Hillary Clinton Says She Was Right All Along
The biggest factors she blames for her loss—disinformation, Vladimir Putin, and America’s deep political divide—will still be problems even if Trump loses, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee warns.Edward-Isaac Dovere Octob Only one Democrat other than Joe Biden has experience running for president against Donald Trump, and she’s not quite over 2016, or confident that Biden will be able to do what she couldn’t.
Hillary Clinton has been in lockdown like everyone else. It feels like Groundhog Day, she told me Wednesday afternoon. But existential exhaustion looks different for a woman who has spent the past four years thinking about the final month of the 2016 election—and who worries that Vladimir Putin, disinformation, and our deep political divides will still threaten American democracy even if Biden wins.
In many ways, Clinton feels vindicated by how the Trump presidency has played out, and by what Americans have learned about him over the past four years—including the recent revelation that he paid just $750 in federal income taxes in 2017. That “was even worse than I thought it was,” she said. But being right is a small solace. She was sitting in her home in New York, speaking with me over Zoom for a conversation you can hear in full on the latest episode of The Ticket. Chappaqua is not Washington, D.C. She’s not in the middle of the reelection campaign she’d like to be running right now. She pointed out more than once that she won the popular vote in 2016, even if she didn’t win the Electoral College, and she mentioned former FBI Director James Comey’s letter in the final week of the race seeming to reopen the investigation into her (and then Comey’s announcement that nothing had come of it). And to those who wish she would just go away? She thinks they feel a bit guilty, she told me: They don’t want to admit that she was right about Trump.
And she was right to marry Bill too! Forty five years ago today. 🌹🎊🕭💐🍾

The N.Y. Post story about a mysterious laptop, allegedly connected to Hunter Biden and containing incriminating emails on the hard drive, only serves to confirm what I have long suspected happened in 2016. I would bet anything that one or more Hillary haters in the N.Y. F.B.I. planted Hillary’s emails on Anthony Weiner’s laptop. Voila! October surprise! I’m guessing their only regret is not throwing in some incriminating forgeries. But they may have had concerns that there were enough honest agents left in the bureau to foil such a plot. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that “America’s Mayor” was instrumental in both plans. 🤔

The internal polling for elected Republicans here in Minnesota must be BRUTAL. Today the Republican controlled Senate easily passed the Governor’s bonding bill in the latest special legislative session after adamantly refusing to do so in special sessions during the summer. What’s changed? I’m guessing their electoral prospects next month. Unlike McConnell’s Senate, they read the room.

The sad refrain those of us who supported Hillary have to deal with everyday is that the media NEVER has never admitted that Hillary had warned them about trump but they did not listen, even ignored her warnings. They also refuse to acknowledge that there is no comparison between the 2016 election and 2020, and constantly report that Biden is doing better than Hillary because he has higher favorable ratings. They also conspicuously ignore the fact that they attacked Hillary every day without any evidence of wrongdoing and they carry Joe’s water. The media shamelessly excludes the influence of Comey, Russian interference, the bernie bros, the republicans, social media and the lies spewed daily about her while NOT doing their job by vetting the new kid in town, trump. The media failed the American people and they know it. I will never forget nor forgive them for what they did to her in 2016 and ultimately to the country.

Those CNN panels where someone says that BOTH 2016 candidates were historically unpopular while ignoring that Hillary’s so-called “unpopularity” was the result of a coordinated GOP-Russian smear campaign which Democrats never countered will be the end of me. When she left State in 2013 she was the most popular politician in the US. Kevin McCarthy even confessed their strategy. Media still ignores the facts. So much misogyny! So little time to acknowledge all of it!

This is precisely why women need to get serious about supporting women running for office and stop believing the age old misogynistic rhetoric spewed by the media’s double standard critique of those women running, while giving men a pass for far worse. Women cannot change the system if we don’t fight for equal representation at every level of government and put our support behind those women who are brave enough to get into the arena (and I’m NOT talking about those women who are merely the Handmaids of the men in office chosen as “tokens” and who will do as their told). We need more fighters like Katie Porter, AOC, Omar, Pressley and Tlaib who can’t and won’t be intimidated.
We’ve waited since the beginning of time for men to wake up and realize that women are not only human beings (not objects) but are their equals and that our unique perspective in how we should be governed and solve problems is desperately needed if we want to survive and overcome the mess the men have made all over the world because of their insatiable need to engage in “pissing contests” at every turn. Pissing contests which are destroying our planet.
We can’t wait, because we are running out of time.

Bakari Sellers actually did exactly what I described on CNN last night. Bakari Sellers, whose book HRC promoted in her twitter feed! This is how her so-called allies talk about her. Victoria Brownworth called him out on twitter and he replied that of course he meant bc of Benghazi!, etc. Brownworth pointed out he didn’t say that and we can’t shorthand misogyny. He said he loves Hillary. Well, as people often say about Bill, he needs to love her better. Btw, Bill is the one Democrat who never lets anyone trash her. Many in Brownworth’s replies pointed out that trashing Hillary is still a feature, not a bug, at CNN. It is, and I commend VAB for fighting back with her platform. Democrats would never adopt what Brownworth calls “GOP talking points” about President Obama, nor should they. We must make misogyny as socially impermissible as racism. Clearly, we have a very long way to go.
