Congratulations, Mme. Secretary!
Former Senator Hillary Clinton honored at Martin and Coretta King Unity Breakfast – The Selma Times‑Journal
By James Jones
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton highlighted the Martin and Coretta King Unity Breakfast on Sunday at Wallace Community College-Selma.
Clinton received the 2019 International Unity Award and was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame by former Senator Hank Sanders and his wife, Rose Sanders.
“Women have a hard time when they seek position of power and fight for women’s rights,” Hank Sanders said. “She had to fight to become a Senator and fight to become Secretary of State.”
The capacity crowd in WCCS Gymnasium gave a thunderous standing ovation for Clinton, a former U.S. Presidential candidate in the Democrat party. The former First Lady connected the two honors.
“The two honors go hand in hand,” Clinton said. “The fight for Civil Rights, Women’s Rights and human Rights have been the driving force of my career. I’m humbled and honored to receive the award.”
SELMA, Ala. —Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton received the International Unity Award at the Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King Unity Breakfast in Selma, Alabama Sunday morning.
The breakfast was one of the events during the annual Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee.
Clinton was also inducted into the National Voting Rights Museum Women’s Hall of Fame.
Uhmmm, where was Bernie?
This is a Unity march so I would have expected him to be somewhere near the front along with Hillary, Corey, Sheila Jackson Lee as a show of “unity” and commitment to the cause they were marching for.
It was Hillary who won the International Unity Award and all Bernie could muster was a terse congratulations. She gave a very presidential speech while Bernie gave his usual stump speech. Didn’t see him interacting with any of the black leaders and a picture was taken at the breakfast where you see sanders sitting alone with his usual sour face and Hillary was smiling and candidly speaking to someone at her table.
Tell me again why Bernie is given so much credit by his followers for his extensive involvement in the Civil Rights Movement that rivals Hillary’s? Sanders is a cult of personality just like trump with nothing to offer except his pointing finger and empty rhetoric. Yet, the media shows respect for him and constantly undermines Hillary and never reports all of adulation and awards she is receiving from groups all over the country. I just don’t get it.

Bernie skipped the march. The NYT also skipped this entire complex series of events in its weekend summary. They included only Bernie’s kickoff, but ignored this, meaning they ignored not only Hillary’s speeches and honors, but also Cory’s speeches and participation. On a deeper and more meaningful level, the event should have been mentioned even if NO big names had participated. It commemorates an important day in history.

Bernie skipped the march?! His cult thinks he’s the greatest civil rights icon in the world and the media gave him yet another pass!!! What can this mean? For starters, we have to stop accepting that the media is not objectively covering the news and start asking WHY certain people get passes while others are attacked relentlessly loud and clear. Therein lies the answer of what’s going on behind the scenes.
Clearly, the medias covered of the likes of sanders, trump and the republican party, in contrast to their coverage of Hillary in both presidential runs in 2008 and 2016 (and anyone who stands up and speaks the truth), has become abundantly clear to me that the media is controlled by a power elite who wanted trump in the WH and would do anything to keep Hillary out. Why else is the media continuing to claim that he “won” fair and square” when State Senator Sanders expressed what is truly the case — SHE WON! But the FBI and the Russians interfered for the precise purpose of making sure trump was put in the WH by any means necessary. Their reasons are obvious — destroy democracy. Hillary was clearly a threat to their plan to undermine all democratic processes which would give people a real voice. What we are witnessing is another attempt of a final take over of the world and create a corporatocracy where the top 1% are in control and the rest of us are their corporate toadies.
The media is the propaganda arm of the top 1% and like the proverbial frog put into a pot of water and slowly comes to a boil before the frog and kills the frog before they can realize they are doomed, that is what’s happening to us here in the US and around the world now. Anyone who believes the media is fulfilling their role as defined by the Constitution as the Fourth Estate, is fooling themselves. Hitler’s Goebels would be so envious of the media we have today. (Yes, there are pockets of honest journalism but no where large enough to counter what we are witnessing on television every day 24/7). The people are being slowly endoctrinated into accepting “norms” which not too long ago would have resulted in outrage and an uprising of the people AND our representatives and trump would already be gone.
Read your history in how Hitler came into power. Obviously, the power elite have learned from their mistakes back then and have improved in how they are leading the people into subservience to those who wish to control everything.
Call me crazy, but I cannot help but see that what is happening to us and around the world as anything less than the final push to force people into total subservience. Trump is only the symptom but he is not the cause of this disease. The disease are those who stay in the shadows and pull the strings of everyone in power and they will succeed if we don’t wake up.

Bernie is just the other side of the Trump coin. I think Putin would have been just as happy with Bernie winning, which is why he cannot be allowed to be the Dem nominee.

BTW, Bernie left after the breakfast and didn’t stay for the march because he wasn’t the center of attention…exactly what trump would have done,
