Over and over again, this team has proven that the right candidate for office does not have to look a certain way or come from a certain zip code. Instead, what makes a leader is a passion for solving the problems that face our country and our communities, and a willingness to listen. We saw that earlier this year, when the most diverse freshman class yet was sworn into the House of Representatives — something that would have been unimaginable even a few decades ago.
It may not ever be easy. But our country was founded on the promise that it would change — that our union would have to be made more perfect.
The National Democratic Training Committee believes that change starts by giving every Democrat the tools to run for office. They work hand in hand with two of our incredible partner organizations, Emerge America and Run for Something, to offer online campaign trainings on everything from fundraising to field programs — entirely for free.
I’m so proud that Onward Together has been able to support the National Democratic Training Committee. Their work is critical to electing Democrats in thousands of offices across the country now and for years to come. Today, I hope you’ll take a moment to learn more about how their training program works — and perhaps think about running for office yourself!
Onward!

Hillary Clinton: Meet the National Democratic Training Committee

I think some of the defensiveness re Biden (which we certainly never saw with Hillary over much less serious issues) is rooted in the fact that President Obama chose Biden as his running mate. Many Democrats are reluctant to acknowledge a possible mistake here by the former president. But President Obama is certainly capable of making a mistake. See James Comey.
I think the real mistake by Democrats would be to gloss over behavior by any of the candidates which would be effectively weaponized by Trump and his allies in the general election. I have already heard the cry, Stop eating our own! with regard to other candidates. However, part of the primary process is vetting the candidates. They will all have flaws and a certain amount of baggage. It’s a matter of balancing pluses and minuses for all of them. Some weaknesses can be overcome. But some of the candidates like Sanders and Biden have weaknesses that will make Trump’s task much easier. If we do not “eat our own” during the primary, I am sure Trump will be happy to eat them for us. It’s one thing he’s frighteningly good at.

I agree. We need to be thorough. There are many on the slate. Our job is to vet our own before releasing the chosen one into the volcano that will be 2020.

It is. We’ve been through this enough to know the toll it takes. It’s a true marathon, and didn’t the original marathon runner drop dead at the end?
