They met up on the tarmac in Scranton, two long-time buddies who used to have breakfast almost every Tuesday morning at Joe’s residence when Hillary was Secretary of State.

And then they were off to the rally.  In her speech, Hillary, wearing blue, hearkened back to her blue-collar roots in Scranton.  She told the audience that her grandfather’s job at a lace factory provided profit-sharing and health care at the beginning of the 20th century.

Joe gave shout outs to Bob Casey. He reminisced about his appearance in Scranton eight years ago with Hillary and Bill Clinton.

Joe spoke powerfully about what it will mean when Hillary becomes president.  He said she has always been there and that is her life story.  He called Trump’s cynicism unbounded.  He said no candidate has ever known less about national security than Donald Trump and that he doesn’t seem to want to learn it.  Speaking about Trump got Joe’s Irish up. It was awesome.  If you listen to nothing else here, listen to the last half of Joe’s speech.  It is scathing, and it is true.

Joined by Clinton In Scranton, Biden Calls Out Trump For Already Making America Less Safe

Joined by Hillary Clinton in Scranton on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden called out Donald Trump for already making America less safe.  Biden pointed to Trump’s dismissal of our European allies, his comments on Ukraine, his praise for Saddam Hussein, his support of torture, his slander of the Muslim parents of a Gold Star family, and his dangerously irresponsible lies about President Obama and ISIL to emphasize the security dangers of a Trump presidency.

Biden’s remarks on Trump’s dangerous national security proposals are transcribed below:

JOE BIDEN:

“Look at the people who have come out, scores and scores of the most prominent Republican thinkers in the national security field.  They have come out in both political parties and party.  He has no idea what he’s talking about.  Even confronted with the facts, he doesn’t want to learn them.  Few times he tries to deal with the facts, he reveals a profound misunderstanding of what to say.  Just listen for a second.  Listen to him.  He belittles our closest allies in this hemisphere and in Europe.  Nations that stand with us, are part of our security network, that are with us when we address every international challenge, those who fought and bled alongside us for decades, he wants to toss those relationships aside, like the ones that – like his failed business ventures or something.  In the meantime, he talks cavalierly about encouraging other nations, as Hillary pointed out, to develop nuclear weapons, as if nuclear war is some trivial affair.  Does he not understand we wrote Japan’s constitution to say they could not be a nuclear power?  Where was he when – in school? Someone who lacks this judgment cannot be trusted.  There’s a guy that follows me right back here, has the nuclear codes.  So God forbid anything happened to the President and I had to make a decision.  The codes are with me all – he is not qualified to know the code. He can’t be trusted.

I was proud.  My son Beau served for a year in Iraq, came back a highly decorated soldier.  I must tell you. I must tell you had Donald Trump been president, I would have thrown my body in front of him – no, I really mean it – to keep him from going if the judgment was based on Trump’s decision.

Every president since Harry Truman has looked toward Europe whole, free, and at peace.  One of the most consequential people right now who is trying to undo that is a man that Donald Trump says he admires.  Now, I’m not big on the character assassination stuff.  I really mean that.  If you look at everything, any campaign I’ve ever run, I’m just trying to – like that old program of Walter Brennan, ‘Just the facts, ma’am, nothing but the facts.’ Oh, that was Joe Friday, actually. But he says he admires Vladimir Putin. No, no, no, no, no.  It’s more than – it’s more than the ‘Ew’ about it.  Here’s the deal.  What is Putin’s objective, as Hillary knows as well as anyone, dealing with Putin as I have and the President has and John Kerry, Putin is determined to crack NATO and crack the European Alliance.  That is his overarching, overwhelming interest.

I’m heading from here, getting on a plane and flying to Kosovo, then to Serbia, and then I am going to the Baltic States.  You know one of the reasons I am going is to make sure – to reassure those who are members of NATO and the Baltic States we mean what we say, we mean what we say, the sacred alliance of 60 years because they’re worried.

Listen to his comments about Ukraine.  He assures us Russia will not move on Ukraine.  But if he could not understand it, they’ve already moved on Ukraine and occupy Crimea.  This guy’s shame has no limits.  He’s even gone so far as to ask Putin and Russia to conduct cyberattacks against the United States of America. No, no.  Even if he is joking,  which he’s not, even if he’s joking, what an outrageous thing to say.

Look, folks.  These are not isolated examples.  He’s even showered praise on Saddam Hussein, one of the vilest dictators of the 20th century, a man who repeatedly backed terror attacks against Israel because he was supposedly – the reason he admires him – he was a killer of terrorists.  That’s why he likes Saddam.  He would have loved Stalin.  He would have loved Stalin.

Look.  This says a lot about his approach.  It explains why he’s so often embraced tactics of terrorist enemies themselves – religious intolerance, casting entire communities culpable for the acts of a few in the community.  Torture, when he knows it’s illegal, and says he would still order it even though the military commanders said they would not obey his orders.  When can you think of, ever, in history where military commanders have said, before a man or woman is elected, that they would not follow his orders?  Threatening to kill innocent family members of suspects.  Indiscriminate bombing, what he calls for.  That’s how anyone hoping to lead this great democracy in the world should behave?

Look.  He likes autocrats.  He wills the politics of fear and intolerance, calling for a ban on Muslims in the United States, slandering proud Muslim parents of a Gold Star family who paid the ultimate sacrifice, threatening to send American citizens to Guantanamo – oh, I tell you, this guy’s okay. Look. Trump’s ideas are not only profoundly wrong, they’re very dangerous and they’re very un-American.  They reveal a profound ignorance of our constitution. It’s a recipe for playing into the hands – and I will end this because you’ve been standing so long – it’s a recipe for playing into the hands of terrorists and their propaganda.

Last year ISIL’s top leader, who we’ve been tracking since we got bin Laden, Hillary, me, John, everyone else, the President – his name is al-Baghdadi.  And he revealed the goal of ISIL.  He just said it straight out.  You can go on a website.  He said, their goal is to ‘compel the crusaders to actively destroy the grey zones themselves,’ meaning anywhere where Christians and Muslims live, he calls a grey zone.  He said their objective is to actively destroy that grey zone.  Muslims in the West, he says, will have to quickly find themselves between two choices:  either apostatize, or immigrate to the Islamic State, and thereby escape prosecution.  How does he make the case?  By pointing out that no Muslim is welcome in the West.  ISIL wants to manufacture a clash of civilizations between us versus them.  Trump is trying to give them exactly what they want.

