That a shot emanated from a female MSNBC anchor on Meet the Press while NBC covered Women’s Biathalon today is ironic. The implications are more insidious than anything the mundane minds at FOX News can invent.
When the plainly inimical FOX channel has a long-time Hillary Clinton supporter like Lanny Davis on and claims he cannot come up with a single thing she accomplished as Secretary of State, it is easily corrected by Davis himself. When the folks who are supposedly on her side come after her we begin to perceive a developing theme.
Today on MTP, Andrea Mitchell implied that Hillary used her post at the State Department to line up donors for a presidential campaign. I will not embed the video. The link is here. This is not only reprehensible behavior on the part of Mitchell but a dead giveaway of what is amounting to the MSNBC backlash against Hillary who has not said a word about running much to their frustration.
The idea that Hillary, a dedicated public servant, used her position for personal and political gain was first floated on Morning Joe by the father of one of the co-anchors, a noted progressive political consultant. Many Hillary Clinton loyalists do not trust Zbigniew Brzezinski. We expected better from Mitchell, but like the print journalists assigned to the Hillary Clinton beat (Maggie Haberman, Amy Chozick, and most recently, Brianna Keilar) girls just wanna have jobs. So we can expect that they will do as directed by management and aim and fire to avoid skiing the penalty loop.
For those who need their memories refreshed and those who never paid attention in the first place, here are just a few of Hillary’s accomplishments while at the helm of the State Department edited and reprinted from a previous post.
The State Department under Hillary Clinton did what it could in the face of a silent, hesitant President during the Green Revolution. Aware that people in the streets of Tehran and other cities were depending on Twitter to communicate life-and-death information and learning that Twitter intended to close down for maintenance, Hillary Clinton prevailed upon Twitter to leave the lines of communication open. They did, as those of us who spent those weekends retweeting important tweets from Iran can attest.
She was instrumental, as well, in getting hard sanctions against Iran which helped bring about the current detente.
From April until she fell ill in December of 2012 Hillary Clinton attended at least five meetings of the group called Friends of the Syrian People and was scheduled for another which she could not attend due to her illness. The Friends of the Syrian People have been working on international sanctions to divest Syria of chemical weapons and to assist the refugees of that civil conflict.
Hillary Clinton and Russia’s Sergei Lavrov worked exceedingly well together and achieved the very crucial New START treaty. This was immense, a great victory for both diplomats and both countries. Their relationship remained solid throughout her tenure.
Here are a few other things she did.
>For the first time in its history she completely overhauled the State Department , USAID, and interagency cooperation with her Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review (QDDR).
>For the first time in history she called all of the chiefs of mission together at the State Department for annual conferences.
>She instituted an Office of Global Women’s Issues.
>In June 2009 she provided benefits to domestic partners of foreign service diplomats for the first time.
>She brought previously neglected countries back to the table with numerous memoranda of understanding and countless business initiatives.
>She kept the alliance between Afghanistan and Pakistan stable despite enormous challenges.
>She reopened the vital supply route from Pakistan into Afghanistan.
>She ensured U.S. access to the vital Manas airstip in Kyrgystan.
>She Salvaged the Turkey-Armenia accords which she was supposed to simply witness when they suddenly nearly fell apart.
>She brought issues like human trafficking as well as violence against women and LGBT communities to the international table.
These are a few things that come to mind. I probably have left out some important events. Hillary Clinton has left an indelible mark on the State Department and has brought its operations into the 21st century with her integration of social networking into our outreach to the world. She was a tremendously effective Secretary of State and a hero to many, our own troops at war among them. We can be appreciative of her selfless service and proud of the job she has done.
To suggest that she, in any way, used her post for any gain beyond those for the country she served so patriotically is highly contemptible.
for someone like andrea mitchell to imply that is nothing short of appalling. what utterly amazes me is that so much criticism of hillary is made without the slightest bit of evidence to back it up. it really is clinton derangement syndrome.

It really is! She was on Hillary’s C-130 to Haiti when Hillary was the very first foreign official to go to Haiti five days after the earthquake. She should know better.

I agree totally with you guys. Andrea Mitchell’s reporting was biased against Hillary in 2008, and it still is. If she wants to look into abuses of office, she need look no further than her own news outlet. She and others at MSNBC abused their positions with their pro-Obama, ansi-Hillary reporting in 2008. They blatantly used their platforms to lie to voters and manipulate them. They reported warm, fluffy stories about Obama . They never delved into his background prior to running for POTUS, and they skewed info to give him the advantage. They misrepresented information about Hillary, and some of them made outrageously sexist statements about Hillary and Chelsea.
Andrea and several others at MSNBC should be ashamed to call themselves journalists. Of course, MSNBC only has about 12 regular viewers, so Andrea won’t be able to do all the damage she would like to do.

