A voice was stilled this morning, a voice that spoke up for disenfranchised voters, a voice that spoke her mind and the minds of others.
Harriet Christian was irrepressible, dedicated, driven. She stood up for her rights and those of the voiceless. Always ready for a good time, she loved and was rollicking fun. This photo is from her Facebook page thanks to Deborah Schutt, and she was, of course, speaking – the way we will always remember her.
All St. Peter has to do is to click on the Youtube above to learn who is at the gate and where she is from since she spells it all out very clearly. My guess is that she is hanging out at that gate having a cigarette, giving him an earful, and making him laugh.
Bye, Harriet. We will miss you! Thank you for all you did. (((HUGS)))
(You may leave memories and condolences for family and friends at her Facebook page.)
I was one of those disenfranchised Michigan voters in 08. Harriet was speaking for me and for many others like me.
Thank you, Harriet! God bless you!!!!

After the RBC I had the wind knocked out of my sails and there was this ranting woman who said exactly what I wanted to say and she was not going to back down. She won my heart. Many months later, after reading her posts on various political boards, I got to meet her in person and was again Wowed.
Lady Lynn set up an office for disgruntled Clinton supporters who would not vote for bo and felt the need at the time to vote for and campaign for McCain. We had our own “Another Democrat for McCain” signs and we wore our Hillary T-shirts and buttons when we knocked on doors or did visibilities at the malls, etc. Close to primary day it was close and we needed lots of boots on the ground in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area to carry NE PA. When Harriett heard the state of PA was up for grabs and that Lady Lynn’s erstwhile Hillary team needed help she rounded up NYC volunteers. We cheered wildly when Harriett and company pulled up in front of Lady Lynn’s office with a bus load of Hillary – now McCain supporters. They worked their hearts out canvassing all day with us and we all had “Hillary campaign” stories to share with each other. Back then I was still smoking (I have quit since) and so therefore got to spend quality ranting and smoking time with Harriett outside. She wouldn’t eat the food Lynn catered to the office everyday for us and demanded to know where there was a decent Diner in town. LOL. She WAS a character, for sure.
Thank you Harriet, you done good. RIP.

oh and, just remembered – she didn’t travel on the bus although she organized the whole bus trip. She came in a private vehicle so she could smoke the whole way from NYC to NEPA. No smoking permitted on the bus so she had her own chauffer. She was a waitress and was picky about what she ate. Everybody else thought the catered food was delicious, she was a riot.
She was a hurricane. You just had to watch her jump and go and grab life to know she was different. I don’t use facebook. Thanks for putting this here, Still. She meant so much to me, and to so many other PUMAs who were struggling to understand what the hell was going on with our ex-party.
When McCain had a country singer at his rallies who was singing songs that mocked Hillary we let them know it was NOT cool with us. If they wanted us to deal with the Red party then they had to knock off the Hillary bashing around us and the Lady Lynn special office was a God send. We had a hard time fitting in with the mainstream Reps and when we went to their standard campaign offices – you could just tell we were, um, different and leaning to the left dems.

Another funny Harriet story comes to mind. Not sure if the video is still on the web but it was a riot. She went out on the tarmac and McCain himself and Lieberman jumped out of their limos to greet her! She gave them our demands, as Hillary supporters who were considering supporting him and he met with a group of PUMA reps a few times. Some of the Riverdaughter account isn’t accurate here, but it is very close to those hazy, crazy, and furious with our party unity days. We were definitely PUMA wild and steaming out of our ears.
Oh, she made it all MUCH better. And she didn’t roll over for McCain, Lady Lynn or anybody – they jumped to please HER.

Feel so fortunate to have met Harriet and had the opportunity to briefly stand beside her in our collective fight for justice!
If anyone here is aware of where the services will be held, and wouldn’t mind sharing that information, if ok with family, I would love to send flowers.

Karen, thanks so much for sharing your experiences with Harriet , and with the valiant efforts in campaigning for Hillary. Even though the outcome was outrageous and unjust – so many of the experiences, the people, and the memories made during that time were wonderful.
You’re so right about the frustration, anger and heart-break we PUMAs experienced as we watched Democratic Party, to which we had been loyal for many years, treat Hillary so unjustly, and throw women’s rights to gender equality under Obama’s big, ugly bus.
I recall watching Harriet on the news, giving them hell after that RBC meeting. It felt so good to hear her speak the truth about what was happening. The media were certainly not reporting on the many travesties of that election. Harriet told it like it was. She was the real deal..

I remember when Harriet was on Fox News and they tried to interrupt her, she just talked louder. She would NOT let them throw her off track! She was brilliant!