Last week he stood in front of a crowd in Florida and said President Obama founded a terrorist organization, ISIL. Now, look.  Look.  This I really should end with.  That’s an outrageous statement.  But let me tell you why it’s a dangerous statement.  As he might say, the bad guys are listening.  Yesterday the head of Hezbollah, a terrorist organization, Iran’s top terrorist surrogate and a direct threat to our ally Israel, repeated Trump’s claim in the entire Muslim world and around the world that President Obama founded ISIL.  You say, well, what difference does that make?

Here’s exactly what the leader of Hezbollah said, referring to Trump’s accusation.  He said this.  ‘This is not’ – this is a spokesman for ISIL – I mean, excuse me, for Hezbollah –‘This is not a simple speech,’ referring to Trump.  I’m quoting him.  ‘This is an American presidential candidate.  This was spoken on behalf of the American Republican Party.  And he’ – meaning Trump – ‘has the data and documents to back it up.’

If my son were still in Iraq, and I say to all those who are there, the threat to their life has gone up a couple clicks.  It’s gone up a couple clicks.  You saw what’s happening in Turkey, where some in Turkey are accusing us of being part of the coup attempt.  Ladies and gentlemen, does he have any idea of the adverse consequences these outlandish comments have on our allies, or friends, and the physical safety of our troops?  Trump is already making our country less safe.”

Biden’s full remarks, as transcribed, are below:

JOE BIDEN:

“Hello, folks.  It is good to be home.  Folks, let me tell you what Scranton does deserve.”

AUDIENCE MEMBER:  “Love you, Joe!”

JOE BIDEN: “Well, thank you. Scranton deserves what it’s always deserved because it is made up of so many people with grit and courage – I mean this sincerely, from the bottom of my heart – with grit, courage, determination, who never, never, ever give up.  They deserve someone who not only understands them; they deserve someone who is with them.  And they deserve someone who’s made of the same stuff.  That’s Hillary Clinton.  That’s who she is.

It’s good to be home with so many friends.  As I look around, I – matter of fact, one of the people in the reception line said, ‘My aunt owns your house.’ Tell her I’m coming, I’m coming home. I was there when I was running, and up in the bedroom written on the wall still is, ‘Joe Biden slept here.’ And then it said, ‘Lived here.’  I’m glad they added the ‘Lived here’ part.

I’m often asked why we moved from Green Ridge to Claymont, Delaware and then Wilmington.  Claymont is a suburb of Wilmington, Delaware.  And it’s because of Bob Casey. No, look, no, the Caseys lived five blocks from us, just around the corner from St. Clare’s.  And I am midway between Bobby’s dad and Bobby.  And I knew only one of us were going to make it out of Green Ridge, and knew it wasn’t going to be me. So I had to move.  There was too much Casey talent in the neighborhood.  Bobby, you’re a great friend and a great, great United States Senator.  Thank you.

As they say in southern Delaware, they talk at you like this:  Matt Cartwright, that boy, he married up.  He married right up to the […] I tell you, I don’t know, always seeking influence.  I – but you got it, man.  And, Matt, you’re doing a wonderful job as well and have become a very dear friend as well.  Thank you.

I’ve been home since this time, but I stood here eight years ago kicking off our campaign with Hillary and Bill Clinton at my side, having my back.  It was just me up here.  They came to show their support.  And I want to make it clear that as Scranton has always had my back, we, in fact, all of us, are going to have your back, Hillary. Scranton has been so – some of the folks in our administration were there on election night when the results were coming in.  I give you my word as a Biden, I asked one and only one question:  What did we do in the Northeast? And we won by a larger margin than we had any time before, and the rest didn’t matter.  I took full credit for it.  Nothing to do with it.

You know, if you listen to Barack, you’d think I was a kid who just climbed out of a coal mine with a lunch box, from Scranton.  I’m the kid from Scranton.  Well, I am from Scranton and I was a kid at one time.  But so often, quite frankly, my people in Delaware resent it.  I’ve represented them for 36 years as a U.S. Senator and 44 years in high public office, and I swear to God, Hillary, there’s a parade that started on the Fourth of July about just as I was getting started in ’72, and it was called the Hockessin parade.  It’s right on the Pennsylvanian border.  And from the time my boys were then three and four years old – four and five years old at the – actually three and four years old, they were in the parade with me.  And so when my Beau became – and he was the most popular politician in Delaware – I would tag along with him – no, for real – in the parade.

So one of the things I’m trying to do, Hillary, after the people of Delaware being so generous to me all these years, and to Beau as attorney general, I am trying to go back and do as many things in the last year at home in Delaware to show my affection and my appreciation.  And so I was in the Fourth of July parade in Hockessin recently, surprising the press and everyone because I was there.  And there were thousands of people there, many of the same people that waited five hours in line to pay respects at my son’s viewing.  And I was there to thank them for the overwhelming support they gave me for all those years.  And as I continued along the parade route, two guys came running up to me – big guys, both guys I had played ball with – bigger than me.  Secret Service was about to have a heart attack.  And they said, Joe, what in the hell’s all this stuff about Scranton?  You’re from Claymont, god darn it.  You’re from Claymont.  And you’re from Delaware still, aren’t you, Joe?  So y’all have to write a note, tell them I love Scranton, it’s my home.

But you know what, home is where your character is stamped.  Where it’s stamped into your soul.  Where your values are set.  Where your view of the world and your place in that world begin.  For me, that was 2446 North Washington Avenue, around my grandfather Finnegan’s table – and it’s where I learned that money doesn’t determine your net worth.  That no one – that no one – I mean this sincerely.  This is not hyperbole.  This is deadly earnest.  I learned that no one is more worthy than you, and everyone is your equal.  I learned from my mother, Catherine Eugene Finnegan-Biden that – and she said this so many times.  She’d look me in the eye and say, Joey, look at me.  Remember, you’re defined by your courage, and you’re redeemed by your loyalty. She’d go on to say – because everybody’s had tough times – she said, as long as you’re alive, you have an obligation to strive.  And you’re not dead until you’ve seen the face of God.

