GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A celebration of First Lady Betty Ford’s centennial birthday brought out big names and big crowds to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park near Grand Rapids Wednesday.
Former First Lady, U.S. Sen., Secretary of State and Democratic nominee for president Hillary Clinton was among the people who joined in praise of Ford.
The celebration was also a testimony the positions Ford took, which many see as groundbreaking.
“In my opinion, (Ford) was one of the most transformational Americans in the last half of the 20th century. I didn’t say first ladies, I said Americans,” Clinton said.
Hillary Clinton: America needs people with ‘bedrock values,’ like Betty Ford

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Former first lady, secretary of state and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton brought a message of cooperation to Michigan this week.
Talking about a recent conversation with Mike Pompeo, President Donald Trump’s nominee to replace Rex Tillerson as secretary of state, Clinton said she was happy to talk to Pompeo despite the fact he once, as a congressman, called her “morally reprehensible” in connection with the deadly 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya.
“I think we’ve got to get back to talking to each other and more importantly listening to each other,” Clinton said. “We can’t allow the partisanship and politicization of everything to interfere with our national interests.”
Clinton was a featured guest for a special event honoring the legacy of first lady Betty Ford held at Frederick Meijer Gardens Wednesday, April 11.
I respect and admire Ronan Farrow, but I am genuinely puzzled by media commentators who are treating his New Yorker series on The National Enquirer acting as an arm of the Trump campaign in 2016 as ground-breaking journalism. I’m just some schmuck out here in fly-over country who goes grocery shopping every week and cannot avoid the National Enquirer. However, I knew early on, during the primaries, that it was this tabloid’s mission to elect Trump and destroy Hillary. In fact, I worried about the increasingly rabid headlines accusing Hillary of all kinds of criminal conspiracies while painting Trump as a working class hero. People absorb this stuff even if they dismiss it. And week after week of garbage staring you in the face at the super market check out requires the average shopper to ignore a great deal. I think this was another serious blow to Hillary’s reputation, but it has received no attention. The only real revelation by Farrow is the pattern of pay offs to people with any kind of damaging info on Trump by the Enquirer. But even this was hinted at in a profile of the tabloid’s owner that ran last year, also in the New Yorker I think.
The bottom line? The National Enquirer’s role in aiding and abetting Trump is no surprise to me, and I can’t imagine it surprises anyone who went grocery shopping on a regular basis during the 2016 presidential campaign.

There is no liberal counterpart to Rush Limbaugh et al., Fox News, the National Enquirer. It’s really all one-sided and the mainstream media and its false equivalency of Trump and Clinton did further damage. (How the hell can the two of them be equated???) I sometimes wonder how she managed to withstand all that crap with one arm tied behind her back – not to mention the wikileaks and Russian bots. And people really believed all the garbage about Hillary. I have intelligent friends who were sucked into it. I have come to the conclusion the electorate sorely lacks critical thinking skills. It’s the dumbing down of America. It’s disgraceful.

Odd how things we knew 2-3 years ago somehow get recycled as breaking news. Sometimes it makes me think I made stuff up.

I also want to tell Jon Favreau, who uses Lanny Davis’ cameo appearance in Farrow’ s latest piece to take a shot at Hillary’s choice of friends, that I’m old enough to remember some of President Obama’s buddies like Tony Rezko, the Rev. Wright, and the golfing partner who was arrested for soliciting hookers. Guilt by association can be used to tar anyone. Let’s leave this particular hypocrisy to Republicans.
