Did Bernie Sanders really accuse Andrea Mitchell, known Clinton antagonist, of ‘moaning’ to him about Hillary Clinton???? Really?

Bernie Sanders to Andrea Mitchell: “Please Do Not Moan To Me About Hillary Clinton’s Problems”

Sen. Bernie Sanders rejects the premise set up by MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell about his continued presence in the Democratic race negatively impacting Clinton in the general election, saying he is on equal footing with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and can still win.

“Oh, really? Andrea, in every state that we have won, in 19 states, we have had to take on the entire Democratic establishment. We have had to take on senators and governors and mayors and members of Congress, so please do not moan to me about Hillary Clinton’s problems,” Sanders said.

“I don’t think I was moaning about Hillary Clinton’s problems,” Mitchell responded.

“I know it’s a steep climb. … We still have the possibility of coming in with the majority of pledged delegates,” Sanders added.

For the record, Andrea, Hillary is not fighting a war on two fronts.  She is fighting a war for rights and inclusion. She is not running against anybody. She is running for her vision for the people of this country.  And, Bernie, nobody is moaning.  Hillary is running her campaign for us, and she is just fine and has no troubles.

Just saying.

Hillary sat down with John Dickerson on Friday for a segment that aired on Face the Nation this morning.

ICYMI:  The video is here >>>>

DSCN5705

Dickerson asked about her designation of Donald Trump as a “loose cannon,”  Hillary offered as examples his suggestions to: allow other nations to acquire nuclear weapons and  pull out of NATO. Some statements like going back to using torture, going after families of terrorists concern her.

She pointed to Republicans raising questions about their presumptive nominee.  She very carefully differentiated “their nominee” from “Donald Trump.” She said she doesn’t think it is personal but rooted in respect for the office.

DSCN5707

Dickerson asked Hillary what hard questions she would ask Trump. Her general response was to point to a basic vacuum for what he says,

Americans don’t need a raise – based on what? Evidence indicates that he does not understand what is happening in the economy to ordinary people.  She pointed out that Trump does not have a plan,  He has a slogan.

Climate change a Chinese hoax -based on what?  Once again it is a slogan.

Punishing women who have abortions, rounding up immigrants for deportation – what do these statements mean and how would we go about that? She said maybe he doesn’t understand that running the gov not the same as making real estate deals.  Putting the credit of the U.S. at risk would have a horrible outcome.

DSCN5709

Hillary’s website explains all of her plans and how they are paid for so clearly there is a constituency for a candidate who puts specific plans out there, was  She has confidence in common sense of American voter

Hillary is not going to run an ugly race. She is going to run a race based on issues.  She doesn’t feel she is running against Donald Trump. She is running for the vision she has for America and to knock down the barriers that prevent Americans from getting ahead. She is going to stay focused on that,

DSCN5710

Hillary will run an outreach campaign to voters across the political spectrum who want a candidate is running based on issues, has put out plans and will explain them, who has a track record.  Hillary believes people who take their votes seriously will agree with her.

DSCN5711

Was she trying to lead Bernie Sanders to the exit?  She said her 2008 experience is a good reminder of how close she and Obama were then. She and Sanders have a lot of same goals. Will work together toward them and to make sure Donald Trump does not become president.  They shares many goals and she hopes they can work together.

DSCN5712

The emails came up again.  She is looking forward to having that wrapped up. So far no one has reached out to her.  She said it is a security inquiry, she has always taken security very seriously.

DSCN5713

Is there a broader lesson?  Hillary said if you don’t keep learning you will stagnate. Anyone who is running for POTUS should answer the same questions.  Hillary,  “I have 33 years of tax returns in the public domain.” and Donald Trump has none.  “What’s there?”

DSCN5715

She pointed to her record as secretary of state. Has a serous and focused approach to taking care of the nation’s business.

DSCN5716

Hillary said she will stand for American values, interests, and security and that Trump has no coherent foreign policy and makes statements that are of concern.  Why after 70 years trying to prevent proliferation would Trump be so cavalier in wanting other countries to get them?

DSCN5720

The interview ended a bit abruptly on that last note.  To Dickerson’s credit: some of the questions were refreshing and new, and some of the older issues were approached from a fresh perspective.  He did not ask her any wasteful questions that would be better answered by the party or parties who lodge those questions which she always has to answer with “Well I think you would have to ask him/her/them….”  It was one of the better recent interviews in that sense. Very efficient.

Hillary spoke with the editorial board of the L.A. Times this week.  Here is the transcript of that interview.

Transcript

Hillary Clinton speaks to the L.A. Times editorial board about war, women and her ability to navigate partisan obstructionism

The following is a transcript of Hillary Clinton’s phone interview with the Los Angeles Times’ editorial board on May 4, 2016.

Nicholas Goldberg: Welcome. I’m Nick Goldberg, I’m the editor of the editorial pages. We have a lot of questions for you. I’m hoping you can keep your answers kind of short so we go around the room and we can get everyone’s questions in. We’re on the record. I assume that’s OK with you?

Hillary Clinton: Yes it is. Of course.