What I learned here from my father is that I could be anything I wanted to be.  That anything could be accomplished.  This is not a joke.  This is real.  That the measure of your character is not whether you’ll get knocked down and you’ll fall, because you will.  The measure is how quickly you get up. I learned – I learned about resilience from my father.  Who, like many of you, and many of your parents, made what I call the longest walk.  The longest walk any man or woman can make is a short flight of stairs to their child’s bedroom to say, honey, I’m sorry we can’t live here anymore.  We lost the house.  Or Daddy or Mommy doesn’t have a job.  I remember my Dad making that walk.  Moving us to my grandfather’s home.  I remember, but what I remember most was him saying, but I promise you, everything, everything is going to be – we can’t go back to St. Paul’s – you can’t play in Green Ridge Little League anymore.  But I promise you, everything is going to be okay.

And he meant it.  He knew it.  Because there used to be a basic bargain back then.  There used to be a bargain, if you worked like hell for the outfit you work with and they did well, you got to participate.  That was the bargain.  And what Hillary is all about is making sure that every one of you – every one of you can look your child and your grandchild in the eye, and say, honey, I mean this sincerely, everything is going to be okay.  Think how many people you know who don’t feel like they can say that right now.  My father, when he said it, on the balls of his heels, he meant it.  Because he thought that there was just a clear shot if you worked hard.

Everything I learned at my father and grandfather’s table was reinforced by my neighbors and my friends all around this town.  Pride, independence, resiliency.  When I moved away from Scranton, I was going into 4th grade.  But I never left.  I spent summers, holidays, college weekends, weddings, funerals, first communions, bat mitzvahs – and by the way, for me it was Nay Aug Park, it wasn’t the Lake.  I always remember – I always remember – but I’ve been taught what you all believe up here.  Everyone’s entitled to be treated with dignity and respect, no matter who they are.

That America – that America – And Hillary gets this better than anybody I know.  That America can be defined in one single word: possibilities. That’s the thing about America – that’s the thing about Scranton.  That’s the thing about who we are.  Anything is possible.  That’s the America I know.  And ladies and gentlemen, that’s the America Hillary Clinton knows.  You know the people I trust most?  In public life – I’ve been doing this a long time – I trust the people who – the feeling starts in their gut, moves to their heart, and then is articulated by a great mind.  Hillary understands the hopes and aspirations of the people in Claymont and Scranton and every Scranton and Claymont in the United States of America.

I’ve known her for over 30 years.  I knew her before she was first lady.  When she became first lady.  When we served together in the Senate.  During her years as Secretary of State, once a week, we’d have breakfast in my home.  I became the Obama whisperer. She’d look at me and say, what did he mean by that?  He loves her.  Everybody knows.  This has never been an issue with Hillary.  Unlike, it’s a gigantic issue with her opponent.  But all kidding aside, everybody – by the way, my family is right there.  The Finnegans.  How are you?  I didn’t even see you.  Secret Service, you see that beautiful young girl there?  Make sure she gets back when I leave the stage, okay?  Because we’re not leaving until I get a hug.

Anyway, sorry guys.  It’s kind of a family thing. But look, think about it.  Everybody has known from day one how smart, how bright Hillary is.  Everybody knows how tough she is. But what I don’t think everybody knows enough about – it may be the difference between the Irish Catholic and the Methodist piece here – we wear everything on our sleeve.  I don’t think they fully understand how passionate she is about what she does. I want you to listen just for a minute.  I don’t even want you to clap.  I want you – because I want to make sure you understand what I know about her.

You know, she understands that that college loan to get a bright young girl or boy to school is about a lot more than whether or not they’re going to get a chance.  It’s about the pride and the dignity of the parent who looks at that child.  I mean this sincerely.  Please don’t – just listen to this.  I remember, I was – went down to my Dad’s place of work to pick up a car.  And he was wandering back and forth in the parking lot.  The secretary said, ‘He’s out there.’  And I walked out.  And he said, Joey, I’m so sorry.  I’m so damn sorry.  This is before cell phones.  I thought maybe something happened.

He said, ‘I went to the bank today, honey; they won’t lend me the money to get you to school.  I’m so ashamed.’  A damaging thing to a parent is to look at a talented child, or a sick child, or a child in need, and not be able to do anything.  She’s understood that for years.  She’s understood for years that millions of people here in Scranton and Claymont and all across America went to bed staring at a ceiling thinking, my God, what happens if she develops breast cancer?  Or he gets lung cancer?  What happens?  We lose everything.  What do we do then?

A lot of you remember those days.  My family remembers those days.  She gets it.  She understands what it will mean – and I really mean this – it’s more than about her.  She understands what it means for these beautiful young girls – and I’m being serious now – these three beautiful little girls I’m looking at now, what it will mean to them when it’s President Hillary Rodham Clinton. It will change their lives.  It will change their lives.  It will prove that my daughter and my granddaughter can do anything my son and grandsons can do.  That’s what it will mean.  It’s consequential.

So let me say this as clearly as I can.  If you live in a neighborhood like I grew up in, where my wife Jill grew up in, Willow Grove, or down in Claymont, if you worry about your job, getting decent pay, if you worry about your children’s education, if you’re taking care of an elderly parent after losing the other one, then there’s only one person in this election who will possibly help you.  And that is Hillary Clinton.  Folks, she’s always been there.  It’s not a joke.  You know, you see – use phrases like that – but she has always been there.  That’s her life story.  And let’s state the obvious: that is not Donald Trump’s life story.  Senator Ted Kaufman, who you know very well, Hillary, served with you.  He used to be my administrative assistant for years and years, graduate of the Wharton School, an engineer by degree at Duke.  He said he had a professor at the Wharton School – the Wharton School, by the way, isn’t – doesn’t have a Trump sign up.  Anyway, that said, the difference between being a success and the genuine success – excuse me – a minimum success and a real success is someone who had nothing and makes a million dollars is a real success.  Someone who inherits a million and makes 20 million –”

AUDIENCE MEMBER:  “A bum.”

JOE BIDEN:  “No, they’re not a bum, but they’re a mere success. Now, some are bums but not all.

