Hillary Clinton has always stood up for labor. On this holiday, she tweeted energetically to clarify how damaging a Kavanaugh appointment would be to workers.
Happy Labor Day. There's no better time to talk about why workers’ rights would suffer if Brett Kavanaugh, whose hearings for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court start tomorrow, is confirmed.
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) September 3, 2018
The Roberts Court has dealt some big blows to workers and unions in the last few years. With Kavanaugh on the Court, a 5-4 hard-right majority would be even more aggressive in siding with corporations over people.
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) September 3, 2018
The Court's ruling in Janus v. AFSCME earlier this summer overturned a 40-year-old precedent to hold that public-sector workers with union contracts don't have to pay fees for collective bargaining expenses if they're not members.
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) September 3, 2018
That ruling won't just hurt seven million public-sector union workers with contracts. It'll hurt all workers, because union deals on wages and working conditions affect what businesses without unions do, too.
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) September 3, 2018
The Court has also recently granted corporations the right to deny workers reproductive health care and made it harder for workers to sue businesses by allowing companies to force employees to sign mandatory arbitration clauses with their contracts.

In other words, the Court has already been widening the disparity in power between corporations and workers. Kavanaugh's record from his time as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia shows he'd help further that trend for a generation.

In 2007, Kavanaugh wrote an opinion that severely limited union rights and allowed major damage to federal workers' ability to bargain collectively.

In 2014, he dissented in a case where the Occupational Safety and Health Administration held SeaWorld accountable for the death of a trainer.
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) September 3, 2018
In 2016, Kavanaugh held that corporations have the right to punish workers for displaying pro-union signs in their cars.

Unions and labor movements are why we have workplace safety precautions, collective bargaining, weekends, minimum wages, and, yes, Labor Day.
We can't afford more damage to workers' rights. Make sure your senators hear from you: Let's #StopKavanaugh.

Thanks for posting. So glad she is weighing in on this critical issue. Brilliant as per usual.

Even as a private citizen she has a great deal to offer. People who keep insisting she run for POTUS again take note!
Also people need to stop trying to make Biden and Bernie happen. Time for the next generation to step up!

I understand that there is no constitutional mechanism for making Hillary POTUS, even though she got more votes than anyone running–by a lot. But now, after reading about Bob Woodward’s new book on the Trump regime, I am poring over my copy of the constitution looking for the constitutional mechanism which authorizes presidential staffers and Cabinet officials to work around the person who did assume the office under highly questionable circumstances because they rightly believe that he is a danger to said constitution, to the republic, and to every living being in the nation, even though these officials did not receive a single vote from anyone. In other words, if there was a coup on November 8, 2016, we are now in an ongoing secondary coup by White House staff who sneak around removing papers from the presidential desk and routinely assuring the alleged president that they will do things they have absolutely no intention of doing. And now we’re supposed to confirm a nominee for a lifetime SCOTUS appointment after he was tapped by this chaotic, illegitimate, and extra-constitutional double coup. I just have to ask. At this point, wouldn’t it be more in keeping with the constitution to throw all these bums out of the White House and inaugurate Hillary? Well, wouldn’t it?

We are so completely dedicated to the bizarre and unique among world democracies Electoral College that we go to this extent in the land of make believe to accommodate a spectacularly dangerous president. You are right, Brassy, this has all the earmarks of a coup, and we had all better hope and pray that they can keep him under control. It is completely abnormal. Trump thinks the Dead Presidents are haunting him in the White House.
I think we were in a similar situation during Reagan’s 2nd term, but we were not so aware of it. His aides were largely in control. But neither Melania nor Ivanka is Nancy Reagan. We’re in deeper doo-doo now.

Brassy Rebel,
I truly wish that there was some mechanism which could be put into action that would place Hillary in the white house. But the old white men who control the levers of power would never allow it, if there were. She did win by a huge margin and I am convinced that the russians hacked the votes in those 3 states which gave trump the electoral vote by 60,000 votes. TRUMP DID NOT WIN! I go crazy EVERYTIME I hear the media say trump “beat” Hillary when we all know that trump stole the election and was not only aided by the Russians but by the media in stealing it.. the media will never admit that they were complicit with the Russians in making certain he was placed in the oval office. Hell, mika brezinski is still harping about Hillary’s emails!!! We can all agree that if Hillary had won in such a way that the media and congress would have demanded a recount and placed trump in the white house. even a crook like trump is treated with more respect that an extraordinary woman like Hillary. Tells you just how far we still have to go for women to be given the same respect as men, doesn’t it?
Now these same old white guys are going to put a person like Kavanaugh (the equivalent of a trump in the white house) on the supreme court to ensure that their benefactors (big business) are well taken care of and the common man be damned. Such irony that so many men support trump and his corrupt administration, since they will suffer right along with us womens! Sadly, they will NEVER admit that they were wrong in their blind support of trump, et al. clearly, the patriarchy is having a “nervous breakdown” and are willing to destroy the village in order to maintain control of it.
As much as I wish Hillary was in the White House (she is officially president), these dick heads would have done everything they could to destroy her administration’s efforts to help the middle class. They would do anything (and I mean anything) to ensure that she would not be successful. That’s how low this country has gone.
I hope that all of the women running for office will win in the primaries. We need women now more than ever to counter the male strangle hold on power and the demise of our country. After all, women have been cleaning up after men since the beginning of time.

People keep saying none of this is normal. What they should be saying is that it is not LEGITIMATE, but, as you so correctly point out, that would lead to the conclusion that Hillary is the legitimate president. So now we have this charade in which we are supposed to pretend that Trump is president, but unelected bureaucrats will save us from him by acting as presidents and intervening to prevent whatever disaster he initiates. Certainly, none of this is even close to normal. It’s not even on the same planet as normal. But the root of the problem is that Trump and everyone who works for him are not legitimate presidents. Even elected Democrats won’t say this. So the charade continues. I agree with you about the need for more women and also POC in power. The damage being done under this regime is incalculable, and, I fear, may be permanent if something doesn’t change very soon.
