Over seven years of blogging about Hillary Clinton and finding friends among fellow supporters, I have noticed a common thread in the camp. Many Hillary loyalists are not only pet parents but also are involved in rescue and shelter efforts. It is not surprising, then, that this issue came up today.

NEWTON, Iowa – It was not the Iran deal, or her private email server, that a woman at a crowded coffee shop wanted to question Hillary Rodham Clinton about on Sunday.
It was mistreatment of puppies.
“When you become president, this is what I would like you to do,” the woman told the former secretary of state. “I would like to see every single dog and cat mill across the country shut down.”
SNIP
“I share your concern about these mills,” Mrs. Clinton responded. “From everything I know about them, they really are terrible places for any animal, and particularly for dogs and cats.” She added, “We do need to do more.”
As for animal cruelty, Mrs. Clinton said, “I think for some egregious examples, and there are some, they would rise to a felony.”

It is a coincidence that this issue arises on the same day when, posting a blog article earlier, I was shocked to see puppies for sale in the sidebar of my Facebook page. In typical NYT fashion, Kaplan has missed the larger issue. Puppies are among the more mobile populations in these inhumane mills. Healthy puppies have a way out by being sold. It is the breeding adults, mostly females, who spend their lives in squalid cages forced to deliver litter after litter who are the saddest victims.
There is a metaphor here. We all love puppies and kittens. Who doesn’t? We spend online time looking at them when we are stressed out or whatever. The question and the issue is not about the puppies. Women know that. Hillary does.
A person I know well is related to the Clinton dog walker/caretaker. They love Hillary and Bill and the animals. It is obvious how much they love their pets.
The “read more” link to the Times is broken. But I really shouldn’t give them any traffic anyway. They are still on my poop list.
I feel terrible because I had to tell the animal rescue I will volunteer again after November 2016 but until then I will be busy!
It’s great that Hillary mentioned how cruel puppy mills can be. As a puppy mill activist, I have some concerns about her being able to crack down on mills. First, she was endorsed by Tom Vislack, head of the USDA. The USDA is currently ignoring minor mill violations, therefore not enforcing the Animal Welfare Act. The USDA does a terrible job at enforcement and even said they feel sorry for the breeders who won’t be able to sell to pet stores if they have violations. In the documentary Dog by Dog, big agriculture companies are named-Monsanto, Cargill, Smithfield, Tyson, as lobbying to defeat state laws that would make living conditions better for dogs in mills. Would Hillary be willing to go up against big agriculture companies? Other animal welfare advocates have the same concerns.
Hillary goes up against anybody and is a fighter. Of course she would.
She has 18 million voters and thousands of endorsements from famous people. She has a massive phone book with people across the planet of all kinds. It doesn’t mean she backs what they say or do 100%.
She is her own person and if she takes on a fight she doesn’t care how big the opponent is. She might be little but woe to any who stand in her path when she is on a mission!

@U.S. Senate: Time to ratify LOST!
"... ratify the Law of the Sea Convention, which has provided the international framework for exploring these new opportunities in the Arctic.
