When I started my life in public service four decades ago, it was to tear down the barriers that hold people back from developing their talents and achieving their dreams. That’s what I’m still fighting for today.

But more than half a century after Rosa Parks sat and Dr. King marched and John Lewis bled, race still plays too big a part in determining who gets ahead in America—and who gets left behind.

In America today, one in three Black men will go to prison in their lifetime. African American women earn 64 cents and Latina women 56 cents for every dollar a White man earns. African Americans are nearly three times more likely to be denied a mortgage as whites. The median Black family has just eight percent the wealth of the median White family. Two-thirds of children living in poverty today are African American or Latino. And Black children are 500 percent more likely to die from asthma than White kids.

It is not the first time a publication has approached the topic of a Hillary Clinton Doctrine. As early as 2009, when she began outlining what she called 21st Century Statecraft, a doctrine began to emerge. About halfway through her tenure, news sources began exploring the topic.

On Jan. 13, 2011, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave what turned out to be a remarkably prescient speech in Doha, Qatar. “The region’s foundations are sinking into the sand,” she warned. If you do not manage to “build a future that your young people will believe in,” she told the Arab heads of state in the audience, the status quo they had long defended would collapse. The very next day, Tunisia’s dictator was forced to flee the country. Almost two weeks later, hundreds of thousands of Egyptians thronged Cairo’s Tahrir Square demanding that then-President Hosni Mubarak step down. Over the following week, Clinton and her colleagues in the Barack Obama administration engaged in an intense debate over how to respond to this astonishing turn of events. Should they side with the young people in the streets demanding an immediate end to the deadening hand of autocratic rule, or with the rulers whom Clinton had admonished, but who nevertheless represented a stable order underpinned by American power and diplomacy?

Jimmy held a Kids’ Forum at the beginning of the show on the topic of a woman president. Hillary joined in and took notes.

With the host, she addressed issues and a few of her GOP opponents. She said she did indeed attend Trump’s wedding and might watch him on the upcoming SNL. If they return to the White House, WJC keeps the remote. She has no idea what a former POTUS as First Spouse would be called. She will not ask him to pick a china pattern, but would ask for other advice. If HRC were running against WJC, would she win? Yeah!

How I Would Reaffirm Unbreakable Bond With Israel — and Benjamin Netanyahu

We have recently marked the 20th anniversary of the assassination of then Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, a good friend, a courageous warrior and a great statesman. This somber anniversary, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington on November 9, is an opportunity to reaffirm the unbreakable bonds of friendship and unity between the people and governments of the United States and Israel.

The alliance between our two nations transcends politics. It is and should always be a commitment that unites us, not a wedge that divides us.

Ever since President Truman waited only 11 minutes to recognize the new nation of Israel in 1948, Americans have believed that Israel is more than a country — it’s a dream nurtured for generations and made real by men and women who refused to bow to the toughest odds.

‘The Diplomat’ Premieres on HBO

When President Obama first asked Hillary Clinton to be secretary of state, she not only declined, she immediately suggested that Richard Holbrooke would be a much better choice. Like Bill Clinton, who had to propose three times before she would accept marriage, Barack Obama had to ask several times before she accepted the cabinet position. But she had conditions. One was that at-risk regions required special attention and needed special advisers. Holbrooke was brought into the administration as special adviser on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Holbrooke died during Hillary’s tenure at DOS, and his son, David, has made a documentary about his father’s remarkable life and career called The Diplomat. It premiered tonight on HBO and is excellent. Both Bill and Hillary Clinton were interviewed extensively along with many who worked with Holbrooke. I give it five stars. Don’t miss it! It is a must see!

One of the diplomatic tragedies of Bill Clinton’s administration depicted in this documentary occurred when Holbrooke was attempting to broker peace in the in the Balkans. A vehicle carrying three members of our negotiation team rolled off a very dangerous road on the way to Sarajevo. It tumbled down a mountain, hit a land mine, caught fire, and killed the occupants.

At a campaign stop in Iowa, Hillary got asked an unexpected foreign policy question about unexploded bombs in Laos—leftovers from the Vietnam War.

Hillary’s answer shows exactly what it would mean to have a former secretary of state in the Oval Office.

The documentary emphasizes Holbrooke’s belief in the lessons of history. We should remember these going forward. There is much unfinished business from our engagement in Southeast Asia. We may call it the Viet Nam War, but it was larger. Incursions into Cambodia, which Richard Nixon announced saying it was “not an invasion,”and carpet-bombing in Laos are witness to the breadth of the conflict and damage left behind. Hillary Clinton knows and respects the lessons of Viet Nam.
