Thank you, Rumana Alvi, for these great pictures!
Friend —
I learned the meaning of Memorial Day from my father, Hugh.
During World War II, my dad was a chief petty officer at the Great Lakes Naval Station outside of Chicago, responsible for training thousands of sailors before they went to the Pacific Theater. Sometimes, my dad accompanied his trainees to the West Coast before they shipped out. He told me later that it broke his heart to know that some of them would never come home.
When my dad died twenty-two years ago, many sailors who had served under him sent me letters and photographs. My favorite photo shows my dad in his uniform smiling broadly. To me, he looked as handsome as any 1940s movie star. It meant a great deal to me that these men took time to honor my dad, the same way my dad taught us to honor those who fell in the line of duty.
Today, I hope we’ll all take a moment to remember the many men and women who gave their lives to protect our country. These brave Americans knew that freedom is earned by each new generation.
My thoughts today are with those families whose sons and daughters sacrificed so much so that all our children can be safe. I hope all of us will honor their memories with our own service to our country, and to each other.
Thank you,
Hillary
We have a sacred responsibility to those who serve and sacrifice for this country—today we remember and honor the values they fought for. -H

Great pics! Thanks so much!
Comments thread just disappeared on last post. I was just replying to Karen’s news that Jeb is building a house at the Bush property in Kennebunkport. If he registers to vote there, it provides a loophole to 12th amendment.

Could someone explain the significance of Jeb building a house in Maine? I’m confused.

If he wants to run with Rubio, one of them must have legal residence in state other than Florida since both candidates can’t be residents of the same state. It’s prohibited by 12th amendment of Constitution.

Ah. Thanks. 🙂

So he wants Rubio to be his running mate enough to do this? Yikes!

He may realize the only way he can get the nomination is if he can convince Rubio to make it a package deal. I don’t think Rubio would go for it since he figures he can get the top spot on his own. Or maybe Bush just wants a house in Kennebunkport. He’d have to live there almost year round to make it his legal residence. His wife would probably object to living in such a cold place. I’m guessing he just wants a summer home and there’s no connection to Rubio.

Who wouldn’t mind a summer home in Kennebunkport? And a boat? It did snow up that way a few days ago though.

9 months till the primaries start and she has such support already.
This is payback for all the times THEY said she was acting inevitable last time – when she wasn’t acting that way. She still isn’t taking it for granted but holy smokes, this is like walking into the convention in a year from now without a thing in the way. Her endorsement list started before she even announced… and she didn’t have her kick off yet.
Feel the love Hillary. We are going to ROAR for her – proud and loud.

Great pix, guys! I was thinking about going this morning but decided it would be way too crowded.
Karen, by this time last time, we’d already had a debate!
