Hillary Clinton joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show last night for the first time since the campaign season when he hosted both her and her opponent, the well-known TV figure.
It was highly emotional from the moment Fallon brought on female staffers who wanted to write Thank You Notes (a staple on the show, but normally on Fridays) to Hillary. Miley Cyrus, guest co-host for the week, was the last in line and brought me to tears. Then Hillary wrote her own thank you note. It was touching, real. Unless you are a total dolt, you knew, watching this, what we have lost. But you also gained hope in what comes next because it is these young women and all they represented last night.
Fallon has taken a lot of flack for being too hospitable to Trump back in the general election. Perhaps this absolves him. I am not sure. But Hillary certainly knows him and knows he has two little girls. I had the impression that her advice to him, back when we were all so young and hopeful, to read to them, sing to them, talk to them, made more of an impression on him than DJT’s hair.
It’s too late now for Jimmy to rethink being even-handed or maybe even too playful and carefree when we were faced with a deadly serious choice. Did Jimmy redeem himself? I think Hillary allowed it. But I also think that the reason she was a guest this week was because Miley was co-host. When Hillary was on SNL, Miley was the guest musician.
The general impression was that a gang of women set Jimmy back on track. For him it may be too little too late, but for them it was their night in history. Powerful.
After Hillary’s appearance, Miley sang Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ dedicated to Hillary, and we all tweeted Nancy and said “YES!”
Update: Wednesday’s “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” featured Miley Cyrus, who was appearing as part of her “Miley Week” residency on the show.
It also featured a visit from Hillary Clinton.
One segment brought the two women together.
The segment involved Cyrus and writers from “The Tonight Show” penning “Thank You Notes” to Clinton.
Clinton also appeared for an interview on the episode, while Cyrus participated in two performances — “Islands In The Stream” and “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.”
A video of the “Thank You Notes” segment follows. Additional videos will be posted upon availability. Photos from the taping are also embedded.

Miley Cyrus’ ‘Tonight Show’ residency continues, and boy did it get emotional on Oct. 4. The ‘Malibu’ singer met her idol Hillary Clinton and broke down in tears of admiration while asking for a hug.
Miley Cyrus, 24, really wore her heart on her sleeve on the Oct. 4 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. While she’s been the musical guest all week long, her political hero, Hillary Clinton, 69, was the only other guest on the show so Miley finally got to meet her and it was epic! The singer turned up at the end of host Jimmy Fallon‘s “Thank you notes” sketch with the former Secretary of State. After a number of young female staff writers came on and “wrote” cards of praise thanking the former Democratic presidential nominee for being such an inspiration, Miley came on last and almost immediately burst into tears upon being in Hillary’s presence.
“Thank you Hillary…(sniff)…Clinton for being a constant beacon of strength, hope and determination for me an millions of other young women. You’ve been a role model and an inspiration and a voice of reason in uncertain times. I could go on and on but I’d like to get right to the point. Can I give you a hug?” she said while weeping. Hillary was SO touched and of course she let Miley give her a great big hug.
Hillary taped a visit with Jimmy Fallon on Friday (i.e. before the terrorist attacks of the weekend). The show aired Monday night.
Jimmy greeted her with a surgical mask and hand sanitizer.
Jimmy found a bag left behind in Hillary’s dressing room by Donald Trump on his visit last week.
The contents were a framed picture of Putin, a CD, and a bag of softballs.
Hillary told Jimmy she played softball on the “Good ‘n’ Plenty” team. She pitched and played outfield. I also played outfield. I always took Hillary for a shortstop. Seems to me she can be wherever she needs to be – wherever the ball is coming down.
I once read that Hillary Clinton excels at Tetris. Since I also am very good at that game, I have always wanted to challenge her to a face-off, but she just doesn’t have that kind of time, and, following her, neither do I. It is appropriate, nevertheless, that this week the Democratic Party has behaved like a game of Tetris with the tiles tumbling in fast and furiously.
