In the picture below, you see our intrepid Secretary of State arriving in Baghdad on April 25, 2009. It was her Saturday Surprise. Well, even as she prepares to speak to the U.N. General Assembly tomorrow, according to MSNBC tonight – specifically the Rachel Maddow hour, the last combat brigade rolled, very quietly across the border from Iraq into Kuwait tonight, and the two-week transition has begun. That transition, specifically, is the handover of operations in Iraq from the Pentagon, the Department of Defense, to the State Department and its able leader, the pretty lady in this picture. She has a lot on those little shoulders, but as I said, she is intrepid. If anybody can handle this phase, she can. I honestly have to say, if there is any moment in history when I think this woman is the best possible person to be in charge of an operation, this is the moment, this is the place.

Is she laughing in the picture? A HilLOL in a combat zone – I love it.
This makes me so happy. Let’s hope things keep pushing slowly and surely in the direction of a free, safe, and more egalitarian Iraq.

Yup! She BOUNCED off that plane – a C 130 I think. Part of her glee was the surprise part. We woke up in the morning, and she was there! She was all “Hahahaha! None of you even GUESSED!”

Bounced, you say? I need video of a bouncing Hillary to believe it happened.
I think she likes to surprise the press sometimes.

I don’t have a video collection. 😦 But she bounced off the plane another time too – I think in Afghanistan. J.C. has it – I think in the most recent Team Hillary video that he made. I was happy to see it, since I had only seen it once on TV. Yep, she can bounce off the gangway! It is a sight to behold!

I need to locate this bouncy Hillary video.
Anyway, I was just thinking, this hand off means that she can now add Commander of military forces to her résumé. Now she’ll have amassed direct domestic policy, foreign policy, and military policy experience over the course of her political career independent of her husband’s. Not bad, Madame Secretary, not bad.

Pretty much. The troops that are left will be advisers and trainers, not combat troops, but evidently, as I heard said definitively last night, over and over, she will be in charge.
She already has military policy experience from the Armed Services Committee, this will be more practical than policy. Yup, she will be a bangin’ Commander in Chief!

So thrilled to see how and what Hillary is doing. It will not matter what it is. It will be done with excellence.
I hope someone is reading this that can make sure Hillary does not get caught in the Ground Zero Mosque debacle. I surely hope Hillary stays out of the disaster that the current POTUS has created with his self-inflicted wound on this subject. Nor that she will be seen with the Muslem author at the center of this controversy who, I understand, is being ushered around by the State Dept. I hope that duty will be given to someone other than Hillary or her chances to be POTUS will be greatly diminished, with the video played over and over in a potential campaign.

Hi Fran, and welcome. I think she has long had a plan for a way to finesse this. She’s brilliant! Thanks for your thoughtful comment!

I don’t think she is gonna speak on it, but if they complain too loud about the Iman beign sent around the country by the state, she should tell them there was no problem back in 2003 when he was doing it and Liz cheny needs to watch it she was working at the state department when that happened.

Once again, a woman will be cleaning up the mess the political males have left in their wake.
It’s highly unlikely any other Secretary of State–male or female–would be asked to now be given responsibility for Iraq after all that has gone before.
Maybe now State will get some of the money DOD has wasted through its years of incompetent oversight. Not.
Does anyone think Secretary Clinton will receive bouquets instead of brickbats no matter how successful she is?
If the Iraqis are smart, they’ll welcome her brilliance and get on with getting on.
The whole thing is suspect but I will try to rely on Secretary Clinton’s savvy.

She already has the budget. She and Gates worked a shift of funds from defense to development for that reason. I think I will play the optimist here. She is riding high in the polls. I think she WILL get bouquets! (Actually, it is unusual for her to land anywhere and not get flowers). The world knows who our girl is, and it seems the American voters are taking note. She will be impressive today at UNGA!
