While she was in Ireland and the UK for lectures, Hillary made a surprise stop in Wales where she revisited Swansea University and spent some time at a well-known wedding venue.
Last October, Swansea University in Wales honored Hillary Clinton with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree and named their law school The Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law. Now the same university has launched a scholarship program aimed at championing children’s human rights.

A Welsh university has collaborated with Hillary Clinton to launch a scholarship programme aimed at championing children’s human rights.
Swansea University is working with the former US Secretary of State and presidential hopeful and the Welsh Government to launch the Hillary Rodham Clinton PhD Research Scholarship Programme.
Mrs Clinton was awarded an honorary doctorate from the South Wales university in October last year and at the same time its college of law was renamed The Hillary Rodham Clinton School of law.
Hillary is traveling in the UK this weekend. Today she was doubly honored by Swansea University which conferred upon her an Honorary Doctorate of Law and forthwith renamed its law school The Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law.
Here is the stone with the plaque that was unveiled today naming the law school in her honor.
Best compliments, Mme. Secretary! So well-deserved!
Here is a nice article about Hillary and her Welsh roots.
Former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was told she is almost a third Welsh when she appeared on The One Show.
Mrs Clinton even tried to speak Welsh, with help from presenter Alex Jones .
And she also received an Honorary Doctorate at Swansea University , in recognition of her commitment to promoting the rights of families and children around the world.
But her Welsh roots have previously been well-documented.
She previously said she is proud of her Welsh roots and said the nation had a “special place” in her heart.
When Hillary Clinton visits Swansea University in Wales later this month, an honorary doctorate will not be the only honor she receives there. The university plans a ceremony unveiling a stone that will designate Swansea’s law school the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law.
Swansea University in Wales is renamingits law school after Hillary Clinton and will honor the two-time presidential candidate and former secretary of state with an honorary degree. Former US secretary of state and presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is to be presented with an honorary doctorate by Swansea University.
Clinton will be in the city on 14 October to receive the award, which the university says recognises her commitment to promoting the rights of families and children around the world, a cause shared by its Wales Observatory on the Human Rights of Children and Young People.
Our assiduous SOS sends greetings to every friend and ally on their national days. I only post the ones with some kind of special significance. So, in honor of our shared Welsh roots, here are Hillary’s greetings on St. David’s Day!
On the Occasion of St. David’s Day in Wales
Press Statement
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
February 29, 2012
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Wales as you celebrate St. David’s Day this March 1.
This is an opportunity to reaffirm the strong bonds that unite us and to reflect on the rich and varied contributions Welsh people have made to America over the centuries. Several of our founding fathers – including former Presidents Thomas Jefferson and John Adams – were able to claim Welsh ancestry. Today, almost two million people living in the U.S. can trace their roots back to Wales. I am proud to say that I am one of them.
But there is far more to our enduring relationship than our heritage. Today, we enjoy shared values, extensive cultural exchange, and benefit from a vibrant trade in goods, services and knowledge. As we continue to deepen these ties, our friendship will only grow stronger.
As you celebrate this special day with family, friends and loved ones, know that the United States is committed to strengthening our partnership as we work together to build a more peaceful and prosperous future for all our people.
As an American of Welsh descent, I love this. My great-grandfather came here as a little boy from the Isle of Anglesea. At the northern end of that island, there is a Hillary Point. 😉
Secretary Clinton, Happy St. David’s Day to you, too!

On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I congratulate the people of Wales as they celebrate St. David’s Day on March 1. This is an opportunity to honor the culture and history of the Welsh people and reaffirm our enduring bonds of friendship.
As an American of Welsh descent, I have always had a special place in my heart for Wales – both the beauty of its land and the determination of its people. Welsh-Americans have contributed to the culture and prosperity of the United States since our earliest days. American Presidents such as Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Calvin Coolidge traced their heritage to Wales, as did icons like Frank Lloyd-Wright and Bette Davis.
Today, the United States and Wales are united by our shared values, history, and aspirations for a brighter future for all our people. Our businesses trade together, our educators and scientists collaborate in classrooms and laboratories, and our people crisscross the Atlantic as friends and family. I know many Americans are looking forward to visiting Wales this October for the Ryder Cup competition in Newport.
So in honor of this St. David’s Day, let me offer our warmest wishes to the people of Wales.

@U.S. Senate: Time to ratify LOST!
"... ratify the Law of the Sea Convention, which has provided the international framework for exploring these new opportunities in the Arctic. We abide by the international law that undergirds the convention, but we think the United States should be a member, because the convention sets down the rules of the road that protect freedom of navigation, provide maritime security, serve the interests of every nation that relies on sea lanes for commerce and trade, and also sets the framework for exploration for the natural resources that may be present in the Arctic." -HRC, 06-03-12, Tromso Norway