Earlier in the week (I can’t believe this is all in the same week), contacted by Associated Press, enough uncommitted special delegates decided to commit to Hillary on the eve of the last Super Tuesday of the primary season giving her the clinch even before the polls opened. The next day Hillary dominated in four of the six states.
President Obama wasted no time in jumping on the Hillary bus, endorsing her today shortly after meeting privately with Senator Sanders. Whether the timing was planned or coincidental, former presidential candidate Martin O’Malley also came out with a strong endorsement today.
Hillary Clinton on Thursday at last secured the endorsement she’d long sought — and she also won the backing of Martin O’Malley.
It’s not clear if it was by design or he was just a victim of unfortunate timing, but not long after President Obama announced his support of Clinton as the presumptive Democratic Party nominee, O’Malley said that he, too, was backing his former 2016 rival, in an endorsement that will unquestionably be overshadowed.
In a series of tweets, O’Malley said “for the future of the country, I am committing my energies to the election of Secretary Clinton as the next president.”
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a hero to liberal progressives ideologically aligned with Bernie Sanders’ anti-Wall Street rhetoric, will endorse presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton Thursday night on MSNBC’s the Rachel Maddow Show.
The endorsement will come during an exclusive live interview beginning at 9 p.m.
Warren’s announcement comes the same day President Barack Obama formally backed Clinton in a video lauding her qualifications for the job.
“I’m ready,” she said Thursday on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show. “I am ready to get in this fight and work my heart out for Hillary Clinton to become the next president of the United States and to make sure that Donald Trump never gets anyplace close to the White House.”
Vice President Joe Biden also criticized Donald Trump during a speech at the American Constitution Society convention on Thursday.
Vice President Joe Biden endorsed presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for president on Thursday, hours after President Barack Obama publicly declared his support for Clinton.
“In my view, God willing, it’ll be Secretary Clinton,” Biden said, referring to the next president, during an address at the American Constitution Society convention in Washington.
“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
“The Postal Service is consistently ranked as the most trusted government agency, and the brothers and sisters of NALC are one reason why. Since our nation’s founding, efficient and effective mail service has connected families and enabled commerce. Today, more than 160 billion pieces of mail travel through the postal system each year—many of them in the hands of a Letter Carrier.
“As President, I will stand with the Letter Carriers to protect workers’ fundamental rights to organize, to bargain collectively, to be safe on the job, and to retire with dignity and security. And I will work with the Letter Carriers to build a bright future for the postal system and postal workers in the 21st century. I know that the postal system is still a vital lifeline for American communities from coast to coast, and recognize the Letter Carriers’ vital role in building the American middle class.
“Above all, workers deserve a seat at the table and a champion in the White House. Because when workers are strong, families are strong—and when families are strong, America is strong.”
The Democratic Party is unifying behind Hillary very quickly while the Republicans remain in disarray over remarks by Donald Trump and the image he projects as “leader” of the party. Apparently the remarks are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to potential problems posed by the presumptive nominee of the GOP who likes to cite in unspecific numbers the “many” people, “hundreds” of people who support his unfiltered comments and positions.
Donald Trump casts himself as a protector of workers and jobs, but a USA TODAY NETWORK investigation found hundreds of people – carpenters, dishwashers, painters, even his own lawyers – who say he didn’t pay them for their work.
Back in October, after the first debate, I said this: ” I was proud of my party watching this debate and proudest of my candidate, Hillary Clinton, who did a superlative job.” I am proud again today..
Look for President Obama tonight on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The segment was recorded yesterday, before the big endorsement today.
Hillary revisited Jimmy Fallon at the Tonight Show. She said Donald Trump is a lot more obsessed with her than she is with him. Fun visit. If you missed it, you can catch it at the Tonight Show website.

Hillary is such a good sport and so down to earth. This was a lot of fun, but serious too.
Washington (CNN)Hillary Clinton will sit down for an interview with CNN’s Alisyn Camerota that will air Tuesday just before President Barack Obama delivers his final State of the Union address.

