Hillary at Harry Reid’s Clean Energy Summit: Climate Change ‘The Most Consequential, Urgent Challenge We Face’

By: Laura Barron-Lopez (The Hill)

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday said action on climate change and renewable energy will send a signal that the “U.S. can still do big things”.

The likely 2016 Democratic front-runner, drove a hard line on the need to pursue clean energy sources to help mitigate climate change and spur economic growth, asserting that the U.S. can become the “clean energy superpower our world needs.”

“[Climate change] is the most consequential, urgent, sweeping collection of challenges we face as a nation and world,” Clinton said at the National Clean Energy Summit 7.0 in Nevada on Thursday. “The data is unforgiving no matter what the deniers try to assert.”

Just a day after an agitated interloper at a closed and ticketed event in Las Vegas lobbed a shoe at Hillary Clinton came the news that she will make a return appearance at the same venue come September.

The National Clean Energy Summit 7.0 will convene at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas in September.  Hillary will be delivering the keynote speech on September 4.  This is the same venue where, last week, a clearly disturbed Alison Michelle Ernst, 36, broke past security of every level, extracted a shoe from a purse, and threw it at reasonably close range at Hillary Clinton who had just taken the stage to speak.

All of us who love Hillary hope and pray that greatly improved security will prevail at this important summit.  We know she is intrepid and can field wild pitches, but we do not need to see her proving it over and over again.

Hillary Rodham Clinton Will Cap a Day of Discussion and Exchange Focusing on Growing our Clean Energy Economy through Partnership and Collaboration

Las Vegas, NV —Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver the keynote address at the seventh annual National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas on Thursday September 4, 2014 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.  The nation’s foremost clean energy conversation, “National Clean Energy Summit 7.0: Partnership & Progress” will highlight how the private sector, through public-private partnerships and collaboration, is deploying clean energy, investing in innovation, modernizing our nation’s electric grid, and reducing climate pollution.

The annual conference is co-sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Center for American Progress, the Clean Energy Project, MGM Resorts International and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. “Secretary Clinton is the perfect choice to keynote this year’s summit. In addition to Secretary Clinton, a diverse set of speakers and panelists will participate in “National Clean Energy Summit 7.0: Partnership & Progress” including policymakers and industry leaders. More information about panels and speakers will follow.
