“Camps are part of the fabric of our national life. They are often safe havens in the storms that blow across everyone’s life and seem particularly difficult for children and teenagers, places where people can get back to basics and remember, or learn for the first time, what’s really important. Our families today come in all sizes and shapes, but they all want the same thing: a good job, safety and security, the chance to build a better life for themselves and their kids. Camps are one of the essential building blocks for so many people.” -Hillary Clinton, during a speech to the American Camp Association, March 19, 2015
Camp Olmsted is located in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, and has been serving children from New York City’s neighborhoods for more than 110 years. Our program serves boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 14 and often provides their first outdoor camping experience. During our program campers enjoy swimming, hiking, sports, art, reading, and ropes challenge course activities. They also get to express themselves through performances and creative writing. These activities are designed to build their self-esteem and enhance their social skills. Our campers leave their time at Olmsted with new friends, new skills, and more confidence. Yes, twelve days can have an impact that lasts a lifetime!

Literary lion Maya Angelou may be gone, but her memory will live on through the day and beyond.
A memorial celebration to honor Angelou, the revered writer, poet, actress and civil rights activist who died this year, will kick off at the Riverside Church on Riverside Dr. near W. 120th St. on Friday at 11 a.m.
Former first lady, senator and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will join a group of renowned speakers — including author Toni Morrison and popular poet Nikki Giovanni — to pay tribute to the legendary Angelou, who died at her home on the North Carolina campus of Wake Forest University on May 28. She was 86.
Former President Bill Clinton and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be among the political luminaries speaking at a Thursday morning memorial service for late veteran strategist Bill Lynch.
David Dinkins, who credits Lynch with helping him become the city’s first African-American mayor and later made him a top deputy, will also deliver a eulogy at The Riverside Church, as will Rep. Charles Rangel, Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, and ex-New York Secretary of State Basil Paterson.
Lynch died last Friday of complications of kidney disease. He was 72.
Fondly nicknamed the “rumpled genius” for his political insight, Lynch provided advice on the White House bids of both Clintons, as well as those of Jackson, Edward Kennedy, Walter Mondale, and John Kerry.

@U.S. Senate: Time to ratify LOST!
"... ratify the Law of the Sea Convention, which has provided the international framework for exploring these new opportunities in the Arctic. We abide by the international law that undergirds the convention, but we think the United States should be a member, because the convention sets down the rules of the road that protect freedom of navigation, provide maritime security, serve the interests of every nation that relies on sea lanes for commerce and trade, and also sets the framework for exploration for the natural resources that may be present in the Arctic." -HRC, 06-03-12, Tromso Norway
"I deeply resent those who attack our country, the generosity of our people and the leadership of our president in trying to respond to historically disastrous conditions after the earthquake." - HRC 01-26-10
