FORMER U.S. PRESIDENTS’ “ONE AMERICA APPEAL” OFFICIALLY EXPANDS TO INCLUDE IRMA RECOVERY

Initial plan to raise funds for organizations helping Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas and Houston now will also direct monies raised to the Florida Disaster Fund

The “One America Appeal” launched last week by all five living former presidents to raise private money for hurricane victims today announced that their efforts will also aid Floridians impacted by Hurricane Irma through the Florida Disaster Fund, following its activation by Governor Rick Scott.

The Florida Disaster Fund is the State of Florida’s official private fund established to assist the state’s communities as they respond to and recover from destructive storms. In partnership with the public sector, private sector and other non-governmental organizations, the Florida Disaster Fund supports response and recovery activities.

One hundred percent of funds donated to the Florida Disaster Fund will go toward disaster-related response and recovery because the fund has no overhead costs.

This weekend, One America Appeal is also launching a second public service announcement, “One America Appeal,” which will air during the NFL’s telecasts all day Sunday and Monday night. The PSA alerts viewers that online, tax-deductible donations may continue to be made at OneAmericaAppeal.org.

A special restricted account has been established through the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation to collect and quickly distribute donations to ensure 100 cents out of every dollar goes to assist hurricane victims. In addition to the Florida Disaster Recovery Fund, donations will also be shared with the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund focusing on the greater Houston region, and the Rebuild Texas Fund assisting communities across the state.

The PSA “One America Appeal” can now be seen online at OneAmericaAppeal.org.

FORMER U.S. PRESIDENTS LAUNCH “ONE AMERICA APPEAL” TO HELP HURRICANE VICTIMS

Appeal initially planned to raise funds for organizations helping Hurricane Harvey victims;
will be expanded to also help those affected by Hurricane Irma

All five living former American presidents have joined together to issue the “One America Appeal” to ask their fellow citizens and friends around the world to support the staggering recovery needs from Hurricane Harvey. As the nation carefully watches the advance of Hurricane Irma, the presidents stand ready to expand their appeal to help those affected by that storm.

The appeal will launch with the PSA “Our Friends in Texas,” which airs tonight on the NFL’s regular season opening game on NBC, and will continue with additional support and promotion from the NFL. A second PSA that addresses both hurricanes will launch over the weekend. A website for online donations is now live at OneAmericaAppeal.org.

The former presidents were inspired to come together to lend their support to the people and communities affected and to the first responders, organizations, volunteers and neighbors who have been providing assistance to victims of Hurricane Harvey. Harvey has already displaced more than one million people and caused an estimated $180 billion in damages over its 300-mile path of destruction.

A special restricted account has been established through the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation to collect and quickly distribute donations to ensure 100 cents out of every dollar goes to assist hurricane victims. Donations are tax deductible. Funds designated to help victims of Hurricane Harvey will be distributed to the Houston Harvey Relief Fund focusing on the greater Houston region, and the Rebuild Texas Fund assisting communities across the state.

Now, as Hurricane Irma batters other communities and is predicted to hit many more, efforts are underway to evaluate how this appeal can help those affected by that storm.

The PSA “Our Friends in Texas” can now be seen online at OneAmericaAppeal.org. Other video materials, including the second PSA, will be added in the coming days.

I know we all get a lot of emails from many people – big names included – asking us to support Hillary.  This one is special.  Thank you President Carter!  We love you!

During my 1976 presidential run, a young woman moved to Indianapolis to help turn out the Indiana vote for me. Forty years later, I will proudly cast my vote for that same woman to be the next President of the United States.

Hillary is going to need more than just my vote, though. She’s got to keep building a campaign that can beat Trump soundly, and that takes resources. Chip in $5 to make sure her team raises $10 million by the FEC deadline on August 31st.

I’ve known Hillary for decades — and her record as a public servant is superb. In 1977, I appointed her to the board of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), a nonprofit that provides legal assistance to Americans in need — she went on to become the first woman to chair the board. Over her tenure, funding for the LSC tripled, allowing the organization to expand legal aid to every congressional district, and handle 1.5 million cases for poor clients each year. As First Lady, Clinton continued to advocate for legal services funding.

That’s a special thing about Hillary — when there’s a job worth doing, she doesn’t abandon it. Work she did decades ago, like founding Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families or helping start the Children’s Health Insurance program, is still changing lives today. Her entire career has been a fight for progress, and as our president, she’ll make sure we’re on the cutting edge of civil rights, economic justice, climate change, and more. She is the only candidate prepared to take us into the future.

We owe it to ourselves to make her our next Commander-in-Chief. Donate now to make sure real American values are protected for generations to come:

Hillary Clinton, former FLOTUS, former senator, and former secretary of state accompanied by her husband, the former president, attended the  dedication this morning of the George W. Bush Presidential Center.  She appeared to enjoy the event thoroughly.  The relaxation shows.  She was glowing as she stood with the current and other former FLOTUSes.  She is once again wearing kitten heels.

It was a huge event, historic, and fun.  Quintessentially American.  The elder Bushes drew attention – he with his pink socks and she with her always surprising remarks.  When Matt Lauer asked her before the ceremony about Jeb Bush running in 2016, she said there are more qualified people than four families and the country has had enough Bushes.  Bill Clinton referred her as “my mother” so it is possible her message was not only for Jeb but also for her adopted daughter-in-law.  From the looks of things Barb and Hillary get along especially well.
