Statement from President Bill Clinton and Secretary Hillary Clinton on the Passing of Congressman John LewisWe have lost a giant. John Lewis gave all he had to redeem America’s unmet promise of equality and justice for all, and to create a place for us to build a more perfect union together.
From a small farm in Alabama, to life-risking service in the civil rights movement, to three decades in Congress, he was always “walking with the wind,” steered by a moral compass that told him when to make good trouble and when to heal troubled waters. Always true to his word, his faith, and his principles, John Lewis became the conscience of the nation.
Hillary and I loved John. We were blessed by his friendship, support, and wise counsel. We’ll miss him so much, but we’ll always be grateful to God for his long good life, and grateful that he lived to see a new generation of Americans take to the streets in search of his long sought “beloved community.”
Our hearts go out to his son John-Miles and the entire Lewis family, his able loyal staff, and all who loved and admired him the world over.

I will be forever grateful to both Elijah Cummings and John Lewis (who Marco Rubio can’t even tell apart) for always, always having Hillary’s back when too many other Democrats were cowering in fear rather than defending her. It’s one more heartbreak that we lost both of these gutsy gentlemen in the last year. The last four years in America have been an ongoing tragedy.

The polls are looking very bad for Trump. But then you go on social media and there are all these idiots not just refusing to mask up (which infectious disease experts say is the one simple thing we all can do to halt the spread of the virus) but throwing huge, screaming tantrums when asked to do so, and you think,” Hmmm…we really better vote and ignore the polls.” So, please, ignore the damn polls and vote!

Why is no one in media pointing out the number of male journalists who endlessly harassed HRC in 2016 and who have since been accused by women they work with of sexual harassment and worse? The latest is Ed Henry, then of Fox News and their full time correspondent on the Clinton campaign. I believe one of the reasons Hillary held so few press conferences with the media which traveled with her was Ed Henry who was nasty and abusive. We now have ample evidence of the many misogynists who covered her campaign or commented on it. If you think the coverage of her campaign often met the definition of abuse, you were not imagining it. And the allegations against Henry which resulted in his recent firing are particularly horrific and gruesome. But sure, Hillary should have held more pressers.

Brassy,
I agree with you about the sexist coverage of Hillary not only during the 2016 election but any time she ran for office. Any woman who is willing to speak truth to power, such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, being verbally accosted by Yoho on the Capital steps, is proof that underneath the surface of male enlightenment toward women, particularly, women in power, there are still far too many men who continue to view women as the “enemy” to their entitlement and power.
I hope women will finally realize that the patriarchy is not going gently into that good night and that it is absolutely essential that we start supporting each other even when things get rough and we are told by men that the woman is not “electable”. I recall how the women who ran for president this time around were dismissed and told to get out of the race at the slightest misstep, while Joe Biden and the other men running, made many, significant gaffs, and was given a pass. That’s why we have trump today destroying our democracy.
I applaud Ocasio-Cortez for ot being silent and afraid to “rock the boat” by speaking out brilliantly on the House floor about the sexist remarks made to her by both Yoho and Williams. If we want to change the culture of sexism which is still very much alive and well every where we go, we have to call it out without reservation or fear. Women should no longer hold women to a higher standard than they do men. In fact, Jennifer Palmieri, who was communications director for Hillary’s campaign wrote a book entitled “She Proclaims, Our Declaration of Independence from a Man’s World”. It’s a great guide in showing “what most women know in their souls but have yet to say out loud-that they deserve something better than a life where men hold a vast majority of power and women continue to be undervalued. It is a manifesto for the second century of feminism that no longer chases a man’s elusive path but proclaims the value, ambition, and emotion women have had all along to change their world by changing how they engage in it…”
Changing the way we engage in the world is the only way women will ever reach the equality we have always been “entitled” to but denied by men.

Speaking of books, Wynne, last night I learned that a book is being released on Tuesday called, “The Hunting of Hillary”. It’s the story of the four decade long assault on Hillary by the right-wing, aided and abetted by a willing national media. I think it may be an important turning point for society because it is written by an award winning male journalist, Michael D’Antonio, not a partisan. I pre-ordered this morning. We can never put Trump fully behind us until we reckon with what was done to Hillary in 2016. The media has much to atone for.

Just sitting here thinking about how Hillary would have been accused of running a bad campaign if she had allowed her vice presidential search to degenerate into the political version of Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery”.

I anticipated trouble the moment Chris Dodd was named to head search committee–for a FEMALE running mate. Chris Dodd was known as Ted Kennedy’s “wingman” back in their carousing days. I will vote for Biden, but his blind spot on gender will lose me on January 21st.

I will have to get that book about Hillary! She’s been right all along about the right-wing media and trump being a puppet for putin. It appears that the power elite clearly want an oligarchy and not a democratic republic.
As for biden. The fact that the media is behind him and fluffing his pillows much like they did for obama tells me that he is just another puppet they know they can control. The woman chosen for the VP slot will tell us a lot about whether biden is choosing her or the power elite is behind the scenes.

