If you really want to go there, no one asked President George H.W. Bush to shut down his foundation when his son ran for and then won (well … was conceded) the presidency in 2000.  Neither did anyone suggest both H.W.’s and W’s foundations shut down when Jeb was running.  Where was the hue and cry? We have eschewed macros and graphics during this cycle because they are slick and often the sourcing is questionable.  Think this appears trustworthy.

Then, since Jeb is, in fact, not the person running, there is this.

There have been many Trump moves during this campaign that cause Hillary supporters to ask, “What if Hillary had done that?”  There are reports that Trump profited off the campaign in a few ways.  First by renting office space in Trump Tower to the campaign as headquarters and then by jacking up the rent.   Then there is the matter of his diverting campaign donations to buy $55,000 worth of his own book, from which he collected royalties, to stuff gift bags for delegates at the convention.

Delegates to the DNC who received free copies of Hard Choices in your gift bags, please raise your hands!  OH!  Nobody!

As to Trump’s tax returns, yet to be released, his son thinks this is a “bad idea” for the most outrageous of reasons.

Eric Trump: Dad Would Be ‘Foolish’ to Release Taxes

According to Eric Trump, it would be “foolish” for his father Donald to release his income-tax returns amid the presidential race. “You would have a bunch of people who know nothing about taxes trying to look through and trying to come up with assumptions on things they know nothing about,” the 32-year-old spawn of the real-estate mogul said on CNBC Wednesday.

As for the talk about Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s “calendars” they can be found here, as published by the State Department,  for anyone who would like to go through the tedious process of checking out whom she met and when.

Why are the cable news folks not reporting Trump’s shenanigans?  What have we got to lose?  Her!

Is it fair to put a hypothetical question about the Iraq war to Jeb Bush (who is and isn’t running for POTUS depending on whether you are the media or the FEC)  knowing what we now  know and seemingly based on his last name?  To answer that, you have to remember what we knew then:  that his brother seemed determined to find a basis for resuming action against Saddam Hussein as a course correction of  his father’s abbreviated  campaign there.  It is a fair question given the blood ties, although the better  question probably would address the current situation and whether a President Jeb Bush would recommit boots on the ground against ISIL/ISIS/DAESH anywhere in the region.

Since this question has been raised, testier members of the media with a clear bias against Hillary Clinton,  like Jake Tapper, never tire of oversimplifying Hillary’s Senate vote to provide then President George W. Bush the power to act if actionable evidence arose.

It is a gross oversimplification to say that Hillary Clinton voted in favor of war in Iraq.  War was not what Senator Clinton voted for.  She voted for an extension of presidential power if it was warranted, and she provided strong parameters for that power along with warnings against abuse of that power.  She was very specific.

It was almost two years ago that I last posted these videos,  and once again I thank Sophie and Karen for finding and preserving them for us.  I would also like to lodge yet another complaint to the U.S. Senate for scrubbing all of her speeches as soon as she resigned and would remind them that the State Department archives video of past speeches.   (I say this knowing all about the issues surrounding space and storage on servers.  For those who really believe that all of those emails would have been archived on the DOS server, it is unlikely.  Server space is finite.  That is why automatic deletion occurs.  This is also why it is smart to create files for emails you want to retain.)

For the doubters and haters out there, rest assured.  Hillary Clinton will not shrink from responding to questions about emails, servers, or plans in the Middle East.

Hillary Clinton, former FLOTUS, former senator, and former secretary of state accompanied by her husband, the former president, attended the  dedication this morning of the George W. Bush Presidential Center.  She appeared to enjoy the event thoroughly.  The relaxation shows.  She was glowing as she stood with the current and other former FLOTUSes.  She is once again wearing kitten heels.

It was a huge event, historic, and fun.  Quintessentially American.  The elder Bushes drew attention – he with his pink socks and she with her always surprising remarks.  When Matt Lauer asked her before the ceremony about Jeb Bush running in 2016, she said there are more qualified people than four families and the country has had enough Bushes.  Bill Clinton referred her as “my mother” so it is possible her message was not only for Jeb but also for her adopted daughter-in-law.  From the looks of things Barb and Hillary get along especially well.

Secretary Clinton always has a kind word to say for her fellow Americans who serve no matter where they stand or have stood on the political spectrum. Secretary Haig was a particularly colorful character in our history. I guess many of us will remember him most for his “I’m in charge,” remark as Secretary of State when President Reagan was shot. He was so impressive with that remark that when I heard the news this morning, I had to think hard to remember that it was George H.W. Bush who was Vice President at the time (and actually was, technically, “in charge”).

Passing of Former Secretary of State Alexander Haig
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
February 20, 2010
I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Secretary of State Alexander Haig. He served his country in many capacities for many years, earning honor on the battlefield, the confidence of Presidents and Prime Ministers, and the thanks of a grateful nation. On behalf of the men and women of the State Department, I extend my sincerest condolences to Secretary Haig’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of them today.
