There are gubernatorial elections in Louisiana, Kentucky, and Mississippi; state legislative elections in New Jersey and Virginia; mayoral races in major cities; and hundreds of local races across the country. And the stakes are high: Many of the officials we elect today will have a heavy hand in redrawing the district maps we’ll use for the next decade.

The recessional was ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ as you have never heard it before. We will not see his like.
Elijah Cummings was a resounding voice of moral courage who fought the good fights for the people of Baltimore, and faithfully honored his oath to protect and defend the Constitution with a passion, skill, determination, and dignity rarely matched in our history. He worked for affordable, quality health care, educational and economic opportunities, and environmental justice for all Americans. And he led the House Committee on Oversight and Reform in finding facts, exposing fictions, and demanding that our government be accountable. Hillary and I are grateful to have served with him and for his friendship. Our thoughts and prayers are with Maya and the Cummings family.
Congressman Cummings had a simple philosophy: Do something. No matter how daunting a problem seems, no matter how helpless you feel, surely there is something you can do.
Those are the words Elijah lived by, and the path he left for the rest of us to follow.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Hillary Clinton is imploring Minnesota Democrats to get out and vote in the 2020 election because the presidential race is shaping up to be “very, very close.”
The former secretary of state and presidential candidate and her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, made a stop in Minneapolis Thursday night to promote their new book “The Book of Gutsy Women: Favorite Stories of Courage and Resilience.”
Clinton says her narrow margin of victory over Donald Trump in Minnesota in 2016 has the president and his supporters focused on flipping the state next year. She says Minnesotans should “start right now thinking about how to reach out and talk to people” to make the case for a change in the White House.
Hillary Clinton honored in hometown “Trailblazing Women of Park Ridge” event
PARK RIDGE, Ill. — Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton returned home to Park Ridge Friday, to view a documentary of her life and talk with local students.
A packed house of elementary, middle, and high school students joined Clinton at the Pickwick Theatre to preview the Park Ridge Historical Society’s exhibit, the “Trailblazing Women of Park Ridge.” The exhibit is set to open in the spring of 2020, and will honor Clinton along with three other women.
A new documentary chronicling Clinton’s experiences in Park Ridge also premiered at the event.
Last month, I joined our friends at the Albert Shanker Institute and the American Federation of Teachers for a conference on the ways we can protect and defend American democracy. In my opening remarks, I spoke about the risks that voter suppression, fake news, and a lack of election security pose to our country’s very foundation.
The founders of four Onward Together partner and grantee organizations also joined the conference as panelists that day: Eric Holder of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, Andrew Gillum of Forward Florida, Leah Greenberg of Indivisible, and María Teresa Kumar of Voto Latino.
