For her long dedication to bringing an end to The Troubles, Hillary Clinton was deservedly recognized today by Irish America Magazine.  Congratulations, Mme. Secretary!

In these contentious times, I offer my favorite Irish prayer.  A Blessed and Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all!

May those that love us love us,

And those that don’t love us,

May God turn their hearts.

And if He doesn’t turn their hearts,

May He turn their ankles

So we will know them

By their limping.

“Irish Americans for Hillary,” said the buttons on the tables in the ballroom of the Essex House Hotel where Irish America magazine honored Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton for her work in advancing the Irish Peace Process by inducting her into the Irish America Hall of Fame, which is based on the Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience in New Ross, County Wexford, the ancestral home of John F. Kennedy who inspired her husband Bill Clinton to enter public service.

Joining Secretary Clinton were three other outstanding inductees, the philanthropist Robert J. McCann, CEO UPS Group America, Emmett O’Connell, head of Great Western Mining, who has spent his life strengthening the bond between Ireland and America and Pat Quinn, creator of the Ice Bucket Challenge which raised millions for ALS research.

Here is an excellent recap of Hillary’s efforts for peace.

When It Comes to Irish Peace,
Hillary and History Rhyme

By Niall O’Dowd, Founding Publisher
April / May 2015

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s role in the Irish peace process is often underestimated but there were few people more important.

In retrospect it all seems so obvious. Once an American president focused on Ireland, there would be an immediate concerted effort to find a way to end Europe’s long-running war.

After decades of war the American intervention was decisive, a fact admitted years later by the British government themselves. The reality at the time was different, however. When President Bill Clinton became the first U.S. president in history to focus on peace in Ireland, the initiative was opposed on all sides.

EMILY’s List 30th Anniversary Gala was held at the Washington Hilton the evening of March 3.

03-03015-Z-02
Hillary received the “We are EMILY” Award. These are some of the remarks she made.

03-03015-Z-04
People roll their eyes when I say women’s issues are America’s issues.

03-03015-Z-31
What was it like for women in politics before EMILY’s List? Women could not get into the game.

03-03015-Z-40
Barbara Mikulski, a 4’11’ spark plug – forced the Senate to allow women to wear pantsuits on the floor. Gave Hillary a tutorial in how to be a senator.

03-03015-Z-38
EMILY’s List helped elect 19 women to the Senate.

03-03015-Z-18

Hillary cited Maggie Hassan, Gina Raimondo, Nancy Pelosi, Patty Murray, Kirsten Gillibrand, Elizabeth Warren, Barbara Boxer, …. Hopes more women will run since we are losing both Barbaras.

03-03015-Z-22

Standing up not just for women but for all people …. for an economy that works for everyone.

03-03015-Z-21

New participation age: No Ceilings global report full of evidence of how when women and girls participate they lift up everyone.

03-03015-Z-15

Today there are too many policies and pressures that make it hard for families. These are not problems just for women but for families.

03-03015-Z-25

When any parent is shortchanged the economy is shortchanged.  This is everyone’s fight.

03-03015-Z-23

The American middle class was built in part by the right of people to organize and fight.  Not an issue just for labor union members, but for everyone. If there is not a balance of power in the workplace, everyone suffers.

03-03015-Z-26

Americans feel the ground shifting under their feet. The new rules are not clear. Our gains are real but fragile.  We are going to have to work together to build the 21st century economy.

03-03015-Z-34

Washington has to work not just for those at the top but for all.  We can help families find their footing in the middle class.  Republicans recently singing out of the same hymnal.  We don’t discourage them but don’t buy the trickle down economy.

03-03015-Z-13

She reminisced about her own family. How her grandparents and parents succeeded.  Her mother’s voice, like Ayanna’s mother’s, echoes in her head.

03-03015-Z-10

Some decisions are big like ‘do you run for office.’

03-03015-Z-07

When, like Gabby, you survive a murder attempt, what do you do?

03-03015-Z-06

Waiting for Charlotte: A nurse said thank you for fighting for paid leave…. while she was taking care of other people’s babies she had to worry about how to take care of her own kids.

03-03015-Z-24
Hillary also had to make decisions about how to take care of Chelsea when she was sick and Hillary had to get to court.

03-03015-Z-29

Over the next months: Don’t you want to see more women running? For the school board? For president?

03-03015-Z-09

Be recommitted. Help us organize. Spread the word. Fulfill the vision of EMILY’s List.  Stand with them and for them. Make a daily commitment.

03-03015-Z-37

We are at a turning point. We can wage these struggles and emerge victorious.  Let’s go forth and win some elections!

