His daughter Adia quoted Eminem. Kweisi Mfume quoted Sartre and Frost. Staffer Harry Spikes quoted Bruce Lee and The Lion King. And, of course, many quoted Elijah Eugene Cummings, aka ‘Bobby.’ It was a celebratory sendoff for a true Lion of the House. The recessional was ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ as you have never heard it before. We will not see his like.
Elijah Cummings was a resounding voice of moral courage who fought the good fights for the people of Baltimore, and faithfully honored his oath to protect and defend the Constitution with a passion, skill, determination, and dignity rarely matched in our history. He worked for affordable, quality health care, educational and economic opportunities, and environmental justice for all Americans. And he led the House Committee on Oversight and Reform in finding facts, exposing fictions, and demanding that our government be accountable. Hillary and I are grateful to have served with him and for his friendship. Our thoughts and prayers are with Maya and the Cummings family.
Congressman Cummings had a simple philosophy: Do something. No matter how daunting a problem seems, no matter how helpless you feel, surely there is something you can do.
Those are the words Elijah lived by, and the path he left for the rest of us to follow.
Hillary and Bill Clinton attended a dinner last night honoring Nancy Pelosi. According to this article, the dinner was held at the Italian Embassy, and Tony Bennett was there to serenade his pal with his classic tribute to San Francisco.

After she left, House Democrats commenced a sit-in in the House chamber that is ongoing. The purpose is to force a vote on gun legislation. House cameras and mics have been turned off, but C-SPAN is streaming Periscope video from Scott Peters.
The funeral for former First Lady Nancy Reagan was held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley CA. Rev. Stuart Kenworthy, Vicar of the National Cathedral, officiated. First Lady Michelle Obama, Former President George W. Bush, former First Ladies Laura Bush and Rosalynn Carter attended. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy was there along with other former First Daughters Lynda Johnson Robb and Tricia Nixon Cox. I am pretty sure I saw Susan Ford Bales. Nancy Pelosi, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver were there and also Former First Lady, Senator, Secretary of State, and next President of the United States, Hillary Clinton.

Former Canadian PM Brian Mulroney, Former Secretary of State James Baker, Tom Brokaw, Patti Davis, and Ron Reagan gave stirring and humorous eulogies. Ron, endearingly, had a little bit of trouble controlling his emotion near the end of his tribute.
The Ave Maria, Amazing Grace, and the Battle Hymn of the Republic were sung.

The sky opened up and it poured. That is always a good sign and a blessing at a funeral.
Patti and Ron did a great job. The arrangements were beautiful. Condolences to the family and best compliments on a beautiful service and memorial to your mom.

Hillary greeted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Diane Feinstein, Carole King, and a flock of California representatives at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco to raise funds for Democratic congressional candidates.
You do, eventually, become your mother. You know that. So, like me, you probably are finding yourself saying, “Lord, give me patience!” That is also a prayer. We call them aspirations, little prayers.
If you were to any extent conscious on August 26, 2008, if you saw the bogus roll call vote on that day of celebration of women’s suffrage, you know why, once again, my mom’s words escape my lips.
I know I did not hallucinate that day in August 2008. I know I saw this person preside jubilantly at the nomination of a half-term Senator against HER! Against the woman we have always known was the one.
So she has finally come to Hillary? Lord give me patience! (Or am I supposed to say “Amen?” or “Hallelujah?” I am confused.)
Today would have been my mom’s 97th birthday.
Pelosi says she ‘prays’ Hillary Clinton will run for president
House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that she “prays” Hillary Rodham Clinton will run for president.
Pelosi, D-Calif., speaking in Little Rock about current affairs in American politics, said she had no inside information about whether Clinton will run. But, she said, she considers Clinton the most qualified potential nominee.
“I pray that Hillary Clinton decides to run for president of the United States,” Pelosi said, drawing loud applause from the crowd of several hundred at the Robinson Center. “… Nobody has been first lady and senator and now secretary of state. Putting everything aside that she is a woman, she’d be the best qualified person that we’ve seen [in recent years].”
Most of these were not taken during the service which was not photographed, apparently. That is Maya Angelou in the wheelchair beside the casket. The white-haired guy kissing Hillary is her HUGE FAN Orrin Hatch who tried single-handedly to nominate her to SCOTUS.
One hundred forty-three of us are members of Dr. Lynette Long’s Facebook group: Put A Woman In Statuary Hall. Today, in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the National Women’s History Project, Nancy Pelosi did just that. No, she did not dedicate a statue, but she honored, in Statuary Hall, a flesh and blood, living and breathing hero for women and girls all over the world, Secretary of State Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton. There is an earlier post here (scroll down) with a video and text Of Secretary Clinton’s remarks at this event, but I could not resist posting a pictorial review. (I also could not resist including my pal, Charlie Rangel, who was not near Hillary at the time, but just to say, “Hi, Charlie!” I have met him, and he is a good guy. He also is the one who suggested Hillary move to New York and run for the Senate. I am forever grateful for that.) And now, heeerrrrrre’s Hillary enjoying yet another wonderful honor and looking typically adorable doing so.
Here is a video of Hillary Clinton with UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown today in Copenhagen. This was just after their bilateral.
Also in Copenhagen with the U.S. Delegation are Hillary’s old friend (and mine) Congressman Charlie Rangel, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer.
Well, no I have no idea WHY they are there, but there they are!

@U.S. Senate: Time to ratify LOST!
"... ratify the Law of the Sea Convention, which has provided the international framework for exploring these new opportunities in the Arctic. We abide by the international law that undergirds the convention, but we think the United States should be a member, because the convention sets down the rules of the road that protect freedom of navigation, provide maritime security, serve the interests of every nation that relies on sea lanes for commerce and trade, and also sets the framework for exploration for the natural resources that may be present in the Arctic." -HRC, 06-03-12, Tromso Norway
