We already knew that Hillary could lose a shoe and recover as gracefully and adorably as Cinderella thanks to this incident at the Elysee Palace in January 2010 when then President Sarkozy successfully partnered her recovery of the lost slipper.
Today, while speaking at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries conference in Las Vegas, she demonstrated that she is as quick-thinking and fleet of movement as Derek Jeter when she dodged a shoe lobbed at her by a woman in the audience who was taken into custody. Reportedly, Hillary was not hit, and her hand-on-the-hip stance is as cool as that of any Major League short stop. You can almost envision the glove on her left hand. Note to all: She is as good at ducking flying objects as she is fielding all the pointless questions about 2016. She will speak about that when she is good and ready so stop the useless prodding.
A woman was taken into custody after hurling what she said was a shoe at Hillary Clinton during a Las Vegas speech — and the former secretary of state was quick with a witty comeback.
The bizarre incident happened just moments after Clinton took the stage Thursday at an Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries meeting at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino.
The former first lady, 66, ducked, but did not appear to be struck by the flying object. She quickly joked about the incident.
Clinton quipped: “Is that somebody throwing something at me? Is that part of Cirque du Soleil?”
She added: “My goodness, I didn’t know that solid waste management was so controversial. Thank goodness she didn’t play softball like I did.”
LAS VEGAS — Authorities have filed federal charges against a Phoenix woman accused of throwing a shoe on stage while Hillary Rodham Clinton gave a convention speech.
The trespassing and violence charges lodged Sunday against Alison Michelle Ernst in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas come as local prosecutors consider a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge in state court.
Ernst didn’t respond to a phone message Monday, and it isn’t clear if she has a lawyer.
HANDOUT / Reuters
Alison Ernst, 36, is seen in a booking photo released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in Las Vegas April 11, 2014.
The 36-year-old faces a June 24 court date on the local charge, which could get her a year in county jail stemming from the incident Thursday.
A court date in the federal case wasn’t immediately set. Clinton wasn’t struck by the shoe. She continued her speech to a recycling industry conference at the Mandalay Bay resort.
omg Hillary aced the joke! What a quick come back!!
yes, I was indeed reminded of other shoe related incidents… never did she have to dodge a woman’s shoe before.. shame on the one who threw it; I hope the person gets prosecuted.
I have a lot of misgivings about how security is being handled at these events. Of course there is always Secret Service, but also the venue and the organizers are responsible for some of it. In an article I found later last night, the organizers stated that the woman was not part of their organization and did not have a ticket! Well, then, how the heck did she get in?
How wonderful Hillary is to react always with grace, humor and getting back so soon to be the person she really is.The security is going to increase at her events, hopefully! For that irreverent woman, there are millions who love you Hillary!

@U.S. Senate: Time to ratify LOST!
"... ratify the Law of the Sea Convention, which has provided the international framework for exploring these new opportunities in the Arctic. We abide by the international law that undergirds the convention, but we think the United States should be a member, because the convention sets down the rules of the road that protect freedom of navigation, provide maritime security, serve the interests of every nation that relies on sea lanes for commerce and trade, and also sets the framework for exploration for the natural resources that may be present in the Arctic." -HRC, 06-03-12, Tromso Norway

Hillary is quick. Love her! Hope they prosecute, too.

I also hope they beef up security. That whacko shouldn’t have been allowed anywhere near Hillary.

Hillary handled the incident with grace and a sense of humor. I’m furious at the woman who threw the shoe, she could have hurt her.

It gets nasty out there. This is sad to me to show that much disrespect to a wonderful person like HRC. Let us hope this will not continue.
