Hillary Clinton joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show last night for the first time since the campaign season when he hosted both her and her opponent, the well-known TV figure.
It was highly emotional from the moment Fallon brought on female staffers who wanted to write Thank You Notes (a staple on the show, but normally on Fridays) to Hillary. Miley Cyrus, guest co-host for the week, was the last in line and brought me to tears. Then Hillary wrote her own thank you note. It was touching, real. Unless you are a total dolt, you knew, watching this, what we have lost. But you also gained hope in what comes next because it is these young women and all they represented last night.
Fallon has taken a lot of flack for being too hospitable to Trump back in the general election. Perhaps this absolves him. I am not sure. But Hillary certainly knows him and knows he has two little girls. I had the impression that her advice to him, back when we were all so young and hopeful, to read to them, sing to them, talk to them, made more of an impression on him than DJT’s hair.
It’s too late now for Jimmy to rethink being even-handed or maybe even too playful and carefree when we were faced with a deadly serious choice. Did Jimmy redeem himself? I think Hillary allowed it. But I also think that the reason she was a guest this week was because Miley was co-host. When Hillary was on SNL, Miley was the guest musician.
The general impression was that a gang of women set Jimmy back on track. For him it may be too little too late, but for them it was their night in history. Powerful.
After Hillary’s appearance, Miley sang Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ dedicated to Hillary, and we all tweeted Nancy and said “YES!”
Update: Wednesday’s “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” featured Miley Cyrus, who was appearing as part of her “Miley Week” residency on the show.
It also featured a visit from Hillary Clinton.
One segment brought the two women together.
The segment involved Cyrus and writers from “The Tonight Show” penning “Thank You Notes” to Clinton.
Clinton also appeared for an interview on the episode, while Cyrus participated in two performances — “Islands In The Stream” and “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.”
A video of the “Thank You Notes” segment follows. Additional videos will be posted upon availability. Photos from the taping are also embedded.

Miley Cyrus’ ‘Tonight Show’ residency continues, and boy did it get emotional on Oct. 4. The ‘Malibu’ singer met her idol Hillary Clinton and broke down in tears of admiration while asking for a hug.
Miley Cyrus, 24, really wore her heart on her sleeve on the Oct. 4 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. While she’s been the musical guest all week long, her political hero, Hillary Clinton, 69, was the only other guest on the show so Miley finally got to meet her and it was epic! The singer turned up at the end of host Jimmy Fallon‘s “Thank you notes” sketch with the former Secretary of State. After a number of young female staff writers came on and “wrote” cards of praise thanking the former Democratic presidential nominee for being such an inspiration, Miley came on last and almost immediately burst into tears upon being in Hillary’s presence.
“Thank you Hillary…(sniff)…Clinton for being a constant beacon of strength, hope and determination for me an millions of other young women. You’ve been a role model and an inspiration and a voice of reason in uncertain times. I could go on and on but I’d like to get right to the point. Can I give you a hug?” she said while weeping. Hillary was SO touched and of course she let Miley give her a great big hug.

Hillary Clinton, speaking Tuesday night to more than 2,500 admirers who paid $50 to $375 to see her in person, said America needs to discuss “common-sense gun reform” after the massacre in Las Vegas and to address climate change after hurricanes ripped through Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.
The losing 2016 Democratic presidential nominee accused President Donald Trump of playing on America’s division and lacking “intellectual curiosity,” and she faulted his administration’s response to Hurricane Maria’s devastation of Puerto Rico.
Clinton spoke to a sold-out Broward Center for the Performing Arts to promote her 2016 election book What Happened. She attributed her defeat to a “perfect storm” of voter “anger and resentment,” media and FBI focus on the private email server she set up as secretary of state and “information warfare waged against us from within the Kremlin.”
Thinking Cap is the podcast of the Center for American Progress. Monday night, Hillary Clinton sat down for an interview with co-hosts Michele Jawando and Igor Volsky to discuss the massacre in Las Vegas, weapons proliferation, and the response to hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. The full episode will be released on Thursday. Here is a preview.

TORONTO – Former American presidential candidate Hillary Clinton told an appreciative crowd on Thursday that more women in politics is the way to overcome the sexism that pervades the political world, and that democracy is under assault.
The Democrat was in Toronto to promote her new best-selling memoir, “What Happened,” in which she describes her stunning loss in last year’s election to political newcomer, Republican Donald Trump, a man often criticized as a misogynist.
“The only way to get sexism out of politics is to get more women into politics,” Clinton, 69, said. “I want more women in politics so our politics is more representative.”

