Jennifer shared this with me. Interesting analogy. This may account for some polls (which I take with huge doses of rock salt) re: progressive men. It does not account for millennial women who also say Yes to a woman but No to Hillary with the codicil: If only she were Black; If only she were Latina; If only she were a lesbian….” Really??? (Hillary does not go around making a big deal of this, but her maternal great-grandmother was part Perche. I once saw a picture of Hillary’s mother, Dorothy Howell Rodham, with her own grandmother – unmistakably Native American.)
Perhaps this is the mentality behind what is happening among progressive men. Certainly worth a look.
Bernie Sanders Is a Progressives’ Great Male Hope
If Hillary Clinton thinks she is destined to be the president, they’ll find a man to stop her.
The Great Male Hope
In 1910, the writer Jack London revealed white America’s fear of changing racial dynamics. The Heavyweight boxing champion at the time was Jack Johnson, an African American, who kept winning fights with white boxers. Nervous white people in the boxing world, and in the media, felt they needed to stop this black man from infiltrating their club. They convinced a retired white prize-fighter, James Jeffries, to come down off the farm and beat Johnson.
In the run up to the match, billed as the fight of the century, Jack London wrote, “It’s up to you, Jeff, to save the white race.”
Jeffries was known as the Great White Hope who would set things right in a changing America. Many people thought that a white man beating Johnson would symbolize that whites were still on top.
Today in the first quarter of the 21st century we find ourselves in a similar place: another perceived as an outsider – a woman – is knocking on the door of the Oval Office. It’s Hillary Clinton and she not only has all the liberal credentials, she has the most experience of all the candidates running. But there is resistance in the Democratic ranks. One reason given is vague: “I want a woman president, just not her.”
Sue me if you want, but I am still in shock and awe and Bernie was even allowed into the Democratic tent for a primary. He is not a Democrat. But that’s just me.
Please join Hillary in helping the Flint Child Health & Development Fund if you can >>>>
Perhaps one of the reasons he was allowed in the Dem primary is fear that he would run as an independent if he weren’t. And if it weren’t Bernie, it would’ve been some other man. Also, if the Dem primaries were only open to Dems, she’d win easily. And I suspect some of the independents voting for Bernie are only doing so to stop Hillary. They have no intention of voting for him in the GE.

I guess it’s moot whether he would have done much damage running Indy.

Thank you, Still! It seems I have more in common with Hillary than I even knew.
My paternal great grandparents were Quebecois who eventually settled in the Kewenaw peninsula of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. And my paternal grandmother’s family were Irish Catholics who settled near Windsor, Ontario in Canada. Eventually, both grandparents made their way to Detroit where I was born. So I share a strong Canadian heritage with Hillary, although I have no idea if I have any Native American heritage. I have never seen this family tree before. It’s fascinating and informative!

I wish I had snatched that picture when I saw it! I was being overwhelmed with material and information at the time and figured I would always be able to find it again, and I never have.