Exactly. It is like watching a rerun or more closely like reliving the same nightmare over again years later.
Mitchell and Mika and the like are going to fall back into their old CDS bull.
The most truthful report on Hillary from NBC in 2008 was the fantastic, bawdy, and funny SNL skit “bitch is the new black” and the most memorable line was “oh two intelligent people talking to each other, who would want that”
Of course, we have to forgive the use of the B word since it was comedy and it was otherwise worthy of a big Hell Yeah.
It was the NBC stores that were selling the Hillary nut crackers. Sickening.

Next time someone says “but whattabout Benghazi?” just tell them that the head of the CIA at the time thinks she handled it in a praise worthy way.

We didn’t get to see the CIA information in the unclassified, but he sure did.

I read an article earlier today with disturbing, albeit old, news/quotes/rumors from an old friend, now deceased, of the Clinton family. It is on Bacon site and is about Blairs documents from the early 90s. Not flattering, if true, but not fatal.
It is not widely covered and I don’t want to link to the site but it ruffled me a bit to read an insider saying much of what outsiders have accused them of for so long.
Much of it is even understandable considering the age and the heat of the times and much was learned and things have certainly changed for the better over the years. It doesn’t detract from accomplishments either – not one iota!
Just wanted to put this out there. I don’t see it being the last we hear of these papers, not by a long shot… Any thoughts from anyone who has read it?

It did come up on the Evening News with Brian Williams, and I have seen a flurry of related articles in my newsfeeds today. Once again it is a matter of chunks being taken out of context and is being circulated by parties inimical to the Clintons.
To me, this is not only “old news,” it does not rile me even half as much as what the liberal media is doing because that is not about tarnishing her legacy as FLOTUS (an embattled one on many sides to be sure) or as a Senator. They are kowtowing to the Republican attack on her stellar performance as SOS. That I cannot and will not abide. The rest is a little mud on the wheels. Even if she does not run again, what these media folks are doing – especially this latest theme from msnbc – distorts her legacy at State.

Sad to read and hear the garbage on MSNBC. Mika, Andrea and others make me sick. Andrea is two faced. Mika is into herself. MSNBC needs higher ratings so here we go again.

It’s all pretty pathetic. MSNBC has not learned from the 1000 apologies they have had to make, but they will learn they will!

The early 90s are pretty much ancient history.
Those documents have been available since 2010, and I guess the Washington Free Beacon — conservative, to put it mildly — went looking for muck.
But didn’t Diane Blair talk to Carl Bernstein for another book, years ago? I think this is old news.

She might have. Certainly it is old news.

Thanks for the comments. Some of it is old as I said above in the first line but some of it was new to me. When I read the Bacon piece it was not commented on elsewhere yet. Now I am sure Fox and the GOP are turning it into a scandal they can hype daily for 3. years.

I wonder why her friend took notes and why she didn’t destroy the more personal thoughts that Hillary entrusted her with during their conversations. It feels like a betrayal to me.

I know. But have you ever seen The Last Station? Apparently Hillary asked her to take notes as the countess asked Bulgakov. (And also Chertkov asked him to – they were very different notes – diaries.)

Yes, but I wonder if she asked her to record every conversation for years. I also wonder if she consulted with Hillary and asked her if it was OK to leave her papers to the university. She knew that she was ill, so it was not a sudden death. Se must have made plans about her possessions.

MSNBC is on the sexist attack again…what a bore. How do the women who work for them look at themselves in the mirror? In 2008, oddly the two guys who gave the most even handed reporting on Hillary were Joe and Pat Buchanan. They treated her with respect. Mikka and the supposed democrats were all carrying water for Obama of course.

I try to tune out the hounds. They are bored with the Obama presidency and are looking for fresh meat to pick on. They are the ones who keep pushing Hillary as “inevitable” and they are also the same ones who are chastising her for being “inevitable” and are now finding fault with her. The whole thing is ridiculous because Hillary hasn’t even announced whether she wants to run again. The media is basically creating a story out of thin air and then knocking her down as if SHE had been the one who created the story in the first place. It’s insane!!!!