Hillary Clinton warned Canadians that “democracy is under attack” not just in the United States, but in Canada and around the world, and she told a Toronto audience Thursday night that she will do everything she can to fight against the forces trying to undermine it.
“Democracy is under attack everywhere. It’s not only my country,” Clinton told a packed hall of an estimated 5,500 at the Enercare Centre. She pledged to use her voice and platform to encourage people to get involved and help tackle the things that are challenging democracy in the U.S. and globally.
“I’m not going anywhere except right into the middle of the debates about our future,” she told the sellout crowd.

The event itself was tightly locked down. Men and women in black suits, many with telltale earpieces snaking up their necks, led media to a cordoned-off area and audience members to their places.
RCMP officers were embedded for Clinton’s protection, and maintained a low profile. Instead of their usual scarlet uniforms, they wore suits that blended easily with the crowd of about 5,000 — most of them women, who howled and applauded above Clinton’s comments, which ranged in topic from Donald Trump to HGTV.
After a musical opener warmed up the crowd, playing songs such as “Sway” and “Hold On,” Clinton’s appearance began with a set of opening remarks, which brought the crowd to their feet.
From the back of the room, one woman called out: “We love you!”
Ryan met Hillary Clinton near her home in Chappaqua, upstate New York
2-3 minutes
In an interview with Ryan Tubridy on Friday night’s Late Late Show, Hillary Clinton admits that she feels she “let the world down” after losing last year’s US Presidential race to Donald Trump.
In an Irish television exclusive, the former US Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate was interviewed near her home in Chappaqua, upstate New York.Clinton talks about the extraordinary sequence of events that led to her losing the US presidential race to businessman and reality TV star Trump.
Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed concern over the political stalemate in Northern Ireland.
Ms Clinton said she did not want to see the gains of the peace process and powersharing at Stormont lost.
In an interview with RTÉ at her home in Chappaqua, upstate New York, the former US First Lady said: “I am a little worried right now, to be very candid with you.
“I am listening to and hearing reports about the loggerheads people find themselves at.
“There has just been so much progress, I don’t want to see it lost.”
For Ryan’s fans in Ireland, here’s a little background. Westchester County, where the Clintons live, is historically heavily Irish-American. All the good dance schools are there, and the county is the home of the Great Hunger Memorial. The universities of Westchester are always prominent in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

MONTCLAIR — The line waiting for Hillary Clinton nearly shut down Watchung Plaza in Montclair Tuesday. It went from the entrance of Watchung Booksellers, snaking around the corner and continuing down several blocks of North Fullerton Avenue.
Clinton greeted about 1,000 people who paid $30 for a signed copy of her new book, “What Happened,” and a brief individual encounter with the first woman to win a major party nomination for president of the United States.
The first fan to meet Clinton was an 89-year-old retired journalist, Betty Hall. From her wheelchair Tuesday, Hall, who traveled from Titusville with her daughter, Jane Lee, told reporters she wanted to meet Clinton because, “she should have won.”
Hall staked out her prime spot in line at about noon Tuesday for the event, which began shortly before 6 p.m. With the little time she had, Hall asked Clinton whether she would run again in 2020.
“She said, ‘No, but I’m going to be around,'” Hall said afterward.

A long line wrapped around Watchung Booksellers for Hillary Rodham Clinton’s ongoing “What Happened” book tour in Montclair this Tuesday. A thousand people gathered at Watchung Plaza for a chance to meet Clinton and received an autographed copy of her newest autobiographical book that provides the former presidential candidate’s reflections on the turbulent 2016 election defeat.
“This is a great way to finally meet her,” said Vineet Shah, a Clinton supporter who came from his tech job in Manhattan to see her. “She ran a campaign with values that I also hold and that’s what matters to me.”
A sizable portion of eager onlookers, some of whom brought pro-Clinton picket signs, gathered behind barricades across the street of the bookstore. A sense of grief still pervaded over many Clinton supporters since her defeat to current President Donald Trump in their hostile race for the presidency.
“I was almost in tears,” said Montclair native Courtney Novak reflecting on election night. “Most people I knew didn’t think she was going to lose.”

@U.S. Senate: Time to ratify LOST!
"... ratify the Law of the Sea Convention, which has provided the international framework for exploring these new opportunities in the Arctic. We abide by the international law that undergirds the convention, but we think the United States should be a member, because the convention sets down the rules of the road that protect freedom of navigation, provide maritime security, serve the interests of every nation that relies on sea lanes for commerce and trade, and also sets the framework for exploration for the natural resources that may be present in the Arctic." -HRC, 06-03-12, Tromso Norway
