The Apollo was not the only Harlem appearance Hillary made today.  She and her old pal Charlie Rangel stopped for coffee-and at a bakery in the neighborhood.  New York Metro area folks are forever grateful to Charlie for spiriting Hillary to New York to run for the Senate.

At the Schomburg, with Mayor DeBlasio,  Governor Cuomo and Eric Holder onstage, Charlie Rangel introduced Hillary saying, “We will be able to say we were there when it happened.”

Hillary: “It is not enough to break up the big banks.” She enumerated the markers of systemic racism – from mass incarceration to health issues like asthma rates and infant mortality and then unrolled a comprehensive agenda.

Among the items on this agenda: Jobs creation, support for Black entrepreneurs, especially women, equal pay for equal work, raising the minimum wage, providingAccess to home ownership and pre-school. In education: desegregating schools, and making college affordable.

Her job plan will combat recidivism due to long term unemployment when those who have paid their debt are released.

In schools, overreliance on suspensions and expulsions as well as police presence in schools will be addressed  to end the school to prison pipeline. Support will be provided for guidance counselors, school psychologists an social workers.

Among her comments:

“I actually tell you what I want to do. I think that’s my job.”

Coded racial language about President Obama comes from Republicans.  “As if he’s not the ‘real’ president.  He has the right to nominate under the Constitution and the Senate has the duty to vote on the nomination.”

Hillary will appoint justices who see the Constitution as a blueprint for progress.

“We can’t start building relationships a few weeks before a vote.”

“Hold me accountable.”

“None of this is a they problem.  It’s a we problem.  It’s an American problem.”

“We need to try to walk in one another’s shoes.”

Hillary was with longtime pal and supporter Charles Rangel at the Congressional Black Caucus Dinner in D.C. on Saturday evening after a hugely well-received appearance at the New Hampshire Democratic Convention earlier in the day.  We are all ever grateful to Charlie for spiriting Hillary to New York and encouraging her to run for the Senate.

(CBS News) — This Sunday on Face the Nation, John Dickerson sits down with Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton in her first Sunday show interview in almost four years.

We’ll talk to the former secretary of state about the news of the day, both at home and abroad, the state of her campaign, and what it’s like running as an establishment candidate in a campaign that’s shaping up, so far, as the year of the outsider.

One hundred forty-three of us are members of Dr. Lynette Long’s Facebook group: Put A Woman In Statuary Hall. Today, in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the National Women’s History Project, Nancy Pelosi did just that. No, she did not dedicate a statue, but she honored, in Statuary Hall, a flesh and blood,  living and breathing hero for women and girls all over the world, Secretary of State Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton. There is an earlier post here (scroll down) with a video and text Of Secretary Clinton’s remarks at this event, but I could not resist posting a pictorial review. (I also could not resist including my pal, Charlie Rangel, who was not near Hillary at the time, but just to say, “Hi, Charlie!” I have met him, and he is a good guy. He also is the one who suggested Hillary move to New York and run for the Senate. I am forever grateful for that.) And now, heeerrrrrre’s Hillary enjoying yet another wonderful honor and looking typically adorable doing so.

Here is a video of Hillary Clinton with UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown today in Copenhagen. This was just after their bilateral.

Also in Copenhagen with the U.S. Delegation are Hillary’s old friend (and mine) Congressman Charlie Rangel,  Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer.

Well, no I have no idea WHY they are there, but there they are!

With a dearth of Hillary news out there (and she is taking tomorrow off too – good for her!), I thought I would share this video sent to me by a friend. I spent ten years in Haiti, will always love that country and its people, and could not be more pleased with the way Bill and Hillary share that love for Haiti. I met Charlie Rangel down there when my faculté held a reception for him. I was not there when Bill and Hillary first visited, so I did not meet them. I was visiting my sister in Florida for the holidays at the time.

The entire speech that Hillary gives here is posted in the archive of this blog. I put it up the day she made this speech. Haitian soldiers (then French) came here to help us fight the American Revolution. Apparently Bill was the first POTUS to thank Haiti for the support.