Goldberg: We have some people here from our newsroom. The rest are from our opinion pages. I was told you would give us a short one or two-minute introduction and then we can lay into you with questions.

Clinton: I appreciate the chance to talk about a lot of the questions that are on your mind.  All I really want to say is that I’m excited about running for president. I believe we’ve got a real chance in this election to lay out an agenda that will, if verified by the voters, move the country forward, create positive results for Americans in their lives, knock down barriers that are holding them back, protect our country, maintain American leadership around the word and unify our nation. I’m more than happy to answer your questions, and we’ll try to get as many in as possible.

In the wake of Donald Trump’s victory last night, Hillary sat down at home in Chappaqua with Anderson Cooper.

DSCN5674 DSCN5675 DSCN5679

Hillary said Trump’s victory was clear for a long time.  She said she has seen the presidency from two different perspectives and knows what it takes.  She took on Trump’s stances:

1. It is OK for other countries to have nukes;

2. Wages are too high;

3. Women should be punished for abortions.

Hillary portrayed Trump as a loose cannon who has said many things, e.g. Climate change is a hoax, and said  “Loose cannons tend to misfire.”

DSCN5676 DSCN5683 DSCN5684

Hillary said she is ready and has been in the arena for 25 years.  She is not running against Trump. She is running for president on the issues she has campaigned.

Hillary said Republicans did not raise issues because they agreed with him.  They were trapped and could not run on issues.  She can. She said that if he wants to argue against peace and prosperity she will argue 22 million jobs created since 2009 and will take that on.

DSCN5681 DSCN5685 DSCN5686

Asked about Trump’s use of the media, Hillary said that grand statements and accusations are one thing, but when you are running for president you have to tell people what you are going to do and how you are going to do it.  It is not enough to call in and get a media platform.

Asked about Trump’s attacks on her trade agreement history, Hillary said, “I am against bad trade agreements and have voted against them”

Hillary said  it is time to get serious. Being a loose cannon does not exempt him from the hard questions.

Cooper brought up Trump the counter-puncher.  Hillary said he is the one who chose that path and is running the negative, aggressive, bullying campaign.

DSCN5687 DSCN5688 DSCN5689

Hillary is going to keep being specific.  Anyone who has listened to Trump knows who he is.

Re: Trump putting coal miners back in the mines, Hillary cited her $30 billion plan for coal country.

Is Hillary ready for the kind of fight Trump will mount? Arguably a National Enquirer tabloid fight?  ” If he wants to go back to the 1990s let him.”

She said he GOP did not know how to run against him and now invites Republicans and Independents to get off the blue and red teams and  onto the American team.

DSCN5691 DSCN5692 DSCN5693

Hillary said she has confidence, is optimistic, and has been consistent.  She will do all she to  can to even the odds for those who have with the deck stacked against them.

She is not calling herself the presumptive nominee.  She has been in Bernie’s shoes but could not close the gap in 08. The gap now is far wider than the 08 gap.  She is counting on Bernie to help defeat Trump.

As for a Veep choice, she will be looking for someone who is ready to be POTUS at a moment’s notice. She will find  a good partner but also a good POTUS.  DSCN5694 DSCN5695

In coal country, Hillary sat down with Andrea Mitchell to explain her $30 billion plan for transition from carbon fuels to clean energy.  Speaking on MSNBC from West Virginia, she stressed the need for safety and protection of health care for miners.

Asked about Donald Trump’s remarks about her, she said women recognize those comments.  Hillary said she will be the voice for women and for every group he attacks. Hillary noted that her remarks about men who “go off the reservation” were in reference to Rudolph Guiliani and Rick Lazio who ran against her an also to Vladimir Putin who blamed her for unrest in Russia. She said she will not respond to every attack from Trump.  She then immediately turned her focus to Trump’s foreign policy statements which provides an indication that her strategy going forward will remain consistent with her strategy all along.  In a morass of personal mudslinging from no matter whom, Hillary Clinton will pivot to issues.

As for comments from the Sanders camp, she said he has every right to finish the cycle and told Andrea she would have to ask Bernie about his recent inconsistencies in tone.

Hillary doubled down on her stand that we should first stick to the current standard of putting out tax returns before initiating a new standard, paid speeches, that only she is being held to.  She said Trump has made more money on speeches than she.

Finally, Hillary spoke of the epidemic of opiate addiction. An event she held earlier centered on that topic.

Speaking exclusively with Jake Tapper at The Lead, Hillary said she doesn’t consider herself the presumptive nominee but thinks the nomination is in sight.   She emphasized several times that she is going to work together with Bernie Sanders.  She said her connection with her supporters is strong and his with his supporters is also strong.  She is confident that they will bring everyone together.  The intra-party divide is familiar and will play itself out. Everyone is invested in the campaigns. She praised Sanders for bringing people in but said eventually reality has to take over.

Re: Trump taking Sanders supporters: “We are going to be reaching out to them as well.”  She pointed out the issues Trump and Sanders disagree on like the environment, equal pay, getting money out of politics and reminded Tapper that Citizens United was against her.

Hillary said she found Trump’s foreign policy disturbing and lacked specifics on how things would be done.