Excerpts from the interview will air at 7 p.m. on Tuesday on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront,” and the full interview will air on Wednesday during “New Day.”
TV host Amanda de Cadenet tells PEOPLE that when she sat down with Clinton on her talk show The Conversation for an interview airing Jan. 13 at 10 p.m. ET on Lifetime, she had one objective: to get to know Clinton not as a politician, but as a woman.
The State Department was releasing emails, Republicans on the Select Committee were in full attack mode, and the first campaign stop, after an interview with Andrea Mitchell, was San Juan, Puerto Rico. The topic was health care.
On the 20th anniversary of her Beijing speech, Hillary launched her Women for Hillaryinitiative in Portsmouth NH and received Jeanne Shaheen’s endorsement.
She may not be campaigning this week, but that will not keep Hillary Clinton off the TV screen. Her appearance with Fallon will re-air tonight. It is a must-see. Thursday, C-SPAN will cover her long-awaited testimony before the House Select Committee on Benghazi.
Hillary Clinton testifies before the House Select Committee on Benghazi, which is investigating the events surrounding the 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate there, in which Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others died.
Monday night, Carly Fiorina was Jimmy Fallon’s guest on the Tonight Show. She was personable, which I did not expect. She was entertaining – especially when she sang at the end. If you go to the Tonight Show website you can see the cherry-picked clips wherein Carly Fiorina actually seems … what’s the word I am looking for? Likable?
The clips show far from the whole story though. They are the highlights and ignore the deep, dark, scary stuff she sandwiched into the middle while fast-talking like Rosalind Russell in a 1930’s movie about a … well … a female CEO.
To see these comments, you have to access the full episodeand fast forward to Fiorina’s segment. It involves sitting through a lot of commercials. I am sorry. Nothing you can do about those. There is no “skip ad” option.
She began with language Hillary’s people identify with and agree with. Faith is good. There was something sweet from her mother about God’s gifts to you and your gift to God being fulfilling the use of your God-given gifts. This stemmed, of course, from Ben Carson’s recent remarks. She absolutely disagrees with Carson, because, of course, all faith is good. The Pope is also good, but Democrats are bad and fail to agree with him on the sanctity of life.
Carly met Vladimir Putin once at APEC. Let’s take this one in two parts.
APEC: Apparently Fiorina wants to push this one APEC speech as her official foreign policy experience. She repeats endlessly her mantra about Hillary Clinton’s tenure at the State department being all about air miles. If you do a search on this blog for APEC this is where the search takes you.
Note that first entry, the most recent. Republicans like to send up choruses of “Where was Hillary when Benghazi was under attack?” In fact, she had just flown in from APEC in Vladivostok at the end of an extensive and exhausting trip and many conferences. It was never unusual for Secretary Clinton to go straight to C Street from the plane. She flew in late and was at the office the next morning, just for the record.
Also for the record, can Carly Fiorina name other international conferences where she has addressed and rubbed elbows with world leaders?
Now for Putin with whom Carly shared a few minutes in the green room before a speech once. I am picturing him now trying to remember ever encountering her. She says he can be charming and funny. Hillary knows that. She also knows he can be stubborn and dismissive of women. Dealing with that dismissiveness requires knowing that it exists.
On this particular trip, Hillary was not scheduled to meet with Putin about the Iran sanctions. Uh – yes, parenthetically. Hillary worked hard for years to get those sanctions. She had flown in from a St. Patrick’s Day full of meetings with a host of Irish officials, stopped over at Shannon for refueling and greeted returning troops also there refueling. As of the 18th, no meeting with Putin was on the agenda. Then this.
Then this. It was not the first time she was not scheduled to meet with him and managed to wrangle him into a pow-wow. The bonus was that she got results. Sometimes I think that Hillary does things to be able to say that she gave it her best effort. Hillary’s best efforts get excellent results. Putin liked to leave Hillary to Lavrov and Medvedev, but she knew when she needed to sit with him, and she got those meetings and got results.
