   Anyone know anything about a group calling itself, HRC Super Volunteers? They have a Twitter account and have been contacting media warning about use of sexist code words to describe Hillary. If legit, I think this is a great idea. A large part of media’s animus toward Hillary is driven by institutionalized sexism in media culture. It was very overt last time, but the landscape has changed so much in just eight years (largely because of Hillary herself!) that they know they can’t get away with overt misogyny now. This group says they are on the lookout for code words and dog whistles. I say, hooray for them!

     It is legit but not tied to Hillary. It is the twitter group from Ready for Hillary. They are right to go after it from the get-go this time. The media would not treat male candidates like that, only women get called those things. I am still upset by the sexism of 07 and it must not be tolerated.

   I think we’re going to see a much more vigilant effort to combat sexism in the campaign – from hillary on down, which i applaud. the problem is so pervasive it needs to be called out repeatedly and unapologetically.

   Brassy, Karen – The group HRC Super Volunteers is a Facebook group. Tehy are not affiliated with Ready For Hillary (although there is lots of cross-pollination). These folks are mostly 2008 HillRaisers. (I belong to the group.)

   The Twitter handle HRC Super Vols is not affiliated with the FB group. It was created by an opportunist in the middle of this bruhaha.

   A member of the official FB group sent an email to a number of media outlets about their Hillary-speak. One writer mocked him on Twitter, which is how the media frenzy started.

       I don’t do either facebook or twitter but it seems to me, even after reading your post, that your facebook group of super volunteers was mimicked for twitter by Ready for Hillary. They do have all the offical RFH headers and what not but stole the idea of the name from your group. If so, it is all for the same cause so no biggie but if not, and if it is someone with nefarious ideas, then RFH should go after them for using their heading and your group should go after them for using a version of your groups name.

       I always wanted all the groups to join together and make one big Hillary group in 2007. There were too many splinter groups each with less impact than if there were just a few very large ones as there were in the O camp. There were 400 small websites for Hillary and that spread the weight of each site too thin and making them each seem like a handful of serious supporters only.

         Karen, the Twitter-spoof folks are unknown at this time. We know the Ready For Hillary folks and they didn’t do the Twitter spoof. Shoot–I can make MY Twitter page look like RFH if I want too because they have lots of available material. The spoofer didn’t have access to HRC Super Volunteer material because it is a private group.

         I suspect that once Hillary announces, people from various groups will recombine based on the kind of role they want to play in the campaign. Ready For Hillary is a SuperPAC whose role is to “encourage” Hillary to run by showing her that there’s lots of grassroots support. They are going to close the PAC once she announces and gift her with their mailing list. (I wonder what they’re going to do with that big bus…) HRC Super Volunteers is a reunion of HillRaiser folks from 2008 and they really do get out there. A few of the folks have already made transportation and hotel reservations for Iowa! Like I said, there is a lot of cross-pollination. Think back to the early days of the PUMA blogs, when folks would read most of the blogs but tend to comment at a handful and hang out at one or two.

           Well if it isn’t RFH then they are up to no good and should not be using that header. I just googled it and found a CBS piece from yesterday that is wrong. It conflates the facegroup and twitter group into one, so the first thing your group has to do is make it clear they aren’t the same. Also, perhaps your group can start a twitter with your full name so as to distinguish it from that other group who is usurping your long time credentials and RFH banner?

           We will have official groups soon enough! God and Hillary willing!

     I don’t know why she would have trouble, and I have no control over who comes on here, BUT I have had a world of tech troubles lately and I am not the only one. I did have a problem getting here to wordpress once recently. I had no problem with any other server – only this one. When I went to downrightnow.com I found a bunch of other people with the same problem All of them had the same provider as I; FIOS. I called and was on hold for 45 minutes and suddenly the server connected. Maybe others were calling to find out why they could not connect.
