How exciting! I cannot wait to see pictures. (And I totally called it about the timing…way back in April…I thought then that Chelsea looked as far along as I had been in April of the year my first child was born. My baby is turning 14 today.) Bill and Hillary are going to be fantastic grandparents, and little Charlotte will be very blessed.

I saw someone post Charlotte 2052. With her genetics, on both sides of the family, it could happen. Hopefully by then the idea of a female president in this country will not be ground and ceiling breaking.

Sorry if I missed the humor. Everyplace I had been all day, people were just celebrating the blessed event and not connecting it to politics. Guess I missed the boat there. No offense intended.
My head just was not there. A lifelong friend just around Hillary’s age and an ardent supporter of hers who lived in Arkansas, died suddenly and unexpectedly in her sleep of cardiac arrest on Sunday. There was no warning and no way to know this could happen to her. This little baby coming along the same week was such a blessing (!) and something of a little miracle. I guess my head was just not in a place for political humor right now.
Charlotte can/should do what she wants. If she wants to be an entomologist and conquer the anopheles and aedes aegypti and eliminate malaria, chikungunya, dengue (which I have had many times), and any future potential for yellow fever, she should go for that without any older people herding her into a corral.
If she wants to run for POTUS, she should do that. But she is only one day old – OK – two.
A reporter once asked Chelsea if she would run for governor of Arkansas. Chelsea responded, “I’m three!
Charlotte is not old enough to use that voice yet, but she is and has been listening. She has been the fly on the wall these past several months. She will know. She will decide what to do. I trust her to.
For now, though, I am happy enough to let her be the grandchild Hillary and Bill longed for, not a political icon, even in a joke or two. Not saying we can’t have fun or push agendas, just not on the back of an infant. That’s a pretty heavy backpack to carry.
Tomorrow arrives soon enough. Sometimes way too soon and without warning.

So sorry to hear about your friend, Still. As always you make great sense. For now, we need to let Charlotte be Charlotte. I’m sure that’s why all the twitpics show the joy on the faces of her parents and grandparents rather than her face. Very classy.
