penchant for pins.

You’re probably right. People are always giving her pins.

Chuck Schumer endorsed her in Iowa last night. Just jumping at his only opportunity, I can’t say I blame the man. (huge grin.) I bet Hillary laughed (or spit out her coffee) when she heard about it.
A friend called me yesterday to tell me she heard Hillary declared she was going to run and that Hillary was having fundraisers in NYC. I told her she had her information wrong but she said she heard it from several people and would not believe me. I told her the fundraiser was for Terry McAuliffe and gave her information about it and told her to look it up and that Hill said she wouldn’t even think about it for another year and was in no hurry to decide. My friend was so excited. It was a preview of the celebration feeling people will have IF she does declare. My friend wasn’t bummed out – she just put on her patience hat again and we both said “maybe, someday, hopefully, it is time, etc” as we looked at a potential future with a stellar world leader.
I love what Schumer said about the Tea party. I can see them running and hiding from her – like a cartoon that draws itself!!!

The Tea Party will poop themselves if she declares her candidacy…and I will party like nobody’s business!

Judging from the tone of this statement, other people pushing her and deciding for her is getting on her nerves. If they keep pushing too hard, they might be sorry. It is her personal decision to make, and as I said in an earlier post, she is not a game piece to be put on the board at the whim of other people. They need to back off. They are all making a big mistake.

They aren’t going to back off, they are doubling down. There are more and more seriously vaulted levels of “Hillary for President” stories and actions every day.
Does anyone remember the quote from Hillary from around 2007 or so when she said something about new senators following whatever Chuck says and does if they want to support the right causes and make the right moves? I thought of that when I heard what he said about her. She was right – Chuck is shrewd and knows a winner when he sees one. 🙂
Maloney and Ickes (he of “you bet your ass” PUMA ignition day) are holding a RFH event on 11/11. He will speak on how he is trying to convince her!

I wholeheartedly agree she has won the right to do as she pleases even if it is not to do what she was clearly put on this earth to do! She is the one but if she says no, so be it. We can have a decade or two more of men screwing things up and brawling in the aisles of congress for their ego sake.

I don’t remember seeing this before but likely did see it 20 years ago. It is from Halloween at the White House 1995. Bill and Hillary as country singers. Love it.

The worst challenge facing women and girls that prevent them from achieving their full potential is sexual violence. The majority of women and girls have the potential to prevent and protect themselves from sexual abuse but resources and especially funds are not available to run programs which can empower them. If the foundation is really wants to realize the No Ceilings project, then they should access funds to run programs with such initiatives especially in Africa and Asia where sexual abuse is so rampant. As one of the organizations providing practical solutions to rape in Kenya and Eastern Congo we would very much like to participate in doing this work in Africa and around the World if funded. We are known as Dolphin Anti rape and AIDS Control Outreach based in Nairobi Kenya.