Look, let me tell you the part that bothers me and, as Hillary will point out and knows, that no one ever doubts I mean what I say. The problem is that I sometimes say all that I mean.  But let me tell you what really bothers me most.  And maybe this only works in – where I grew up.  I don’t know.  But what bothers me most about Donald Trump is his cynicism is unbounded.  No.  I really mean this.  Think of this for a minute because you’re all raised in this area.  You’re different ethnicities, different religions, different backgrounds.  But there’s one thing I’ve noticed all the years I’ve spent.  And I’ve always, always come home.  And that is that the way you were raised, if you ever showed a lack of empathy for someone in trouble, if you ever summed up a thought that the praise he’s most proud of, ‘You’re fired’ – think about the phrase, ‘You’re fired.’”

AUDIENCE MEMBER:  “You’re fired.”

JOE BIDEN: “Think – no.  All kidding aside.  I really mean this.  Maybe it’s just me.  But think about what your mother or father or grandmother or grandfather would have said to you.  Think about everything you learned as a child.  I really mean this.  No matter where you were raised, how can there be pleasure in division and ‘You’re fired’?

And he’s trying to tell us he cares about the middle class.  Give me a break.  And, to repeat myself, it’s such a bunch of malarkey, it makes no sense, none, none, none, none.  This guy doesn’t care about the middle class.  And I don’t even blame him in a sense because he doesn’t understand it.  He doesn’t have a clue.  No, no.  He really – I mean, he really doesn’t.  He doesn’t have a clue.

And, by the way, there’s something else he has no clue about that has nothing to do with being a Democrat or Republican.  I have worked – I’ve worked with eight presidents of the United States.  I have served with hundreds of senators.  Only 13 senators in history, I’m embarrassed to say, have served as long as I have. Dozens of secretaries of state and secretaries of defense of both parties.  And I can say without hesitation, my word as a Biden, no major party nominee in the history of the United States of America has – no, don’t cheer; quiet, just listen – has known less or been less prepared to deal with our national security than Donald Trump.  And what absolutely amazes me, what absolutely amazes me, that he doesn’t seem to want to learn it. No.  I really mean it.  He doesn’t seem to want to learn it.  He doesn’t seem to think it matters.  This man is totally, thoroughly unqualified to be president of the United States of America.  He not only lacks the temperament – people say he lacks the temperament.  I would feel better if that’s all he lacked. On every issue that matters most to our security, Donald Trump has no clue what it takes to lead this great country.

Now, look, if I had said this eight to 10 months ago, you would say, well, I am being partisan.  Well, I am partisan.  I make no apologies for that.  But I am not mean about it.  And, as Hillary will tell you, I don’t know any Democrat that has a more positive relationship with Republicans than I do in the United States Senate.  But, having said that, look at the people who have come out, scores and scores of the most prominent Republican thinkers in the national security field.

Trump is already making our country less safe.  And I’m testing your stamina.

So let me go to the end here and say – Hillary has forgotten more about American foreign policy that Trump and his entire – I’m not exaggerating – his entire team will ever understand. Ladies and gentlemen, Hillary’s been there.  She has been tested.  I’ve been in the room with her as we jointly, with the President’s leadership, sent some of these killers to the gates of hell.  At our weekly breakfast on the international stage, she’s strong.  She’s respected.  She’s admired.  There’s nothing – there’s nothing, nothing – that she doesn’t understand about America’s place in the world.

And ladies and gentlemen, because she knows one thing that Donald Trump doesn’t know:  It’s never, never, never, ever been a good bet to bet against the United States of America!  Give it a fair shot. Give it a fair chance.  Americans have never, never, never, ever let their country down, never – and ladies and gentlemen in Scranton and in America, we never bow.  We never bend.  We never kneel.  We never yield.  We own the finish line.  That’s who we are.  We are America!  And she gets it.  We’re second to none, and Hillary Clinton is going to write the next chapter in American history.”

Statement from Robby Mook on Trump Campaign Chair Pro-Kremlin Ties

After more reports of Donald Trump’s campaign chair’s ties to pro-Kremlin elements in Ukraine, Hillary for America Campaign Manager Robby Mook released the following statement:

“On the eve of what the Trump campaign has billed as a major foreign policy speech, we have learned of more troubling connections between Donald Trump’s team and pro-Kremlin elements in Ukraine.  Given the pro-Putin policy stances adopted by Donald Trump and the recent Russian government hacking and disclosure of Democratic Party records, Donald Trump has a responsibility to disclose campaign chair Paul Manafort’s and all other campaign employees’ and advisers’ ties to Russian or pro-Kremlin entities, including whether any of Trump’s employees or advisers are currently representing and or being paid by them.”

Why would anyone cry “voter fraud” well before he fact? It makes no sense.

Trump Solicits Election Observers for ‘Rigged Election’

Ali Vitali

Donald Trump is now recruiting “Trump Election Observers” to combat what he has called a “rigged” election.

A link on his page — that directs participants to donate — rewards registrants with an email that promises to “do everything we are legally allowed to do to stop crooked Hillary from rigging this election.”

The call to action comes less than 24 hours after Trump said Democratic rival Hillary Clinton couldn’t win in Pennsylvania unless she cheats and just days after he began inserting voter identification riffs heavily into his stump speech.

“She can’t beat what’s happening here,” the Republican presidential nominee told the crowd in Altoona on Friday night. “The only way they can beat it, in my opinion, and I mean this 100 percent, if in certain sections of the state they cheat, OK?”

We need to think strategically about this.  Voter fraud in the United States has been minimal to naught.  See this >>>>

So why would a candidate in a state where he is polling low make such an accusation and recruit an army of “observers?”

My guess is that something untoward is in the works. It would indeed be sad, wrong, criminal, and fraud if voters were to arrive at the Trump-monitored polls to discover that they had already voted.

I remember this having happened to Iowa caucusers in 2008.  They arrived to be rejected and were told they were already signed in with signatures that were not theirs.  Some of them called in to CNN while this was happening. That is water under the bridge now.  Many non-Iowans have probably forgotten and only the disenfranchised remember with the fury of those who were turned away unjustly.

Trump’s Delphic precognition of  loss in a state where he is tanking 87 days out sets up a disturbing scenario wherein recruited “pollwatchers” in fact interfere with the election.

The sad truth at the bottom of this slimy barrel is that voter ID might end up being all that prevents a Trump theft of Democratic and democratic votes.

My poll ladies know me very well.  If someone were to attempt to impersonate me at my polling place,  that person would be snagged in an NJ minute.  But if this is a plan in the hatching in PA or anywhere else, we still have 86 days to help prevent a theft.