I don’t know why any woman would want it now. Whoever is putting out these hit pieces on Harris in the Biden campaign is signaling that they’re looking for sycophancy, not loyalty. They’ve sort of tarnished the role. Moreover, given the sensitive nature of the info vp candidates are required to provide to the vetting committee, it’s beyond inappropriate that Dodd is discussing anything with anyone outside of the campaign. At the risk of sounding like Susan Collins, it’s “very troubling” that Biden hasn’t stopped him. I certainly hope that he’s not encouraging him. These vets are supposed to be super private and discreet. This whole process has been anything but.

Brassy,
IMO, Biden has never been the ultimate feminist that that he claims he is, nor to the extent the press makes him out to be. It’s only for political expediency that biden is pushing for a woman VP. I have no doubt that biden will throw any woman, even his VP, under the bus if defending her threatens him politically in any way…remember Anita Hill? I just don’t trust biden and never have. Have you noticed how they’ve been taking jabs at Hillary’s VP pick, Tim Kaine lately? I actually believe Kaine is more of a real feminist than biden is by far. The attacks on Kaine are precisely because the male run media knows he is a real feminist.
I immediately became suspicious that biden was “selected” by the power elite and not “elected” by the people when the press continually ignored his lackluster campaign, lukewarm debates and numerous gaffs throughout the primary. They kept saying “wait until South Carolina…” How many candidates get that kind of support from the media? None. Why? Can anyone explain that even though he is known to lose his cool and even curse at voters on the trail over the course of his three presidential runs, he avoids paying the price other candidates would face. Why does the media let him get away with that kind of behavior? You and I both know that no woman would EVER be allowed to get away with it and that the media would immediately deem her unqualified for the presidency because of it.
I think the reason for the media’s fluffing of biden’s pillows is because the power elite are confident that they can control biden and that he would be willing to do their bidding. They thought they could control trump but made a huge mistake in underestimating his psychopathy! trump’s actually awakening the American people who’ve been asleep at the wheel for some time now. The power elite certainly do not want an alert citizenry!
So, whomever biden chooses, that woman has a good chance of becoming president because of biden’s age and his mental agility to handle the job which may either cut short his first term or he won’t run for a second. They say Warren and Harris are the top two on his list but I find it hard to believe that the power elite would risk either of these women eventually becoming president, although I believe Warren poses more of a threat than Harris. The only reason Warren would be chosen is because our economy is so far in the ditch that even they would recognize the need for biden to choose someone who really understands how the economy works and could actually fix it. The power elite know they cannot rule over the masses if the economy is in the ditch and can’t get out. Moreover, Warren also has a plan for just about everything that is going wrong in our country, none of the other picks do and right now, qualifications and experience are absolutely necessary if we are to clean up the mess trump is leaving (that is after we can blast his fat butt out of the WH when he loses!)
The VP pick is key to our understanding whether those in power truly want our democratic republic to succeed or just quelling the outrage of the people unleashed by the sociopathic, totally corrupt, incompetent liar in the WH.
We will find out next week.

BTW, don’t get me wrong! I will readily vote for biden because ANYONE would be better than trump. I just get frustrated with how extremely flawed men are held up with high esteem from colleagues and the press while women are constantly badgered over the slightest imperfection. Biden is not a bad man, I think he is weak in a time when strength, courage and willingness to do the right thing against all odds are the most important qualities that our next president must have if we want to overcome and destroy the insatiable greed and selfishness which has clearly taken over our so-called leaders in the republican party and their corporate enablers..
Without a doubt, we need more women in power if we really do want to see real, transitional change that will benefit EVERYONE and not just white men.

I agree. You’d never know we had a woman achieve the nomination by a major party for the presidency just 4 years ago if you listen to the media narrative today. Wow. I love Kamala and I certainly will vote for Biden but what a difference in the media coverage! Hillary was held to such a double standard and portrayed as a liar who was the worst of 2 bad choices for president. And emails , emails, emails! Now, it all seems so unimportant. The media was derelict in its duty. And it’s so sad to remember and now the whole country has paid the price. When you think about it, it’s depressing. When I think of how well Hillary did in the primaries against both Obama and Sanders, and how Biden had to be helped by Clyburn across the finish line, there is no comparison. In my opinion, Hillary was a much more compelling candidate than Biden. And yes, the media is easier on Biden than they ever attempted to be on Hillary. She was treated like crap from every corner and her own party was afraid to defend her . In some ways, she stood alone. I hope the party at least will do better this time around. Thank goodness there aren’t any third party candidates it appears this time, to take enough votes away from the nominee to lose the election. That was a mess, too. When will people ever learn??

I agree with all your points except that the media was derelict in 2016. I think they intended to elevate Trump and demean Hillary. Now they behave like this is all so shocking. The gaslighting is endless. And the continual erasure of Hillary is maddening. This isn’t the most important election in history; that was 2016. 2020 is merely an attempt to control the damage which is massive.
