Vice President Joe Biden will be among the luminaries attending the funeral service for New Jersey congressman Donald Payne, who died this week after a brief battle with cancer, a law-enforcement source tells NBC New York.

Payne died early Tuesday of colon cancer. He was 77.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, are also both expected to be in attendance for the service Wednesday at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark.

Although he never commented, Representative Payne was a frequent visitor to this blog, and I considered him a friend of ours.  He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, colleagues, constituents, and all who benefited  from his long years of service.  Rest in peace, dear friend.  I will miss seeing you here.