If you are out there registering voters, maybe it is not a bad idea to ensure that they carry proper ID. Check valid ID requirements in your state and advise registrants to comply. If there are seniors in your district who need a lift to the polls and lack ID, try to assist them in getting accepted ID before the crisis occurs.  We have a few months in which to accomplish this.

I smell a rat. I am not psychic. But if you follow a certain line of reasoning behind why Trump would have made such a statement in such a state, you cannot help but expect monkey business to ensue.

Get ready! This is like no election we have ever seen before, and we need to predict what the noxious moves will be and provide the antidotes before election day.

This is the ONLY ticket that will work for all of us and not just the privileged.

Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine, and their spouses released their 2015 tax returns today.  This is a handy page to bookmark.  It shows Hillary and Bill Clinton’s tax info since 2001 and Tim Kaine’s since 2006.  The page also has links to Hillary’s health records.  So, no she is not brain-damaged, developing dementia, or in any other way suffering from compromised health.

Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine release tax returns while Donald Trump defies decades-old tradition of disclosure

Today, Hillary Clinton released her 2015 personal tax return and Senator Tim Kaine and his wife, Anne Holton, released 10 years of their returns.

“Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine continue to set the standard for financial transparency as she releases her 2015 personal tax return and builds on the Clintons’ tradition of making their returns public since 1977 and Kaine releases 10 years of his returns,” said Hillary for America communications director Jennifer Palmieri. “In stark contrast, Donald Trump is hiding behind fake excuses and backtracking on his previous promises to release his tax returns. He has failed to provide the public with the most basic financial information disclosed by every major candidate in the last 40 years. What is he trying to hide?”

After touring the Futuramic Tool and Engineering facility in Warren, MI, Hillary delivered remarks addressing her plans for the economy in contrast to the very hazy, foreshortened bullets (I hesitate to call them plans) offered by Donald Trump. Bullets are great on a memo or a meeting agenda.  The American people want to hear how candidates plan to boost the economy.  Hillary presented a detailed, multifaceted, intersectional set of initiatives that, working in concert, will benefit all Americans and American families, not just those at the top.

Just a note on Trump’s latest lies and other words. He told a crowd this morning that Hillary talks for 10 minutes and then goes home and sleeps.  Everyone here knows that is not true, and we actually often wonder if she ever gets a chance to sleep. His speech consisted largely (he thinks bigly is a word) of reading off a series of numbers from notes in his hand.  They were just numbers out of context. They meant nothing, and it was mystifying.  Hillary, in interview situations, for example, and town halls, can rattle off numbers from her head, without knowing a particular question is coming, and relates the numbers to concrete realities.  Trump held up a graph that he stared at more than he showed it to the audience.  It was a shabby imitation of Ross Perot who at least really knew the graphs and what they showed.  Perhaps Perot even made those graphs himself.  Trump looked at the graph and read the numbers as if they were alien to him and he had never seen them before.  In one instance he said, “I agree with this one.”  What an unprepared puppet of the billionaire boys club that he calls his economic advisory team!

Here is Hillary’s plan.

Stronger Together: Hillary Clinton’s Plan for An Economy That Works for Everyone, Not Just Those at the Top

Earlier today, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech in Warren, Michigan, posing four questions that should make voters’ choice in this election crystal clear. First, which candidate will actually stand up to those at the top and restore balance and fairness to our economy? Second, who has a better plan to create good-paying jobs? Third, who will really go to bat for working families? And, fourth, who can break through the dysfunction in Washington deliver real results for the American people?

Donald Trump fails each of these tests. Instead of restoring balance and fairness to our economy, he wants to provide trillions in tax breaks to corporations and the super-wealthy, exploding our deficit while leaving working families to hold the bag. Instead of creating good-paying jobs, his economic proposals would produce crisis and recession, resulting in 3.4 million lost jobs according to independent analysts who also projects that the economy would create 10.4 million jobs under Hillary Clinton’s plans. Instead of standing up for working families, Trump has made a career out of stiffing small businesses and outsourcing jobs. Instead of breaking through Washington gridlock, Trumps’ temper tantrums and name-calling would just make things worse.

Unlike Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton has the agenda, experience, and know-how to restore fairness to our economy, create good-paying jobs, stand up for working families, and break-through Washington’s dysfunction to deliver real results for the American people. She understands that we are stronger together when we grow together—when we all contribute to our prosperity and we all share in the rewards. While we have worked our way back from the Great Recession, too many Americans are still left out and left behind. Instead of growing together, we’re in danger of growing apart – with too few good-paying jobs, too much inequality, and a lack of basic economic security and fairness for working families.

We can meet these challenges. We can spur more economic growth, which will create more good-paying jobs and raise wages. And we can have more economic fairness, so the rewards are shared with everyone. Hillary Clinton is running for President to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top. As she laid out in her speech last month in Raleigh, North Carolina, she is setting five big goals to get there:

  1. Break Through Washington Gridlock to Make the Boldest Investment in Good-Paying Jobs Since World War II
  2. Make Debt Free College Available to All Americans
  3. Rewrite the Rules to Ensure That Workers Share in the Profits They Help Create
  4. Ensure That Those at the Top Pay Their Fair Share
  5. Put Families First by Matching Our Policies to How Families Live, Learn, and Work in the 21st Century Economy

A summary of Hillary’s economic agenda is below. You can read about all of these proposals in greater detail at https://www.hillaryclinton.com/issues/.

I. BREAK THROUGH WASHINGTON GRIDLOCK TO MAKE THE BOLDEST INVESTMENT IN GOOD-PAYING JOBS SINCE WORLD WAR II

Our country has a strong bipartisan tradition of investing in our future—from Eisenhower’s Interstate highway system, which unlocked the potential of the American economy and drove the rise of the middle class, to the Apollo program, which put a man on the moon and fueled giant leaps forward in technology and innovation. Hillary Clinton will break through the gridlock in Washington to make these investments, which have been a hallmark of American prosperity, once again possible.

