Just in case there are any questions about why this happened, it was at her request.
Clinton’s security clearance withdrawn at her request
By Jordain Carney – 10/12/18 05:45 PM EDTThe State Department has revoked former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s security clearance after she requested that it be withdrawn, according to a letter released Friday by a top GOP senator.
The State Department—in a letter dated Sept. 21 but publicly released Friday— told Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, that the security clearance was revoked on August 30 after Clinton requested that it be withdrawn.“We would like to provide you with an update on the status of former Secretary Clinton’s security clearance and the ongoing administrative review pertaining to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other current and former department officials,” Charles Faulkner, the acting assistant secretary of legislative affairs, wrote to Grassley.The State Department added in the letter to Grassley that five of Clinton’s aides had also had their security clearance revoked.Four of the names are redacted but one aide listed in the email is Cheryl Mills, who worked as Clinton’s chief of staff.
Edited to add:
- It is not unusual for officials to maintain clearances when they leave office;
- Hillary and her researchers were working on Hard Choices after she retired, so no, she is not working on a new book at the moment;
- Here is the request.
Here is the background.
Hillary is a person to be trusted and who will make the right decision at the right time. As always, I am proud of her choices when she is ready to make them.

I wish I had the link now, but I have been very busy working to elect Angie Craig to Congress from here in MN-02. Anyway, I did see a statement from Nick Merrill on Twitter that she did this in response to the administration’s revoking John Brennan’s security clearance, followed by Admiral McRaven requesting that his clearance be revoked in protest. Merrill stayed that she did this quietly so as not to politicize the issue of security clearances any further. Of course, Grassley didn’t honor the request from the State Dept. to maintain confidentiality. And apparently he was trying to spin it as something sinister. But Merrill said she only maintained the clearance when she left State to write her books. And she thought McRaven’s action of protest was a good time give up her clearance.

I edited to post to include some of Nick’s tweets with the request. This story went way out of control last night. The book she was working on was Hard Choices. It would not have been logical for her to relinquish the clearance in order to work on a new book.
People need to calm down!

I think certain people are very pissed that she beat them to the punch.
There’s an election coming so it’s time for some good old-fashioned Clinton bashing, courtesy of both the left and the right. One notable example from the left is Ezra Klein signal boosting Juanita Broaddrick after she spent days in DC calling Dr. Blasey Ford a liar. In Broaddrick’s alternate reality, only Democrats commit sexual assault.

I’m glad she pissed them off. She’s always a step or ten ahead of them. Haven’t been keeping an eye on the media, so I missed whatever Ezra did. He’s a slippery number.

Hillary was on CBS Sunday Morning and was asked if her husband’s affair with Monica was an abuse of power. What a ridiculous question to ask the wronged wife. Naturally, she’s getting criticized for saying it wasn’t, because Monica was an adult (and a consenting one). Did people really expect her to answer yes?

I know. I remember an interview Lewinsky did – was it with Barbara Walters? She described how she flirted with Bill, showed him the top of her thong, and also talked him into phone sex. “It’s fun!” I remember her words. That’s all I will say here about her.

Armando on Twitter has a great idea! He is asking if Morning Joke’s affair with Mika (and aren’t they supposed to be married by now?) is an abuse of power. Some workplace affairs clearly are, but in the real world, things are a lot more complicated. In the Lewinsky case, she initiated affair and persisted long after he began trying to end it. Seems absurd, given this fact pattern, to now kvetch about a power imbalance. Hillary can’t point any of this out. If she did media would accuse her of being mean to Lewinsky–as if she has no right to be. There will be distractions galore b4 mid-terms. We must do our best to ignore them.

Starr and his gumshoes (including the new SCOTUS justice) certainly abused THEIR power in their treatment of her.

They are accusing her anyway, as usual. Hillary is in Jersey City tonight for Bob Menendez. Yes, any excuse for a distraction. But the Energizer Bunny is on task.

Now entering day 2 of the Elizabeth Warren DNA test distraction. I don’t know why she thought that would stop Trump from lying or why she released the results just 3 weeks b4 the election.
