Hillary Clinton’s Busy Day in NYC: A King and Two Award Galas

Prior to attending two galas honoring her this evening,  Hillary Clinton met with King Mohammed VI in New York City today.

Then she was off to not one but two overlapping events.  Women for Women celebrated their 20th anniversary at the Museum of Natural History on Central Park West and honored her with their 2013 Champion of Peace Award.  The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation presented her with their Global Impact Award at their event at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square.

At Women for Women Sheryl Sandberg introduced her.   Diane Sawyer presented the award  the AIDS event.

Hillary Clinton and Diane Sawyer step down memory lane

Hillary Clinton and Diane Sawyer took a trip down memory lane Tuesday night at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation’s 25th-anniversary gala. Sawyer — who was presenting the former secretary of state with the Global Impact Award — recalled her time with Clinton at Wellesley College, when they were “young girls with coke-bottle glasses.” “One of us spent a lot of time having an identity crisis — that was me,” Sawyer told the crowd at the Best Buy Theater. “I went to law school and didn’t graduate, and ended up doing the weather in tight skirts and lamentably pointy bras.” Clinton was quick to set the record straight, saying, “Everything Diane said is inaccurate.” The evening also featured dramatic readings from Glaser’s memoir by Mary Steenburgen and former “ER” stars Julianna Margulies and Gloria Reuben, who we’re told became visibly emotional while reading the excerpt. Other guests in the house included Nigel Barker, Willow Bay and Miss Universe Gabriela Isler.

Elton John AIDS Foundation Honors Hillary Clinton With Founder’s Award

This evening, at Cipriani on Wall Street in New York, Elton John’s foundation bestowed its Founder’s Award upon our Hillary.  It is so gratifying to see her honored for her hard work.  We know that she did not embark upon any of these initiatives or do this work in order to be rewarded in any way except to help improve people’s lives,  but it is wonderful that she is so recognized for her efforts.

Also this evening, she hosted a fundraiser for friend and Virginia gubernatorial candidate, Terry McAuliffe,

Secretary Clinton will be joined by Ambassador Eric P. Goosby, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator. The event will take place at 10:30 am in the Benjamin Franklin Room at the Department of State.

On Thursday, November 29, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver remarks entitled The U.S. and Europe: A Revitalized Global Partnership at an event hosted by the Center on the United States and Europe at the Brookings Institution. Brookings President Strobe Talbott will provide introductory remarks. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Brookings Institution.

The Foreign Policy Group (publishers of Foreign Policy Magazine), in conjunction with the U.S. State Department’s Policy Planning Staff will host the Foreign Policy Strategic Forum, “Transformational Trends 2013 and Beyond”, at the Newseum, in Washington D.C., on November 29, 2012.

The concluding keynote remarks will be delivered by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and will highlight transformational trends and issues for the U.S. in the year ahead. The Secretary will also take questions from Forum participants.

Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns will deliver opening remarks to frame the day of panel discussions with numerous distinguished individuals. Jake Sullivan, U.S. State Department Director of Policy Planning, and his predecessors David Gordon, Morton Halperin, Dennis Ross, and Jim Steinberg will discuss transformational trends from an historic perspective. U.S. National Security Advisor Tom Donilon will deliver the lunchtime keynote address, “U.S. National Security Priorities in a Transforming World”, to include emerging security threats to the United States and opportunities for strategic strengthening.

Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, Robert Hormats, Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs, Carlos Pascual, and Under Secretary of Energy (Acting) and Assistant Secretary of Energy for Policy and International Affairs, David Sandalow, will also participate in panel discussions.

This one-day high-level forum will connect over 180 U.S. Government policy makers and global thought leaders of many disciplines to address the most important drivers reshaping global affairs. Topics of discussion will include Strategic Surprises, National Security Priorities in a Transforming World, Changing Global Resources, and New Economic Sources of Power.

The event will begin at approximately 9:00 a.m. with Secretary Clinton’s remarks at 5:00 p.m. at the Newseum.