From her first day in office to her last, Hillary will make it a central priority to make sure that every American can find a good-paying job, with rising incomes across the board. That’s why she will make the largest investment in good-paying jobs since World War II. These investments will not just create good jobs today, they will unlock the potential of our businesses to create good-paying jobs in the future. And she is setting a goal of a full employment, full-potential economy, where we break down barriers and create good-paying jobs in every community, for people across the country willing to work hard. Hillary will:

  • Launch our country’s boldest investments in infrastructure since we built the Interstate highway system
  • Make audacious advancement in research and technology, creating the industries and jobs of the future
  • Establish the U.S. as the clean energy superpower of the world—with half a billion solar panels installed by the end of her first term and enough clean renewable energy to power every home in American within ten years of her taking office
  • Cut red tape, make small business tax filing as easy as keeping a checkbook, and expand access to capital so small businesses can grow, hire and thrive
  • Ensure that the jobs of the future in caregiving and services are good-paying jobs, recognize their fundamental contributions to families and to America
  • Pursue smarter, fairer, tougher trade policies that put U.S. job creation first and that get tough on nations like China that seek to prosper at the expense of our workers – including opposing trade deals, like the Trans-Pacific Partnership, that do not meet a high bar of creating good-paying jobs and raising pay
  • Commit to a full employment, full-potential economy and break down barriers so that growth, jobs, and prosperity are shared in every community in America, no matter where you live and no matter your race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or disability
  • Appoint Fed governors who share the belief that maximum employment is an essential prong of the Federal Reserve’s dual mandate

II. MAKE DEBT FREE COLLEGE AVAILABLE TO ALL AMERICANS

An economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top, is based on the idea of equal opportunity and a belief that anyone can rise. That vision of our nation only works if we renew our commitment to education at every level. That’s why Hillary will fight for transformational investments that prepare the next generation for the jobs of the future—starting with debt-free college:

  • Eliminate tuition for working families and provide debt-free college to all Americans—because debt should never be a barrier to equal opportunity
  • Ease the crushing burden of student debt for 40 million Americans by allowing students to refinance at lower rates and making sure that none of them have to pay more than they can afford

III. REWRITE THE RULES TO ENSURE WORKERS SHARE IN THE PROFITS THEY HELP CREATE

Businesses thrive all over our country by seeing employees as assets to invest in, not costs to cut. They’re building companies, not stripping them, and creating good jobs, not eliminating them. But too many corporations take the opposite view. They seem to have forgotten that one of the biggest assets on their balance sheets is America itself. Hillary will make it easier for companies that take the “high road,” like sharing profits with their workers and investing in them over the long term. And she will make it harder for them to take the “low road,” by mistreating their workers and customers or walking out on America to avoid paying their fair share in taxes.

  • Reward companies that share profits with their employees, not just their executives
  • End the tyranny of “quarterly capitalism” and encourage companies to invest in America for the long-run
  • Reform our tax code to reward businesses that invest in jobs in the United States, and impose an exit tax on companies that move overseas to avoid paying their taxes
  • Strengthen our antitrust laws and enforcement so businesses get ahead by competing and benefitting their customers – not by unfairly concentrating markets
  • Eliminate write-offs and claw back special tax breaks when companies ship jobs and production overseas, and use the proceeds to invest in America
  • Pursue worker-friendly policies to make it harder for companies to race to the bottom in search of profits

IV. REWRITE THE RULES AND MAKE SURE THAT THOSE AT THE TOP PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE

Our tax code is rigged for those at the top, making it harder to invest in our future, whether it’s in infrastructure, education or healthcare. We need policies to address these discrepancies in our tax code and go after all the scams, loopholes, and special breaks exploited by corporations and the mega-rich, like the carried interest loophole that lets some hedge fund managers pay a lower rate than a teacher or a nurse. She believes that by making sure the most fortunate and corporations pay their fair share, we can afford to pay for the ambitious progressive investments she has put forward, in a fiscally responsible way, without adding to the debt.

As President, Hillary will make sure that corporations and the most fortunate play by the rules and pay their fair share – because they can afford it, and we’re all in this together. She will:

  • Reform our individual income tax code to make sure that no millionaire pays a lower tax rate than a middle-class family and impose a surcharge on the incomes of multi-millionaires
  • Close tax loopholes and special breaks that make it possible for the wealthy and corporations to avoid paying their fair share
  • Charge a risk fee on major Wall Street institutions
  • Close the “carried interest” loophole for Wall Street money managers – acting without Congress if it will not move forward on its own

V. PUT FAMILIES FIRST AND MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THE SECURITY AND OPPORTUNITY THEY NEED TO THRIVE IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY

When we forged the basic bargain of our economy, with guarantees like Social Security, minimum wage, overtime pay, child labor laws, and other protections we count on today, our economy was very different. Most families got by on one income, and workers could expect to hold a steady job with good benefits for an entire career. Despite massive shifts in how our economy works today, too many of our policies are outdated and basic protections have not kept up. We need policies that match how we actually live and work in this 21st century economy. That means updating the basic bargain and putting families first. Hillary will:

  • Provide universal, affordable healthcareincluding offering a public option choice in every state, letting people over 55 buy into Medicare, and investing in community health centers
  • Work to ensure no family pays more than 10 percent of their income on child care by making the Child Tax Credit more generous for working families, making preschool universal for every 4 year-old in America, and significantly increasing our investment in high-quality child care programs
  • Break down barriers to make affordable housing and homeownership possible for hard working families

Trump appears to encourage gun owners to take action if Clinton appoints anti-gun judges

The Washington Post
Sean Sullivan

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, speaking at a rally in Wilmington, N.C., on Tuesday, appeared to encourage gun owners to take action if Hillary Clinton is elected president and appoints judges who oppose gun rights.

The mogul said that Clinton “wants to abolish, to essentially abolish the Second Amendment,” a charge she has flatly denied. He said that if Clinton becomes president, she could appoint judges that would leave Americans nearly helpless on this front.

“By the way, and if she gets to pick — if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” Trump warned. “Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”

Hillary was animated and fierce speaking at a rally at The Coliseum in St. Petersburg, FL today.  She told the audience that Trump’s economic advisors, all billionaires including six guys named Steve, have written a speech for Trump to read extolling trickle-down economics and setting down plans to make themselves wealthier.

On the Campaign Trail in Florida, Hillary Clinton Responds to Donald Trump’s Economic Speech

Today while campaigning in Florida, Hillary Clinton responded to Donald Trump’s speech from earlier in the day laying out his economic plans. His plan will cause damage to the American economy and hurt working families, while propping up the wealthiest Americans, Wall Street and largest corporations.

