NEW CASTLE – Hillary and Bill Clinton and Gov. Andrew Cuomo marched in Monday’s town Memorial Day parade.
The marchers wound down King Street where thousands of people lined the streets waving American flags and cheering the parade participants. A few held signs in memory of family members killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
“I’m just very grateful,” Hillary Clinton said in an interview with reporters during the march. “This is a way of honoring and respecting and remembering everyone who has fought for and sacrificed for our freedom.”

Last year, we all were so sure that this year she would be at Arlington laying wreaths. That was not to be. But despite the rain and chilly temps, Hillary marched in Chappaqua today with former President Bill Clinton and Governor Andrew Cuomo. The pipes and drums braved the weather in their rain gear. Our friend Oscar Flores marched too, as always!

It will probably be the last time for awhile that Hillary will be able to march in her hometown parade. Next year, she will be leading ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery. Chappaqua showed itself to be solidly behind her today. The local grassroots group, Chappaqua Friends of Hillary, gathered to distribute stickers and cupcakes and to sign up volunteers. Dawn Evans Greenberg organized the effort, and her team did a great job! Up and down South Greeley, folks were sporting Hillary stickers as they cheered the parade: the vets, the scouts, the bands, the pipers, the musketeers, the first responders, the soccer kids, Governor Cuomo, and both Clintons.
The morning had been iffy. It had rained – no poured. But as folks began setting up, the drizzle stopped and the sun began trying to break through.
The Hillary tent was where the action was. Everyone wanted to pose with the cutout of Hillary. One little girl about three-years-old called to the Hillary figure as she walked past. “Hillary!” There were homemade signs, lots of Hillary gear, and kids- lots of kids and lots of dogs!
Then came the parade!
The Revolutionary War contingent shot off their muskets every 1000 yards or so – deafening. The kids loved it!
As the parade ended everyone drifted to the ceremonies at the monument on the green.
Our fallen heroes deserve our profound gratitude for giving their lives to protect our freedom, today and every day. #MemorialDay -H
The sun came out. The roads dried up. Hillary was happy to see us. She said “Thank you, so much,” and put two thumbs up.
Addendum:
It seems there are questions about the Navy officer next to Hillary. He is Oscar Flores, U.S. Navy Ret., who worked in the White House during the first Clinton administration and is employed by them now in his retirement. If you have read any of the many emails Hillary released, you will see his name on some of them. The Clinton family attended his retirement celebration some years ago. He is a trusted friend and member of the household and deserving of our thanks and respect for his service. So, please no more malarkey. He has been there all along. He is an officer and a gentleman. Please be respectful and thank him for his service!

Thank you, Rumana Alvi, for these great pictures!
Friend —
I learned the meaning of Memorial Day from my father, Hugh.
During World War II, my dad was a chief petty officer at the Great Lakes Naval Station outside of Chicago, responsible for training thousands of sailors before they went to the Pacific Theater. Sometimes, my dad accompanied his trainees to the West Coast before they shipped out. He told me later that it broke his heart to know that some of them would never come home.
When my dad died twenty-two years ago, many sailors who had served under him sent me letters and photographs. My favorite photo shows my dad in his uniform smiling broadly. To me, he looked as handsome as any 1940s movie star. It meant a great deal to me that these men took time to honor my dad, the same way my dad taught us to honor those who fell in the line of duty.
Today, I hope we’ll all take a moment to remember the many men and women who gave their lives to protect our country. These brave Americans knew that freedom is earned by each new generation.
My thoughts today are with those families whose sons and daughters sacrificed so much so that all our children can be safe. I hope all of us will honor their memories with our own service to our country, and to each other.
Thank you,
Hillary
We have a sacred responsibility to those who serve and sacrifice for this country—today we remember and honor the values they fought for. -H

The vets were in perfect form along with all the uniformed services. Chappaqua was declared a Purple Heart Town. The bridge into town was dedicated to Army Staff Sgt. Kyu H. Chay who was born in South Korea, grew up in Mount Kisco, and died serving in Afghanistan.
The weather was perfect, beautiful, warm, and sunny. The Greeley High School band and the Kerry Pipers were in perfect and touching tune. Hillary Clinton was swarmed by admirers. A few long-time Hillary buddies showed up. Of course Maggie Mae, pup reporter, was on the scene with her mom and collaborator, Ronni Diamondstein, and channel 12 and channel 4 news. Ronni was interviewed by channel 4. Governor Cuomo, who lives there, was on Staten Island at another parade, and his opponent, Rob Astorino marched with Hillary.
It was a lovely, and special day.

It was a perfectly beautiful day, and I was lucky enough this year to meet up with a group of Hillary friends for the Memorial Day parade and ceremonies. In addition to the pictures I took myself, I have some shared by friends.
There were wonderful pipes and drums, and the Horace Greeley High School band played flawlessly. Girl Scouts of Troop 120 placed the wreath. It was great to see girls doing it. There were many, many dogs, some with flag bandanas, and all were well-behaved throughout.
One special doggie I finally got to meet was Maggie Mae, Pup Reporter, who writes a pet column for Grace Bennett’s Inside Chappaqua Magazine. Maggie’s mom, Ronni Diamondstein, has written an article featuring this blog for the June issue.
Ronni and her canine cub reporter had their picture taken with Hillary. It was very hard to get close, but I cropped a few where you can see Ronni and Hillary. In one shot, you can also see Maggie Mae.
I want to thank especially Rumana Alvi, Sharon Yarborough, and Rosemary Rowlands (who had her picture taken with Hillary) for sharing their images with me. It was a wonderful day, and yes, I did get to talk with Hillary. No, it was not about 2016. Sorry, but as I have said here often, that is the best way to waste your two minutes with Hillary Rodham Clinton. What a beautiful day with a beautiful lady and her loyalists in her hometown!
I would like to thank Mme. Secretary for her kindness and patience taking time to meet me. She is most gracious and generous. One thing I forgot to ask – I was so blown away by her kind attention – was how I could get her press releases.
On with the show!

My dear friend Rumana gave me these cute pictures of Mme. Secretary and Mr. President attending the Chappaqua Memorial Day Parade this morning. Thank you, Rumana!
Wishing everyone a reflective and safe holiday.
**Update** The first eight pics are from Rumana. The last six are from this article that I just found. My word! 2016? I have not put that year in the same context with Mme. Secretary’s name. It is her choice. Her decision. Personally, I do not think the country should have to wait that long.