Fiorina says she would not speak to him at all. That would suit him just fine. There is something to be gained from a one-on-one with him as Hillary Clinton knows.
Let me be clear, this is not about the sanctions themselves with which you may agree or disagree. It is about Hillary Clinton. Yesterday I said that I thought Putin would be impervious to her persuasive powers given that he appears to be very dedicated to the manufacture of nuclear energy as an export business for Russia. Well, if this report is accurate, I, one of the die-hard Hillary Hold-Outs (yes, a Hi-Ho) am now *hanging head in shame* for having doubted that she could get Putin to concede – even if it is a little. Note to self: Never again underestimate Hillary Rodham Clinton’s ability to argue a good case.
Well, here we have the transcript of Secretary Clinton’s remarks with Putin. Actually, I fail to see where he “bombarded” her (as I saw it characterized in the press). He called her “Your Excellency.” 🙂 Even if he had “bombarded” her, she is used to it and knows that it is not personal. She knows her job.
Remarks With Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Before Their Meeting
Then came Carly Fiorina as Napoleon. Only taller … and female. This is the part the Tonight Show web editors figured you did not need to see and can see only if you painstakingly go through the video and consume all the commercials. Sorry.
Rather than speak to Putin, here is what Mme. President Fiorina would do. I am not sure you will see this elsewhere.
Immediately start rebuilding the 6th fleet;
Rebuild the missile defense program in Poland;
Conduct regular military exercises in the Baltics;
Put 1000 more troops in Germany;
Lead in Syria as, she said we should have three years ago and Obama and Clinton have not.
I take strong exception to that last allegation! Look here >>>>>
I also wonder where those extra 1000 troops will be coming from. Fallon did not ask. His job was to keep things light.
That is what is between the sweetbread of Carly’s Mom’s faithful advice in the beginning of the segment and the song for Snickers to a 1950s rock tune at the end. Note to Carly Fiorina: The Cold War is over. Note to Republicans in general, the 1950s are over.
Other candidates are making the late night rounds. Bernie Sanders was on with Colbert, and the night Fiorina was with Fallon, Ted Cruz was with Colbert. Meh.
All the Republicans are working from the same talking points memo about Hillary except Fiorina who has her own Hillary attack system.
We have our own Hillary defense system. Carly Fiorina may be the Republican female candidate whom they are pitting against Hillary Clinton. The comparison ends at female. Fiorina likes to tell people she began as a secretary. She lacks Hillary’s brand of secretarial experience, however, by thousands of air miles, summits, conferences, treaties, strategic plans, MOUs, and handshakes. In no way does she measure up.
****EDITED TO ADD****
Well he is up to something, Carly, and I seriously doubt that not speaking to him is the wisest foreign policy. Grow up. Stop singing your mom’s Bill Haley and the Comets songs, or whatever that was. Not speak to him? What is wrong with you? Oh, wait! I know! You shouldn’t be running for president. It is that simple. Well you can if you want to but you are #WrongForAmerica.
Bloomberg) — President Vladimir Putin, determined to strengthen Russia’s only military outpost in the Middle East, is preparing to launch unilateral airstrikes against Islamic State from inside Syria if the U.S. rejects his proposal to join forces, two people familiar with the matter said.
Putin’s preferred course of action, though, is for America and its allies to agree to coordinate their campaign against the terrorist group with Russia, Iran and the Syrian army, which the Obama administration has so far resisted, according to a person close to the Kremlin and an adviser to the Defense Ministry in Moscow.

U.S. ‘Receptive’
SNIP
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday the U.S. has become more “receptive” to Moscow’s position. The U.S. has tempered two planks of its Syrian policy — that Assad must step down immediately and that it won’t negotiate with his government, according to comments made by Secretary of State John Kerry on Sept. 17.
The next day, the U.S. and Russian defense chiefs held direct talks for the first time since the conflict in Ukraine started. They agreed to continue dialog to prevent clashes between their forces in Syria.