Clinton’s remarks, as transcribed, are below:

“So today in Detroit, he’s got a dozen or so economic advisers he just named, hedge fund guys, billionaire guys, six guys named Steve, apparently. And so they wrote him a speech and he delivered it in Detroit. Now, they tried to make his old, tired ideas sound new. But, here’s what we all know, because we heard it again.

“His tax plans will give super big tax breaks to large corporations and the really wealthy, just like him and the guys who wrote the speech, right? He wants to roll back regulations on Wall Street. He wants to eliminate the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which has saved billions of dollars for Americans. He wants to basically just repackage trickle down economics.

“Now, you know that old saying, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me? Trickle down economics does not help our economy grow. It does not help the vast majority of Americans, but it does really well for people already at the top.

“Well we’re going to turn that upside down. We’re going to make the wealthy pay their fair share in taxes for a change. And I have said throughout this campaign, I am not going to raise taxes on the middle class, but with your help, we are going to raise it on the wealthy, because that’s where the money is. You know that old movie, ‘Follow the Money’ – well one tenth of one percent has gotten 90 percent of the income gains.

“So, here’s the other thing I want you to know, because I want you to tell your friends: don’t let a friend vote Trump. So here’s the deal. He can’t escape the math. Now you know, math can be kind of inconvenient if it doesn’t add up the way you want it to. And economists left, right, in the middle all say the same thing. That Trump’s policies would throw us into a recession, the last thing we need. He would undermine the growth that we’ve had since the Great Recession.

“One independent expert — actually, the economist who advised John McCain in 2008, so you know, not somebody that has any pre-disposition towards our side. But this economist did a study. He said under Trump’s economic plans, we would lose, in America, 3.5 million jobs. Now, he compared it with what I have proposed, and he said in comparison, my plans would create at least 10 million jobs in the first four years for the economy.

“So if we just take Florida and compare it, right here in Florida, Florida would gain 650,000 jobs under my plans, lose more than 200,000 jobs under Donald Trump’s – a difference of 850,000 Florida jobs. Now, I just think we’ve got to look at this in a very clear way.

“They are just playing the same old siren song. And why they haven’t learned we are not interested in economic plans that only help the top one percent, it’s time to help everybody else in America get ahead and stay ahead.

“So it’s clear, and a lot of journalists have written this, that Trump is scrambling to do damage control. That’s why he listed those dozen new economic advisors: three Wall Street money managers, an oil baron, a former chief economist from one of the banks at the heart of the financial crisis — but this is from a guy who has said that he knows more than the generals about ISIS. So he’s not only putting our national security at risk. Now he’s putting our economy at risk. So, I’ve got to tell you people, this is going to be a very important next three months.”

In St. Petersburg, Hillary Clinton Touts Plans to Help Small Businesses and Create Jobs

At 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Petersburg on Monday, Hillary Clinton spent the first stop of her Florida Jobs Tour laying out her vision of bolstering small businesses and building an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top. Clinton plans to cut red tape, make it easier for small businesses to have access to credit, and help aspiring entrepreneurs with their student debt, in order to help small businesses create more jobs. Pointing to Trump’s consistent practice of stiffing small businesses, Clinton said, “that’s what Trump has done time and time again.  It would be like you’d get a big order from one of his resorts or casinos.  That would be pretty exciting here […] And then they wouldn’t pay you.  Or maybe they’d say, we’re only going to pay you 50 cents or 30 cents on the dollar.  I just can’t imagine.  I know what it would mean to my family, but I can’t imagine what it would mean to any family […] It just doesn’t make sense.”

Clinton’s remarks, as transcribed, are below:

“Thank you so much, Mike and Leigh and everybody.  I am excited about being here, and I so appreciate what Mike and Leigh took their time to tell me about.  Because this company, which has grown pretty dramatically in the last four and a half years, is a great example of what it means to be a small business company that then grows and takes advantage of all the opportunities that are available.

And I was grateful when I asked both of them, ‘So what would you want me to do?  What worked?  What didn’t?’ that they gave me a terrific point of view.  And just to quickly recap, because I agree with everything they said, they got a lot of help from the SBA – twice now – but they agree with me that the SBA is just not doing enough.  It’s not a – its mandate is not big enough; it doesn’t include enough continuing help and outreach so that people with good ideas like they had know where to go, kind of a one-stop shop, if you will, to get all the information that they need.  And I’m going to do everything I can to expand that mandate and to provide a much better conduit, to use Mike’s term, of information coming to people starting their small businesses.

The second thing they said which was exciting is that when they first opened up their very first – what do they call those big silver things? Brew-house – their very first brew-house came from China.  And then they found a local company not far from here who could do exactly the same thing, so all of these other brew-houses are made right here, about four or five miles right down the street.  BrewFab, right?  BrewFab.  So that’s another thing I’m pushing, is for companies to look to see if there aren’t American suppliers who can actually provide what they need in order to have a great partnership.  And I’m thrilled that what you see here illustrates that.

The third thing they told me is they had a great experience with the State Department, which I was very happy to hear, because when I was Secretary of State I really stressed exports, and you can’t do exports unless you have an active group of people who are reaching out once again, trying to come up with support for businesses.

And my dad was a small businessman, a very, very small business that he started and ran, so I was particularly keen that we not just help the giant American corporations but we help the small businesses, the medium-sized businesses.  And Mike told me that he had a great experience on a State Department-sponsored visit to Costa Rica, right?  To Costa Rica?

And that’s exactly what I want to see more of too, because you can’t just expect to compete and win in the global economy by waiting for it to come to you, and you can’t do it on your own, so it’s really important to me that the government does more to help companies like 3 Daughters get out into the world so that their products can be given an equal chance to compete and win.  Because I know that if we do that, nobody can outcompete American workers and businesses.  We just have to be out there doing everything possible to make it reality.

And then the final thing that I picked up from talking to both of them is how committed they are to their employees, but how they could sure use some help finding out what are all of the benefits and opportunities that are available through the federal government – through the tax system, for example.  How can we do a better job making sure that small companies like this have the help they need to understand everything that they have to do and cut the costs and streamline it.  So, for example, they were telling me that if they could get a kind of package of help – because right now, employees spend a lot of time figuring out excise tax, which is pretty complicated, and I want to try to blow through all that, simplify it, flatten it, make it possible for companies like this to get the information.