Attacks from Trump are silly, she said.  Attacks on her are not so important.  She is more concerned about his attacks on groups like women, for example.

Has she learned anything from watching Republicans deal with him?  Hillary said she has a lot of experience dealing with attacks from men. He can continue on his “insult fest.”

As for his attacks on her trade policy history hurting her with blue-collar voters, Hillary pointed out that she won Ohio and his attacks on trade deals will not get in her way.  Hillary has a track record on standing up against China and on the side of working people.  She said we don’t do enough for people who are hurt by trade deals.  On the other hand, she cited a plant in Indiana where they are making Mercedes Benz cars for export to China.

She said the voters will have to determine if Trump is qualified.  She is going to lay out her own qualifications.  It never crossed her mind that she would face Trump in an election.

After the interview re-aired on Sunday’s State of the Union, CNN released the full video.

In the aftermath to this interview, Nina Turner said, speaking “as a historian,” that Hillary Clinton should beg off using “off the reservation.” In Living History Hillary stated of her grandmother who raised her:  “Della Murray, was one of nine children from a family of French-Canadian, Scottish and Native American ancestry.”

Issue 1. New York took a chance on her and she is committed to the state. They’ve had her back she will have theirs and it won’t be over till till’s over.

DSCN5054DSCN5048 DSCN5056 DSCN5058 DSCN5065 DSCN5068 DSCN5069 DSCN5072

Issue 2. Wall St. Hillary called Bernie’s comments a strange critique and noted that Sanders could not cite an instance where contributions had influenced her. Obama accepted such contributions and was not influenced. As NY Senator she did call them out.  Also cited Sanders’s inability to say how he would accomplish breaking up the banks paired with his failure to understand that she wants to go further after hedge funds, big insurance and mortgage companies.

DSCN5074 DSCN5075 DSCN5077 DSCN5079 DSCN5080 DSCN5081 DSCN5082 DSCN5084 DSCN5087

Issue 3. Trust. It’s unfair to say she can’t be trusted NY has trusted her twice.  Obama trusted her.  When she has a job she gets good marks, but any time she runs this kind of criticism is in the air and they pile on.  But when she gets the job people see her working hard and getting things done.

Issue 4. Nastiness in this race:  She is surprised at what the Sanders campaign says and implies.  Surrogate attacks are not just on her but on her supporters.  Says he needs to listen to the people who support him and he has played along with the negativity.  She said that is not what matters.

DSCN5114 DSCN5116 DSCN5117 DSCN5120 DSCN5121 DSCN5122 DSCN5123 DSCN5125 DSCN5126 DSCN5127 DSCN5128 DSCN5132

Issue 5.  What matters is that they have tried to stay on the issues  to put forth very specific plans.  She wants New Yorkers to know what she will do.  It’s not enough to diagnose the problems.  You  also have to have solutions to the problems  She has not heard plans from Sanders.  She cited the long interviews with NYDN.  They both went an hour with the editorial board. NYDN endorsed her because they were surprised he had no solutions.

George Stephanopoulos interviewed Hillary yesterday in California for a piece that aired on This Week this morning.

Transcript here >>>>

DSCN4972DSCN4974

Issue 1: The Fight for 15.  Has supported the Fight for 15 and that movement has endorsed her.  Both she and Sanders support raising minimum wage and Republicans do not. Stood with Cuomo and and supported this. Re: earlier statements regarding $12 federal minimum. No big contrast.  The model is a phased in increase constantly evaluating economic conditions so there are no unintended consequences and would sign $15 if Congress passed it.  That movement stands with her.

Issue 2:  Speech transcripts.  Concerned with the changing set of standards when it comes to her.  Her tax records:  33 years released and eight years on her website.  Has said she would release speech transcripts.  Trumps’s new name for her:  She does not respond to Trump’s personal attacks on her but to his attacks on others. He can say what he wants about her.  She will stay focused on the issues.

DSCN5002 DSCN5005 DSCN5006 DSCN5009 DSCN5010 DSCN5011

Issue 3:  Bernie’s remarks about her victories in the Deep South. Hillary doesn’t know what he was talking about.  The South is part of our country and comes into play in an election.  She values every voter and is not writing off any state or region.  Wants to be president for all of America.

DSCN5012 DSCN5014 DSCN5016

Issue 4:  Is it getting harder to heal the party?  No.  She went all the way to June in 2008 and endorsed Obama, nominated him and worked to unify the party.  Will work hard to secure the nomination and earn the support of those supporting Sanders.

DSCN5019 DSCN5020 DSCN5021

Issue 5:  The right to sue state sponsors of terrorism.  She said she is not conversant on Schumer’s specific bill.

Addendum:

Following this interview, Merrill released the following statement on Twitter, saying Clinton backs the bill:

“Hillary Clinton supports the efforts by Senator Schumer and his colleagues in the Senate to secure the ability of 9/11 families and other victims of terrorist acts to hold accountable those responsible. As president she would work with Congress to this end.”

Issue 6:  Email issue.  Has not spoken with Obama on the issue. Has not endangered national security.

Issue 7: Tuesday. Loves being in New York and working hard for a victory, but also working for Democrats up and down the ticket national, state and local.
