The organizers at iVote worked with partners on the ground to get automatic voter registration on the ballot in Nevada in 2017. 450 brand-new civic leaders and activists attended The Arena’s very first summit — and they’re on track to train 5,000 people by the end of 2018. At the Alliance for Youth Action, young people are using local organizing to address economic inequality, attacks on voting rights, and more. The team at Latino Victory Fund is working to elect more Latino candidates at every level of government. More than 400 students and leaders met last month at the Voto Latino Power Summit to share resources and tools for national advocacy. And with the help of Collective Future, 23 African-American candidates have been elected to local, state, and federal offices since August 2016.
Along with Indivisible, Color of Change, Emerge America, Swing Left, and Run for Something, I know these groups will continue to do the incredible work of making our democracy stronger in 2018, and I’m proud to be on their team. There is no legal basis for these new investigations of Hillary and the CF, just as there was no basis the last time. The difference now is that instead of controlling a faction within the FBI, an authoritarian regime and its allies now control the entire US government and increasingly control the courts as well. I am terrified. People are mostly shrugging this off since we know there is nothing for any investigation to find. This is well established, not just from the last fishing expedition but going back 25 years . But this complacency misses the point. A regime which can investigate anyone for no reason can indict, convict, and jail for no reason. They are serious. They fully intend to “lock her up”. And Democrats in Congress apparently intend to sit idly by just as they did during the the concocted “email scandal”. And the media will lap it all up. As Joy Reid tweeted yesterday, Lord have mercy!
We’re the frog in the boiling water that doesn’t know enough to jump out. This is not the rule of law anymore. The U.S. government is investigating individuals and a charity searching for a crime with NO evidence that one has been committed. They are just investigating certain people because they want to which means they can manufacture evidence if they want to. And they do.

I don’t think enough people are taking it seriously to have such a plan. Just this morning, Joe Conason, whom I love and think is very smart, told Joy Reid that it’s just a “pretend” investigation to mollify Trump and the rabid Hillary haters. He said it will come up empty like all the others. Only at the end, when Joy pressed him on the possibility that the investigation will gin something up, did he acknowledge that then all our liberty will be gone. 🚨🚨🚨
I believe in hoping for the best, but I agree we should be planning for the worst. I hope the whole Clinton family is.

I think what Brassy is saying is that all of this is in danger of being suspended under this administration. One can argue that DJT swore to protect and defend the Constitution. He did. But he is subverting it, and we all see that. Yet there is no action by the Republican Congress and Senate – all of whom have folded for him – and they are the majority. With Collins and Graham on his side and McCain ill, there are no voices left on their side to rein him in. He owns them, and none of them will stand against him. We have become an autocracy.

For the record, I am sure Oprah would make a far, far better president than Donald Trump. But can we please stop pushing the idea of celebrities running for president? This is madness.
On another note, am I the only person in America who did not know that Kirk Douglas raped Natalie Wood when she was 14? And they gave him a standing O last night at Golden Globes! I don’t ever want to hear anyone comment again on what a mess Natalie was as an adult. To be a civilized society we have many, many miles to go.