And they came up with a really good suggestion: people who register LLCs, if they’re going to have employees, they should immediately get a package of information, like here’s how you can get help understanding what you have to do to register in different jurisdictions to pay taxes in different jurisdictions and the like.  As much as we can simplify and use technology to simplify, the cheaper then it will be for companies like this to be successful and to grow as quickly as this one has.

So I feel like I’ve learned a lot today.  I really appreciate your being so well prepared to give me these great ideas that I can then try to take and put to work on behalf of businesses like yours and businesses across the country.  Because it really is true that I feel a special bond with small businesses, and I have said that I want to be a small business president because of my dad’s experience, and this is one of the big differences between me and the Republican nominee.  My dad worked really hard.

He ran a small print plant so that in a much lower-ceilinged, darker room, he had long tables that he would roll fabric out on and then he would take a silkscreen – and he would do all this by hand – you put the silkscreen down, you put the paint in, you take a squeegee, you go from side to side and then you pick it up and you go down all the way to the end of the long table, then you’d go to the other table, so that while this table was drying then you’d come up and if there was a two-color pattern, you’d put another silkscreen on and you’d do it all over again.

So he worked really hard and made a good living for my mother, my brothers and me, and that’s why I just can’t imagine – he worked so hard – if he had delivered the finished goods to the people who had ordered them, that they would have said, ‘We’re not going to pay you.’  And that’s what Trump has done time and time again.  It would be like you’d get a big order from one of his resorts or casinos.  That would be pretty exciting here.  And people would work really hard.

And then they wouldn’t pay you.  Or maybe they’d say, we’re only going to pay you 50 cents or 30 cents on the dollar.  I just can’t imagine.  I know what it would mean to my family, but I can’t imagine what it would mean to any family.  And in fact, just recently there – most people who are in that position that I’ve met who have been stiffed by him, they were told, ‘Well, go sue us.’  Well, people can’t afford to sue somebody who hires a bunch of lawyers in order to fight back.  It just doesn’t make sense.

But there was a small mom-and-pop shop down in South Florida that did sue him because they had helped renovate one of his golf courses.  And they knew that if they didn’t get paid, it was over for them.  They couldn’t keep their doors open.  So they did sue him, and they got a judgment, and then they even got attorneys’ fees.  So maybe the tide is turning because I’ve met painters and plumbers and glass installers and marble installers and architects and piano companies that have been operating under a contract which then was never honored.

And the most fundamental thing in our economic system is you make a contract.  You make a deal with somebody.  You keep your end of the bargain.  They keep their end of the bargain.  That’s how we do business, and that’s how we’re going to continue to grow small businesses in America.  Because I think Mike told me that there are 52 employees, 18 full-time.  Right?

Small businesses create most of the jobs in America, two-thirds.  So we can’t grow the economy if we don’t really grow small businesses.  And I’m going to do everything I can in this campaign and then in the White House to be a great president for small business, and to consult people like Mike and Leigh who can give me firsthand, real information about what works and what doesn’t work so that we don’t get this big disconnect where you’re trying to do something, and it’s just not working.

And the final thing that make said, which I am going to be doing everything I can, is to get health care costs down.  We’ve got a lot of people who are insured now because of the Affordable Care Act, but the costs are too high.  We need to get prescription drug costs down and premiums and copays and all of the costs because other companies have told me the very same thing.  And so I’m going to be working hard on that as well.

So again, let me thank you for having us here.  I want to say hello to everybody, maybe get some pictures if you wanted to, and have a chance – if anybody has any other ideas about how we’re going to promote and grow small businesses.  And again, Leigh was telling me about the meaning of the flags here as well, and I bet in a few years you’re going to have flags hanging from every part of this ceiling as a real tribute to the people who have served our country.  And I greatly appreciate that as well.

Thank you all very much.”

Just a note to readers: I am getting emails about a few photos taken on this visit to a model group home in North Charleston, SC last February. The photos in question were never posted on this blog, never would have been, and will not be now.  The outrageous, false stories being perpetrated on right wing websites and other media have been refuted and debunked by Liam Quinn at The Daily Mail and Brian Stelter at CNN.

From The Briefing

Trump and Putin admire each other:

Putin on Trump: “He is a bright and talented person without any doubt…an outstanding and talented personality…the absolute leader of the presidential race.”

Trump on Putin: “I think Putin’s been a very strong leader for Russia, I think he has been a lot stronger than our leader, that I can tell you.”

Trump’s inner circle has deep Russian ties. For example:

  • Campaign manager Paul Manafort worked closely to help elect pro-Putin Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who supported and enabled Putin’s intervention.
  • Advisor Carter Page has deep ties to Russian energy conglomerate Gazprom (and traveled to Russia shortly before the GOP platform was made more Russia-friendly)
  • Advisor Michael Flynn appears regularly on Russian government TV and is an honored guest at Kremlin functions
  • Advisor Michael Caputo once held a contract with Soviet media to improve Putin’s image in the U.S.

Russian officials and media openly prefer a Trump presidency:

In an interview, Trump was indifferent to the fact that Putin has had opponents jailed and journalists killed, saying, “At least he’s a leader.”Russian government TV networks are aligned with and devote extensive positive coverage to Trump (a tactic Putin has used to prop up other politicians). In this week’s New Yorker, David Remnick reports that “in Moscow, officials around Putin [believe] that Trump’s election would be welcome and would bring about better, less stressful, relations with the United States.” He also quotes a Moscow activist and broadcaster, whose words I’d like you to read directly:

“Putin wants the United States to be taken up with its own problems, and forget about things like Ukraine and Crimea,” Sergei Parkhomenko, an activist and broadcaster for Echo of Moscow, told me. “It seems to him that, if the United States elects Trump, all of America will be taken up for at least a year trying to ‘digest’ him.

“But there is a second reason,” Parkhomenko continued. “Putin is convinced that absolutely everything in this world is done for money. He is a religious fanatic, and money is his god. With money, it is possible to solve any problem, buy any interlocutor. He bought the Olympic Games, he bought the World Cup. It will be easy to deal with Trump. He won’t need to use words in negotiations, only figures. When they don’t agree, it will only be necessary to find the right price.”