EMILY’s List to honor Hillary Clinton

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton will be honored next month by EMILY’s List, a Democratic fundraising powerhouse, as she considers a potential 2016 presidential campaign that could make her the first woman to win the White House.

EMILY’s List, which works to elect Democratic women who support abortion rights, said Tuesday that Clinton would appear at its 30th anniversary awards gala in Washington on March 3. The former secretary of state will receive the group’s We Are EMILY Award to honor her leadership “as a fighter for women and families,” said Stephanie Schriock, the group’s president.

30TH ANNIVERSARY
NATIONAL CONFERENCE
AND GALA DINNER

March 2-3, 2015
Washington Hilton
Washington, D.C.

Join us for an historic two-day National Conference – bringing the best of our candidates and conversations from around the country to Washington, D.C. in 2015. We’ve come so far in 30 years – let’s celebrate our victories and plan for many, many more!
Emily's List

Hi there,

A lot has changed since EMILY’s List was founded, but one thing holds true: We stand on the shoulders of the pro-choice women who fought before us.

That’s why every year we honor extraordinary women whose leadership has made an impact on our nation — women who are making the road a little bit easier for other women following in their footsteps — with the We Are EMILY award.

I’m excited to announce that, this year, we’re presenting the We Are EMILY Award to Hillary Clinton!

You’ve been a critical part of electing pro-choice Democratic women like Hillary, and I want you to have the chance to celebrate her leadership with us in person.

Donate $3 now to be automatically entered for a chance to come to the 30th gala. You’ll get to watch Hillary Clinton receive her award and mingle with other amazing women like Nancy Pelosi, Gabrielle Giffords, and the nine new pro-choice Democratic women this community just helped elect to Congress (hotel and a flight to D.C. for the gala are included for you and a guest).

Good luck, and I hope to see you soon!

Stephanie Schriock
President, EMILY’s List

According to these New York Daily News and  New York Times reports, Hillary Clinton will join Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Martin O’Malley, and Chris Matthews as a member of Irish America Magazine’s Hall of Fame.   Hillary will deliver the keynote address at the March 16 event.

Hillary Clinton to join Irish America Hall of Fame as ‘unsung hero’ of peace process

Hillary Clinton may not be a two-time presidential candidate just yet.

But she’s already an “unsung hero” of Ireland’s peace process, according to a group that plans to honor her in New York next month.

Clinton will be inducted into the Irish America Hall of Fame because “as First Lady, U.S. Senator and Secretary of State,” she worked to keep the peace process “at the top of the U.S. foreign policy agenda,” Irish America co-founder Niall O’Dowd said in a Monday statement.

Hillary Clinton to Be Inducted Into Irish-American Hall of Fame

Amy Chozick

Hillary Rodham Clinton will be inducted into Irish America magazine’s hall of fame next month, giving her an early opportunity to try to charm a critical voting bloc.

On March 16, Mrs. Clinton will deliver a keynote address to a network of high-profile Irish-Americans who each year honor elected officials and others and give them a chance to address the St. Patrick’s Day-themed luncheon.

Previous inductees include former President Bill Clinton, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and former Gov. Martin O’Malley or Maryland, who last year addressed the crowd in a mix of English and Irish.

Alan Gross was finally released from Cuban detention and a relaxation of U.S. – Cuban relations ensued.  This was something Hillary strongly advocated and actively sought for years as Secretary of State.

The Clinton clan was spotted out and about in New York City over the holidays, at one point taking little Charlotte out for a stroll.

For the 19th Time the Gallup poll named Hillary the ‘Most Admired Woman.’

Hillary ended the year on a playful note with an email that delivered a mischievous jab at those who have spent the year ceaselessly speculating about her 2016 intentions while ignoring her groundbreaking efforts at the Clinton Foundation.  The subject line of the email, “Announcement,”  sent a brief shock wave through the Hillary Clinton press corps and prompted a chuckle from those of us who love to watch Hillary play her pursuers.  Good one, Mme. Secretary!

10-13-14-OZ-27

Happy New Year to all!  There is still time to support Hillary’s work and for your contribution to be tripled!  Donate before midnight,  and then let’s all toast her efforts!

Happy New Year, Mme. Secretary, and thank you!

Hillary’s long-anticipated memoir, Hard Choices, was released on June 10 and with it came long summer weeks of appearances and book-signings.  In some cases, speaking events were paired with book sales: attendees received a signed copy at the event.   The enviable “selfie” of the summer, if not with Hillary herself,  was the photo of the wristband.

The status symbol was the autographed copy of the book.

Hillary graced the cover of People Magazine and toured the talk show circuit to promote the book.
