I have mentioned, more than once, George Lakoff’s frustration with Democrats for failing to own the framing of issues. I know a lot of people think he is long-winded (yes, he rants), and that a linguist has no business commenting on politics. Actually, in European culture, traditional linguistic analysis began with the ancient Greeks exactly because they had a democratic political system. How did you think the candidates figured out which speeches worked best and why?
As I was perusing the newsfeeds, I noticed that articles about this decision are using the term “marriage equality.” This is the Democratic frame. It would be easier for Republicans to argue against “gay marriage.” It is a lot harder for them to “come out” against equality. 🙂
The Democrats own this one. We finally won the framing contest! George Lakoff, this Bud’s for you!
Hillary takes the wheel and drives this one … all the way to 1600 in ’16.
A proud day.

And let them explain their opposition to love winning.
Love and equality. Fight that!

The GOP framing of the issue is peculiar. Notice they complain that people who favor marriage equality are trying to “redefine marriage”, as if we are not a nation of laws but a nation of dictionaries.

The White House looks awesome bathed in a rainbow of lights too because it is for all the people, the way it was designed to be.
The dem dinner in Virginia turned into a Clinton rally last night according to Politico.
“While the event was not intended to be a Clinton rally, it quickly turned into one as speaker after speaker praised the former secretary of state in front of the crowd of around 2,000. She was introduced by her longtime friend Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who himself spoke after Democratic Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine — who also left no doubt about where their political loyalties lie.”

Yes, the WH looks lovely, but as a NYer (expat living in CT), they are newcomers to this–and have nothing on the Empire State Building!

The internet is very colorful all over. Hillary’s camaign has a short clip of her staffers celebrating at the announcement moment – lots of feeling in this campaign – as contrasted to the R campaigns… they were crying too! Not tears of JOY!

James Carville is asking for donations. Seems like old times to see his name in my in the inbox again. How can I refuse – he’s talking about putting wheels on the Hillary wagon and yelling HEY at us. Afterall, he is a true PUMA male.

Completely off topic, but today is our three year anniversary of the Great Tiger Lily Relay. She’s still adorable and I’m still grateful.

I am leaving for a Hillary event in a minute and just checked in before I go to see what Hillary is up to.
That makes my night. What a lovely lady she is now that all the tiny cute bits are all grown up. She has that spunky girl look about her, clearly. 🙂
