Susan Bordo, author of The Destruction of Hillary Clinton, has chimed in on the pre-publication “reviews” of Hillary Clinton’s upcoming memoir. While Hillary’s book will not be released until September, alt-right psychics and soothsayers are already anticipating the content and critiquing the unpublished work.

What Keeps Happening: On the media’s preemptively panning Hillary Clinton’s new book
by Susan Bordo
The book hasn’t even come out yet, but it is already being “reviewed” in the conservative press. A small sampling: Damon Linker, in the Week: “There is not a chance in the world that Clinton’s memoir will frankly examine and reflect on the true causes of her catastrophic defeat.” Matt Vespa, in Town Hall, predicts the book will be “an extended version of her alternative history in which Russia, the FBI, the media, the DNC, and Republicans all conspired to torpedo her presidential ambitions.” Stephen L. Miller, of Fox News, actually goes as far as to state unequivocally that the book “definitely won’t tell you what really happened.” The book’s title itself—What Happened—has been described as “ridiculous” by Bre Payton of The Federalist, implying that it’s pure hubris for Clinton to claim that knowledge; she then produces examples of the most vicious take-down tweets of the cover.
Describing a book without even having read it is a ploy familiar to those of us who teach, and I really don’t expect any better from the conservative press than a version of “Clinton CliffsNotes.” I was taken aback, however, when Chris Matthews of Hardball sneered at the press description that Clinton, in the book, would be describing the multiple “forces” that she had to contend with during the election. “Forces?” I remember him asking. His scrunched-up face signaled skepticism over the choice of such a volcanic image. Let’s not go too far here, implied Matthews (who in 2008 described Clinton as “witchy” and “a she-devil”), she wasn’t exactly an innocent Dorothy swept up by powerful winds.
Bordo states, “What’s so startling, however—even to someone like me who has followed the twists and turns of Hillary-hating for decades—is its persistence during the nine months since the election.” It is remarkable. Just last night, Trump generated a “lock her up” chant at a rally in West Virginia. I do not remember any president continuing to disparage an opponent so long after an election.
On the other hand, since the 2008 election I have been part of a large, tight network of Hillary supporters who have remained close-knit for almost 10 years and counting. I do not recall any candidate retaining such an active, passionate support base after losing a nomination.
We were ready when, in April 2015, Hillary said, “Go!” We had never left training camp after 2008. We had kept up with her, followed her through the State Department, her speaking tours, and her book signings. We were ready for Hillary.
Testament to the campaign Hillary ran in which we all participated was the enormous popular vote she won. When you outdo your opponent by nearly three million votes, you can hardly be called a loser. Obviously other forces were at work to bring you down.
That is Hillary’s story to tell. Her team looks forward to her book tour and to reading what she has to say about her historical run in her own words.
I look forward to reading Mrs. Clinton’s book. It is my opinion that many people dislike her because of what they’ve been told , not what they took time to learn. People demonize her yet weren’t alive when her career began. Her resume rivals many – however, people find so much to discriminate against. It is my hope that one day this will change not only for Mrs. Clinton but for other women world wide.

Here I go again! I just sent an e-mail to Schumer’s office with a link to Susan Bordo’s article. I, again, gave him a piece of my mind about his and other dems disparaging Hillary while embracing sanders. I even told him if he could find one “perfect” representative or senator then they could throw stones at Hillary, but to otherwise, shut up!
I am so committed to outing this derangement syndrome that continues against Hillary. Patriarchy will continue unless we remain resolved in stopping it once and for all. Patriarchy is wrong and should no longer be accepted, period. Trump is the primary reason we must not give up!

I agree with all the above comments. I have been here with this team since 2008. Trump better soon stop the bashing. He makes me sick. We will never stop watching her back. I can not wait for her book tour. I will wait in line for days just to see and meet our hero. God Bless Hillary and all who follow her.

The reason the abuse continues to this day from all quarters is the growing evidence that Trump is not the legitimate president which inevitably means that Hillary is. This is knowledge that certain people simply cannot process.

I never want to hear about likability again. The most unlikable person on the planet is occupying the WH.

Great comments all!
What we are facing is the patriarchy’s last ditch effort to stop women from ever obtaining equal power with men. Obviously, putin was clearly afraid of Hillary being president and he pulled out all the stops to ensure a trump victory, or at the least, cripple a Hillary presidency with all of the “real” fake news being spewed about her throughout the campaign. Men in power know that any woman seeking the most powerful position in the world would be required to meet impossible standards they could NEVER meet, while simultaneously lowering the bar so low, it disappeared, when they nominated trump. They do this to ensure that men (even a man like trump) would retain the most powerful position in the world. Powerful men know that women can easily and without reservation be criticized, without fear of retribution that we are seeing when the repugs finally spoke out, not against trump’s sexually predatory nature (and probably sexual assault), his ad nauseum, provably lies, his racism and authoritarian nature, but when trump dare question one of the bros’, sessions. This, in and of itself, is a huge red flag that the bros will only speak out when it affects one of the bros. NEVER for a mere woman. Just look how they treated Collins and Murkowski. They didn’t do that to McCain. Again, they were silent when McCain came in to vote NO only after Collins and Murkowski had ensured a victory that would make him a “hero!”
What schumer, et al. are doing is ensuring that they would not be blamed for her loss and for obscuring that it was Obama’s lack of action when he knew that the Russians were tampering with the election and even hacking over 21 states would not be blamed for the loss. Obama chose to protect his legacy rather than do the right thing and let the American people know what was going on behind the scenes with the Russians and their meddling in our elections process. In retrospect, it is Obama who should be criticized for his inaction by allowing the russians to continue unabated until it was too late and NOT Hillary. They try to maintain the lame argument that she did not run a good campaign. What man ever has? Again, the double standard that continues even with our so-called progressive brothers.
This is how patriarchy protects itself and remains in power. Our country is going down the tubes because of the mindset that the majority of men have which is they would rather destroy the village than have a woman in charge of it. The village is on its last leg and we better stop the patriarchy before they succeed in destroying America. Are we willing to let the patriarchy destroy our country or are we willing to fight for it? That is the question we have to answer for ourselves. Me, I would rather go down fighting tooth and nail, rather than sit passively on the sidelines wringing my hands.
