As a long-time fan of BHL, I was delighted to find this excellent account of three meetings with Hillary whom he has long admired for reasons he makes crystal clear. I simply had to share this. I rarely come across a true must-read on a Sunday, but this is not to be missed.
Bernard-Henri Levy: Three encounters with Hillary Clinton
<April 25, 2015 | Op-ed — by Bernard-Henri Lévy
NEW YORK, NY – APRIL 23: Democratic presidential hopeful and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton addresses the Women in the World Conference on April 23, 2015 in New York City. Clinton is in New York City after visiting Iowa and New Hampshire. Andrew Burton/Getty Images/AFP
July 2004. Boston.
A downtown restaurant to which Tina Brown has invited Hillary Rodham Clinton and a handful of notables, including Caroline Kennedy, filmmaker Michael Moore, and former U.S. Senator George McGovern.
What is immediately striking is Mrs. Clinton’s youthful appearance. Her bright laugh. Her blue eyes, a little too round, that gaze at you with curiosity. Sometimes that gaze is briefly clouded by a streak of stifled pain, obstinate and not wholly contained. Five years earlier, she was the most humiliated wife in America, a woman whose feelings, reactions, privacy, and bed linens were scrutinized by everyone. So she can talk national and international politics until she is blue in the face. She can sing the praises of John Kerry, whom her party has just nominated in an effort to deny George W. Bush a second term. She can expound on her notion of the role of the senator from New York, a role with which she pretends to be content. Still there persists an idea (of dubious political correctness) that it is impossible to push out of one’s head, one that I, at any rate, cannot resist the temptation of entering into the travel journal that I am writing for The Atlantic.
Great read. She is such a wonk and so capable and admirable. Even a few republicans had to come right out and call her formidable. Remember at the end of the long primary, Rendell, I think it was, compared her to Rocky. This little bit of a woman is iron clad.

“Really? Hidden in a vegetable truck with him?” No matter how stressful the situation no matter the pressures placed on her, Hillary’s sense of humor and wit never leave her. This article also shows that she was well aware of the deep, intractable problems Libya was facing after Ghaddafi. Her detractors often make it sound like because Libya has not turned into a garden of democracy the policy she advocated was a failure. She well knew getting rid of the guy who was slaughtering his own people was just a beginning–far from the end.
Thanks so much, Still for posting this.

The Foundation has been explaining the “Cash” situation as well as her many defenders who are debunking the non-sense. The potential amended tax returns are not about amending the amount of money! All the money was accurately reported. There was possibly some minor accounting way of reporting that money and separating different sources of money that they want to clarify with the IRS. But nothing was “scandalous” or “improper”, it was merely an accounting blip. All money was accounted for. NEXT.

Exactly. Much ado about nothing.

As I understand it, amending these tax filings is extremely common. But the media immediately rushes to present it as something nefarious.
I’ve been ignoring the media so much of late that I’m missing important news such ss the devastating earthquake in Nepal. My heart goes out to the victims and survivors.

still, Thanks for sharing this awesome read. Great to read. just one place where I thought the author implied that she did not know she was leaving Pres.Obama administration? Well, she had made it abundantly clear that she was leaving at the end of the first term…
I agree, she would make a great President.. and a great friend to Ukraine.

[…] Bernard-Henri Levy published a wonderful tribute to her. I am his longtime fan, and he is hers! (One reason I like him so much.) Martha Stewart said she is for “the lady that is running.” She made it clear that she was not referring to Fiorina. […]
